Rockford Township is located in Winnebago County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 178,527 and it contained 78,714 housing units. It is the largest township, in terms of area, in Illinois. The city of Rockford, along with the villages of Cherry Valley and New Milford are all located in Rockford Township.

The Seventh Street Commercial Historic District is a national historic district which encompasses several blocks of Seventh Street in Rockford, Illinois. The district was the commercial center of Rockford's substantial Swedish American community. Swedish settlement in Rockford began in 1852, and Swedes accounted for a third of the city's population by the 1890s; while the first Swedish American community formed around a railroad station on Kishwaukee Street, it shifted to Seventh Street in the late 1860s and 1870s. Seventh Street was home to the community's retail stores, community buildings, and two of its three banks. Forest City Furniture, the first major firm in Rockford's furniture industry, was also based there, as were many of its competitors. The buildings in the district exhibit many popular architectural styles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Italianate, Romanesque Revival, and Commercial.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 23, 2005.

The Rockford Park District was formed in 1909 and is governed by an elected five-member board of commissioners who serve six-year terms without compensation. It is the third largest municipal park system in Illinois, serving the communities of Rockford, Illinois, including Loves Park, Cherry Valley, New Milford, and adjacent unincorporated areas of Boone County and Winnebago County. The District serves a population of 208,132 with 84,083 households residing within the Park District boundaries. The Rockford Park District has twice been awarded the prestigious National Gold Medal for excellence in parks and recreation management, and is a Distinguished Agency, professionally accredited for high standards and superior services.

On the Waterfront was an annual music festival featuring rock, country music, alternative rock, hip hop, punk rock bands, local bands, food vendors and craft booths. On the Waterfront ran on Labor Day weekend, in downtown Rockford, Illinois.

SwedishAmerican Hospital is a 357-bed non profit, teaching hospital located in Rockford, Illinois. The hospital is a division of UW Health. The hospital was founded in 1911, opening its doors in 1918 following a period of fund raising. In the mid-1990s the hospital proposed a major campus overhaul that was eventually approved by the city of Rockford, providing SwedishAmerican assistance in recovering a blighted neighborhood nearby. The hospital employees more than 350 physicians and includes an emergency department that is a level II trauma center.

The Lake–Peterson House, also known as Jenny's, is a Victorian Gothic Revival home in Rockford, Illinois, United States. The house was built in 1873, probably by prominent Rockford citizen John Lake - its first owner, but its architect is unknown. The house is a significant example of Gothic Revival architecture and is considered one of the finest such homes in the U.S. state of Illinois. The Lake–Peterson House is owned and maintained by Swedish American Hospital in Rockford and stands adjacent to the main hospital complex along Business US 20 (East State Street). The building and its carriage house were added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Faust Landmark, formerly known as the Faust Hotel (or Hotel Faust) and Tebala Towers, is located on East State Street, is one of the largest buildings in downtown Rockford, Illinois, United States. It currently serves persons 55 years and older. Built in 1929 as a hotel, it was sold to the Shriners who renamed it Tebala Towers. It was renamed to its current name when sold by the Shriners and was renovated into one and two bedroom efficiency apartments.

The Beyer Stadium, one mile from downtown in Rockford, Illinois, was the home of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League's Rockford Peaches from 1943 to 1954. It was a multi-purpose facility, as contemporary newspaper articles also report high school baseball and football games being played there. Its address in city directories was typically given as 311 15th Avenue. It began as Kishwaukee Park or simply Rockford Base Ball Park in about 1913 when the Rockford club of the Wisconsin-Illinois League moved into it from their previous home, Riverside Park. That club folded after the 1923 season and sold the ballpark to Rockford High School for use as their athletic field. By 1925 the venue was being called Rockford Municipal Stadium or 15th Avenue Stadium. In 1948 it was renamed in honor of Charles Beyer, long-time high school athletics coach.There was a "practice field" adjacent to the main stadium, to the east. When the Rockford Rox minor league club was established in 1947, the Rockford school board gave them permission to configure the field for baseball, fitting it with lights and seating. To distinguish the field from the Peaches' diamond, it was called 15th Avenue Park or Rox Park. The clubs worked out their schedules so they would not both be playing at the same time, thus avoiding potential logistical problems. The Rox struggled financially, and in early August 1949 they became strictly a road team as they finished out their final season. The site of Rox Field is now occupied by the Beyer Early Child Center and parking lots. Following the closure of the AAGPBL and hence the Rockford Peaches, the stadium continued to be used for local sports, but was eventually abandoned and fell into disrepair. The stands were torn down in the early 1990s. The film A League of Their Own raised renewed interest in the women's league, and revival of the ballpark was discussed. In 2004 the Rockford Park District finally approved a proposal to revamp Beyer Park. Proposed improvements include a new baseball diamond, new lighting, and a track. A re-dedication of Beyer Stadium occurred on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 1:00 pm. The history of Beyer Stadium was celebrated as Rockford's "field of dreams" for over 70 years, and members of the Rockford Peaches women's baseball team were honored, along with other women who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. To commemorate this event, the Friends of Beyer Stadium and other donors have re-created the original score board, created a vintage backstop, and installed a flag pole that features the Rockford Peaches flag. The revamped ballpark is bounded by 15th Avenue (north, left field); Seminary Street (west, third base); Beyer Early Childhood Center (east, right field); and various buildings to the south. The Witwer House is a historic house at 504 North 1st Street in Rockford, Illinois. The house was built in 1876 for Rockford alderman and merchant Benjamin Witwer and his wife. Builder O. H. Wheat designed the house in the Italianate style, which was popular nationally in the 1870s. The two-story brick house features a three-sided bay window in the center of the front facade, a recessed front porch, tall arched windows and doors, and a cross-gabled roof with Gothic-inspired decorative woodwork under the gables. The property also includes a brick carriage house built in 1879 with a similar design to the house.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 26, 2021.
