The China–Hong Kong football rivalry is a sports rivalry between the national association football teams of the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong. The rivalry has been exacerbated by Hong Kong's status as a Special Administrative Region of China, with major political and ideological differences than on the mainland, a legacy of having been under British colonial rule until the transfer of sovereignty in 1997.

Hong Kong (; Chinese: 香港, Cantonese: [hœ́ːŋ.kɔ̌ːŋ] (listen)), officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (HKSAR), is a city and special administrative region of China on the eastern Pearl River Delta in South China. With over 7.5 million residents of various nationalities in a 1,104-square-kilometre (426 sq mi) territory, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places in the world. Hong Kong is also one of the three global financial centres and one of the most developed cities in the world. Hong Kong was established as a colony of the British Empire after the Qing Empire ceded Hong Kong Island from Xin'an County at the end of the First Opium War in 1841 then again in 1842. The colony expanded to the Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 after the Second Opium War and was further extended when Britain obtained a 99-year lease of the New Territories in 1898. British Hong Kong was occupied by Imperial Japan from 1941 to 1945 during World War II; British administration resumed after the surrender of Japan. The whole territory was transferred to China in 1997. As one of China's two special administrative regions (the other being Macau), Hong Kong maintains separate governing and economic systems from that of mainland China under the principle of "one country, two systems".Originally a sparsely populated area of farming and fishing villages, the territory has become one of the world's most significant financial centres and commercial ports. It is the world's tenth-largest exporter and ninth-largest importer. Hong Kong has a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade, and its currency, the Hong Kong dollar, is the eighth most traded currency in the world. Hong Kong is home to the third-highest number of billionaires of any city in the world, the second-highest number of billionaires of any city in Asia, and the largest concentration of ultra high-net-worth individuals of any city in the world. Although the city has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, severe income inequality exists among the population.Hong Kong is a highly developed territory and ranks fourth on the UN Human Development Index. The city has the largest number of skyscrapers of any city in the world, and its residents have some of the highest life expectancies in the world. The dense space has led to a highly developed transportation network with public transport rates exceeding 90%. Hong Kong is ranked 3rd in the Global Financial Centres Index.

North Point Ferry Pier (Chinese: 北角碼頭) is a ferry pier in North Point, Hong Kong and it is near the site of the former North Point Estate (Chinese: 北角邨). It started operation in 1963. In 1979, a second passenger berth opened that is located west of the older one.Until 14 May 2016, the large open-air North Point Ferry Pier Bus Terminus was situated immediately inland of the pier, but that has now been relocated one block east, as 'North Point Ferry Pier Public Transport Interchange' under a new building, and a new building is being erected on the old bus station site.

The Island Eastern Corridor (IEC) is an expressway built along the northeastern shore of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. It starts from Causeway Bay in the west and ends in Chai Wan in the east. It is mostly part of Route 4. The section between Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay consists mainly of viaducts built along Victoria Harbour.

North Point Estate (Chinese: 北角邨) was a public housing estate at the harbour front of North Point, Hong Kong near North Point Ferry Pier and its bus terminus, approaching Victoria Harbour. It was the largest public housing estate in the Eastern District. It was the second public housing estate built by the Hong Kong Housing Authority and enjoyed a reputation as one of the most impressive construction schemes in Asia and as a public housing estate in one of the most "luxurious" areas on Hong Kong Island.

The Harbourfront Landmark (Chinese: 海名軒; Cantonese Yale: Hói mìhng hīn) is a 70-floor 233 meters tall luxury residential skyscraper completed in 2001 located in Hung Hom Bay in the Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong. This prime waterfront residence has glass curtain walls and sweeping views of the Victoria Harbour, it consists 324 residential units with penthouse apartments on the top floors.

Tong Shui Road (Chinese: 糖水道) is a road on reclaimed land in North Point on Hong Kong Island. The road runs from Victoria Harbour at its northern end to a T-junction with King's Road in the south. An exit slip road from the Island Eastern Corridor merges into and is named for Tong Shui Road. The North Point terminus of Hong Kong Tramways lies in the road, at the end of the adjoining Chun Yeung Street, home to North Point Market. Tong Shui Road Public Pier extends from the road's northern end, near Hotel Vic, on the site of the former North Point Estate.

Java Road (Chinese: 渣華道) is a street in North Point on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It runs from the junction of Electric Road and Tin Chong Street] in Fortress Hill to meet King's Road in Quarry Bay, near Hong Kong Funeral Home.

North Point Camp was a Japanese World War II Prisoner-of-war camp in North Point, Hong Kong which primarily held Canadian and Royal Naval prisoners.

Sunbeam Theatre (Chinese: 新光戲院) is a landmark theatre in Hong Kong showcasing Cantonese opera. It is located at 423 King's Road, North Point, near the intersection with Shu Kuk Street.

Whampoa Garden (Chinese: 黃埔花園; Jyutping: wong4 bou3 faa1 jyun4) is the largest private housing estate in Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It was built on the site of the former Whampoa Dockyards by Hutchison Whampoa Property. The urban design of the estate incorporates concepts inspired by the Garden city movement and was completed in 1991.

Kiu Kwan Mansion (Chinese: 僑冠大廈) is a 27-storey, 95 m (312 ft) residential skyscraper at 395 King's Road, North Point in Hong Kong. When it topped out on 5 July 1966, it was the tallest building in Greater China, surpassing Park Hotel Shanghai, which held the title for 32 years. Since 1963, the Wah Fung Chinese Goods Centre, an eclectic emporium of Chinese-made goods, with a Fujian flair, has occupied the Ground, First and Second floors of the building - one of two Hong Kong branches and the city's largest department store when it opened.Kiu Kwan Mansion was refurbished in 1996 and 2007.
