Belmont-Broye

Domdidier (French: [dɔ̃didje]; Arpitan: Domdediér, locally Dondedi [dɔ̃dəˈdi] ) is a former municipality in the district of Broye, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. On 1 January 2016, the former municipalities of Domdidier, Dompierre, Léchelles and Russy merged to form Belmont-Broye.

Domdidier railway station (French: Gare de Domdidier) is a railway station in the village of Domdidier, within the municipality of Belmont-Broye, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Palézieux–Lyss line of Swiss Federal Railways.

The 2003 IAAF World Cross Country Championships took place on March 29/30, 2003. The races were held at the L'Institut Équestre National in Avenches near Lausanne, Switzerland. Russy (French pronunciation: [ʁysi] ; Arpitan: Russi or Russél, pronounced [ʁyˈʃi] ) is a former municipality in the district of Broye in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. On 1 January 2016, the former municipalities of Domdidier, Dompierre, Léchelles and Russy merged to form Belmont-Broye.

Oleyres is a former municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud in the district of Broye-Vully. On 1 July 2011 it was merged into the municipality of Avenches.

Avenches District is a former district of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. The seat of the district was the town of Avenches. On 1 September 1994 the former municipality of Chandon merged into the municipality of Léchelles, keeping the name Léchelles. On 1 January 2016, the former municipalities of Domdidier, Dompierre, Léchelles and Russy merged to form Belmont-Broye.

Dompierre railway station (French: Gare de Dompierre) is a railway station in the village of Dompierre, within the municipality of Belmont-Broye, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Palézieux–Lyss line of Swiss Federal Railways.

Aventicum was the largest town and capital of Roman Switzerland (Helvetia or Civitas Helvetiorum). Its remains are beside the modern town of Avenches. The city was probably created ex nihilo in the early 1st century AD, as the capital of the recently conquered territory of the Helvetii, across the road that connected Italy to Britain, built under Claudius. Under the rule of Emperor Vespasian, who grew up there, Aventicum was raised to the status of a colonia in 72 AD, whereupon it entered its golden age. The town wall was 5.6 km (3.5 mi) long but was impracticable for defensive purposes and was doubtless intended as a display of the status of the city. In the Christian era Aventicum was the seat of a bishopric. The most famous of its bishops was Marius Aventicensis. His terse chronicle, spanning the years 455 to 581, is one of the few sources for the 6th-century Burgundians. Shortly after the Council of Macon, in 585, Marius moved the seat from Aventicum, due to the rapid decline of the city, to Lausanne.
