Midge Hall

Midge Hall railway station was located in Midge Hall, Leyland, closing to passengers in 1961, although the line still exists as the Ormskirk Branch Line.

Moss Side is a suburban, semi-rural community on the western side of Leyland, Lancashire, in the borough of South Ribble, England. The suburb is growing. It is adjacent to Bretherton, Ulnes Walton and Midge Hall. There is a Scouts group in the area and a concert party who perform for senior citizens. There are bowling and running groups in the community as well. There were plans to build a new Redrow apartment development, but local residents fought a determined campaign to oppose this and planning permission was ultimately refused in December 2005. A new ball court and a children's playground were completed in 2005 and a better community is coming together overall. Moss Side has seen an increase in community involvement in recent years. This has delivered benefits such as the Moss Side Community Newsletter, a Moss Side football team and the new 'Your Moss Side' website.

Whitestake is a small village in the South Ribble district of Lancashire, England. It is situated between Farington and New Longton, and is at the boundary of the parishes of Farington, Longton and Penwortham. It falls in what is called the "Western Parishes" area of South Ribble. The name Whitestake supposedly originated because residents could stake a claim with a white stick so that their livestock could graze on the moss. This is said to have taken place once a year at the Farmers Arms Public House (still extant). It is the site of the Turbary Woods Owl and Bird Sanctuary.

Worden Academy is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in Leyland, in the South Ribble district of Lancashire, England. It opened in 1955 as Worden County Secondary School, and became Worden High School in 1972 with the introduction of the Comprehensive System to Lancashire and the abolition of the 11-plus examination. The school was renamed Worden Sports College when it became a specialist Sports College. The school converted to academy status in February 2013 and was renamed Worden Academy.

Cocker Bar railway station was located in what is still open country where Cocker Bar Road (B5248) crosses what is now the Ormskirk Branch Line.The station was closed when Midge Hall station opened 47 chains (0.95 km) further north in 1859, shortly after the line was taken over by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.

New Longton is a village located 4 miles (6 km) south west of Preston, in the district of South Ribble, in the county of Lancashire, North West England. It is in the parish of Longton, which is the name of the older village located 2 miles (3 km) to the west of New Longton.

Farington Moss is a village approximately two miles to the north of Leyland, Lancashire, England. It is a typical English village with one school and one church (St Pauls). To the northeast of the village runs the main west coast railway line. Farington Moss includes School Lane, although the postal address is Lostock Hall. Proof of this fact can be found on the Council Tax Bill of 2010 which clearly states School Lane (F). Sources within South Ribble Borough Council have revealed that the (F) represents (Farington) as opposed to School Lane (B), which stands for Bamber Bridge, and School Lane (L), School Lane, Leyland. Farington Moss is also home to RAWS, the Residents Against Waste Site, which was formed by Judith England in 2007 as a protest group by the residents of Farington Moss. The Waste Site has now been built on land sold by Leyland Trucks (Leyland). In February 2016, councilors on County Hall's executive scrutiny committee voted to mothball the plant, which cost £125m to build, and instead send the green and food waste they processed to landfill. The 160 workers at the plant were told of the plans to cut costs by the cash-strapped Preston Borough county council and a proposal was put forward to change the way waste was dealt with in the county. It is estimated that £125m was invested in the site run by Australian firm Global Renewables.

New Longton and Hutton station was a railway station on the West Lancashire Railway in England. It was over a mile from each of the villages of Hutton and Howick Cross.It was opened on 1 June 1889 as Howick just west of a level crossing at the junction of two streets which have been known as Chapel Lane and Station Road. It had two platforms. After the takeover of the West Lancashire Railway by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway on 1 July 1897 it was renamed Hutton and Howick on 1 December 1897. The station received a new signal box in 1901.The coming of the railway attracted a settlement around the station which grew into the village of New Longton. The rapid growth of this village was the reason why the station was renamed New Longton and Hutton by the London and Midland Railway on 5 October 1934. Following the Beeching report, the station was closed to goods on 6 April 1964 and to passengers on 7 September 1964, together with the whole line. Around 1966 the tracks were lifted, and the buildings were pulled down soon after the station had been closed.

HM Prison Wymott is a Category C men's prison near Leyland, Lancashire, England. Wymott is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service, and is next to HMP Garth. The prison has facilities for housing sex offenders, in addition to inmates sentenced for mainstream offences.

St Mary's Catholic High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Leyland in the English county of Lancashire.It is a voluntary aided school administered by Lancashire County Council and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool. Pupils are mostly admitted from St Anne's Catholic Primary School and St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Leyland, St Catherine's Catholic Primary School in Farington, St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Euxton and SS Peter and Pauls’ Catholic Primary School in Mawdesley.The school was established in 1957. In 1996, the school was awarded specialist status as a Technology College. On 1 September 2013, the school suffered a devastating fire that destroyed most of the school buildings and caused £15,000,000 damage. Pupils had to travel everyday to a closed school in Ribbleton until Christmas. In September 2015, the new school building was opened to pupils.St Mary's offers GCSEs, BTECs and Cambridge Nationals as programmes of study for pupils.

HM Prison Garth is a Category B men's prison, located in the village of Ulnes Walton (near Leyland), in Lancashire, England. Garth is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service, and is situated next to HMP Wymott.

All Hallows Catholic High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Penwortham in the English county of Lancashire.Established in 1975, it is a Roman Catholic voluntary aided school administered by Lancashire County Council and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool. The school went through an extensive rebuilding programme in 2007.All Hallows Catholic High School offers GCSEs, BTECs, Cambridge Nationals and ASDAN awards as programmes of study for pupils.
