Weedon Island, Florida

The Weedon Island Preserve is a 3,190-acre natural area situated along the western shore of Tampa Bay and located at 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. It is predominately an estuarine preserve composed of upland and aquatic ecosystems such as mangrove forests, pine/scrubby flatwoods, and maritime hammocks, and is home to a variety of native wildlife. The preserve is also a designated archaeological area, with several shell mounds identified on the property that provide evidence of early peoples who inhabited the land for thousands of years. On June 13, 1972, Weedon Island Preserve was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. In 1974, the state of Florida purchased Weedon Island and its surrounding islands, which were officially opened for public use in December 1980. In 1993, the state created a lease agreement with Pinellas County to manage and maintain the preserve. The county's Department of Parks and Conservation Resources presently manages the area. Weedon Island Preserve's name is derived from Tampa doctor and amateur archaeologist Leslie Washington Weedon.

Canterbury School of Florida is a private, co-ed, college preparatory school on two campuses in Saint Petersburg, Florida serving three-year-olds through Grade 12. Founded in 1968, Canterbury School of Florida serves Pinellas County, Florida.

WBTP (95.7 FM) is an urban contemporary radio station that serves the Tampa Bay area that plays hip-hop, R&B, and soul music that aims towards the African American community. It is owned and operated by iHeartMedia. Its target audience is African Americans between the ages of 18–34, but its main competitor is WLLD, which has a very similar target audience as well. It was the home of former Russ Parr Morning Show co-host, Olivia Fox, who was host of the station's morning drive show from 2004 to mid-2006. Licensed to Clearwater, the station's studios are located in South Tampa and the transmitter site is in Gandy.

Derby Lane Greyhound Track is a racino located in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. Originally named the St. Petersburg Kennel Club, it was the oldest continuously operating greyhound track in the country until its closure on December 27, 2020. However, it remains open for simulcasting and has a poker room. T.L. Weaver, a lumber entrepreneur, sold the tract of land Derby Lane is sited on to a group of local businessmen, who constructed the track and held its grand inaugural race on January 3, 1925. Shortly thereafter, however, the investors ran into financial hardship and were no longer able to make payments on the land. Possession of the track reverted to Weaver's lumber company, and Weaver decided to keep it and operate it himself. Derby Lane was still owned by the Weaver family as of November 2012.

Gandy is an unincorporated community and former census-designated place (CDP) in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,031 at the 2000 census. It is named after George Gandy and the Gandy Bridge which connects the area to Tampa across Old Tampa Bay.

WDAE (620 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to St. Petersburg, Florida and serving the Tampa Bay area. It is owned by iHeartMedia and airs a sports radio format. WDAE is one of the oldest radio stations in Florida still broadcasting today, going on the air in 1922. The studios and offices are on West Gandy Boulevard in South Tampa. The transmitter site is located near the Gandy Bridge in St. Petersburg.WDAE is licensed to broadcast with 5,600 watts by day and 5,500 watts at night. AM 620 is a regional broadcast frequency; because AM 620 is subject to interference from high-powered Cuban stations, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has given WDAE special temporary authority (STA) for higher power: 11,280 watts daytime and 11,000 watts nighttime. It uses a directional antenna at night. WDAE broadcasts using the iBiquity HD radio system during daytime hours. Programming is also heard on FM translator W237CW at 95.3 MHz and on the HD3 digital subchannel of co-owned WBTP (95.7 FM).

Shorecrest Preparatory School is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian, coeducational, college preparatory day school for students age 3 through Grade 12, located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Founded in 1923, it is the oldest independent day school in the state of Florida. A PK-12 institution, it serves St. Petersburg as well as the greater Tampa Bay area. The campus is on 28 acres located in St. Petersburg. Shorecrest hosts the school's various sport teams known as the Chargers. 100% of Shorecrest seniors are accepted to college.The school is a part of the Hybrid Learning Consortium. An online program offering a variety of courses to students around the world. Shorecrest was also recognized by Apple as an Apple Distinguished School for 2016–2024, for the integration of technology throughout the curriculum. Grades 2-12 have a 1:1 Device program. Shorecrest was ranked by Niche as #1 in Best Private High Schools in Pinellas County, Best College Prep Private High Schools in Pinellas County and Best Private High Schools in Pinellas County.

Gateway, also called the "Gateway area", or "Gateway District", is a 30-square-mile (78 km2) major business district of Pinellas County, Florida. As it is a major employment center located in an area of suburban density, it is considered an edge city. As of 2019, an increase in construction of residential complexes indicate that Gateway is turning into a mixed business and residential area.

Snell Isle is a neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States that centers on Snell Isle Boulevard. The street is named after local developer C. Perry Snell (1869–1942), a Kentucky druggist who moved to St. Petersburg in 1900 and began buying properties he developed into upscale residential neighborhoods, commercial buildings, and public parks. He was the driving force behind the creation and emergence of the Snell Isle neighborhood in the 1920s. According to an article in Tampa Bay Magazine, When the development, originally a muddy mangrove island, officially opened in October 1925, only 39 of its 275 acres were above the high tide line. Even so, Snell quickly sold over seven million dollars' worth of lots there. In 1926, Snell also opened on Snell Isle what is now called the Renaissance Vinoy Golf Club and Resort, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A memorial is dedicated to him in Snell Isle Park.Snell Isle is also home to St. Petersburg Woman's Club. C. Perry Snell built the Women's Club on Coffee Pot Bayou to give a location to what he considered the city's strongest and most important organization.

Gandy Bridge is the southernmost bridge spanning Old Tampa Bay from St. Petersburg, Florida to Tampa, Florida. The original 1924 span was dismantled in 1975. The second bridge, constructed in 1956 was used for vehicular traffic until 1997, when it was converted to recreational use by non-motorized traffic. It became known as the Friendship Trail Bridge and was demolished in 2016, after closing in 2008 due to hazardous conditions and several failed efforts to preserve the span. The third (1975) and fourth (1997) spans of the Gandy Bridge are currently being used for vehicle traffic. Almost three miles long, the Gandy Bridge is one of three bridges connecting the mainland of Hillsborough County and Pinellas County; the others being the Howard Frankland Bridge and the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
