The Diocese of Worcester forms part of the Church of England (Anglican) Province of Canterbury in England. The diocese was founded around 679 by St Theodore of Canterbury at Worcester to minister to the kingdom of the Hwicce, one of the many Anglo Saxon petty-kingdoms of that time. The original borders of the diocese are believed to be based on those of that ancient kingdom.Covering an area of 671 square miles (1,740 km2) it currently has parishes in: the County of Worcestershire the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley northern Gloucestershire urban villages along the edge of the south-east of the Metropolitan Borough of Wolverhampton the Metropolitan Borough of SandwellCurrently the diocese has 190 parishes with 281 churches and 163 stipendiary clergy. The diocese is divided into two archdeaconries: the Archdeaconry of Worcester the Archdeaconry of DudleyOn its creation the diocese included what is now southern and western Warwickshire (an area known as Felden). On 24 January 1837 the north and east of Warwickshire (Arden) which formed the Archdeaconry of Coventry in the then Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry was transferred to the Diocese of Worcester. In 1905 an area in northern Warwickshire was split off as the Diocese of Birmingham and in 1918 an area approximate to the rest of Warwickshire was made the Diocese of Coventry. From 1993 until 2002, the diocese operated an episcopal area scheme.

The Worcester Blackfriars was a monastery in England, belonging to the Dominican Order. It was founded in 1347 by William Beauchamp, Lord of Elmley. The monastery contained a school of divinity. In 1431, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Thomas Northfield, a Friar Preacher at Worcester, and for the seizure of his magical books.It continued its association with the Beauchamps through the 1400s, Sir John Beauchamp, K.G., baron of Powick was buried there in 1475, and his wife Margaret in 1487.The friary was dissolved in 1538.The site of the monastery in Worcester became a shopping centre in the 1960s, called Blackfriars. It was demolished and replaced by the Crowngate which opened in 1992.Excavations took place in 1985-6, which uncovered the cloisters and friary church. These were aligned with the Roman Road. The small finds were repackaged by volunteers in 2010.

Crowngate Worcester is a shopping centre in Worcester, England, built in part on the historic site of the Worcester Blackfriars monastery, and replacing the former Blackfriars shopping centre.It contains forty-nine stores, with a range of both large and smaller units, including House of Fraser and Primark. There are three restaurants in the recently refurbished Friary Walk; Wildwood Kitchen, Bills restaurant and Anatolian Greek Palace. Other facilities include a 780 space, multi-story car park, Worcester's bus station and the Huntingdon Hall Theatre. In October 2009 the centre underwent a £5 million refurbishment. In 2017, plans for a new look for Crowngate were published., which were completed in 2019, and gave the existing building a brand new frontage.

Huntingdon Hall is a Grade II* listed theatre and concert venue located in Worcester, England. It was built in 1804 as the Countess of Huntingdon's Church. In his book Worcestershire, Nikolaus Pevsner describes Huntingdon Hall as "an odd plan... a three-bay chapel with a hipped roof and behind it, transversely, a large oblong part apsed at both ends."

University of Birmingham Boat Club is a rowing club on the River Severn, based at The Towpath, New Road, Worcester, Worcestershire. A second boathouse is also used for the development squad which is shared with Birmingham Rowing Club.

The Worcester Guildhall is a municipal building in the High Street, Worcester, England. It is a Grade I listed building.

Worcester Foregate Street railway station, opened by the Great Western Railway in 1860 in the centre of Worcester, England, is the smaller of the two stations serving the city, but more centrally located. The other station, Worcester Shrub Hill, is to the east. A third station, Worcestershire Parkway, is located just outside the city to the south-east. The station layout is unusual in that travelling east the two platforms serve different routes, rather than different directions. Platform 1 can only be accessed by trains via Worcester Shrub Hill (including trains to and from London Paddington and via Cheltenham Spa towards the southwest), while Platform 2 can only be accessed from the east by trains running directly to and from Droitwich Spa, avoiding Shrub Hill. Similar examples of this type of layout can be found at Glenrothes with Thornton in Fife and Bare Lane in Lancashire. This means that Great Western Railway services can only stop at Platform 1, as all of these trains stop at Shrub Hill. There is a cafe called Cafe Loco at the end of Platform 1 in the old signal box. The station itself is built on a viaduct, meaning that space for expansion is restricted, but the platforms are nevertheless of ample length to accommodate an HST. Despite its small size, the remains of two signal boxes can be seen, one spanning the tracks and the second now the station cafe.

St Swithun's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the city of Worcester, Worcestershire, England (grid reference SO850549). It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church is considered to be "one of the best preserved examples of an early Georgian church in England". Clifton-Taylor includes the church in his list of 'best' English parish churches.

The Battle of Worcester in 1651 was the final one in the English Civil War, where Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army defeated King Charles II's Royalists.
