Blockland, Bremen

The Stadtwaldsee (City Forest Lake) is an excavation lake in Bremen, Germany. It is commonly known as the Unisee (University Lake) due to its proximity to Bremen University. At an elevation of 1 m (3 ft 3 in), its surface area is 28.2 ha (70 acres).

Bremen-Walle is a railway station in Bremen, Germany on the Bremen–Bremerhaven line. It is situated in the Walle district northwest of the city centre and the central station. The station only offers local services; it is a regular stop for the Verden to Bremen-Vegesack trains, with additional peak time services to and from Bremerhaven.

Kuhgrabensee is a lake entirely in the southeast of the Bremen district of Blockland . The lake has a surface area of approximately 17.8 hectares and a maximum depth of 16 meters with an average depth of 13 meters. The Kuhgrabensee was excavated from 1970 to 1972 during the construction of the A27. Since July 1987 within his bank area is a 29.6-acre nature reserve . In 1998 to 1999 it was extended in the context of environmental compensation measure an approximately 4 acre flat water surface. The lake is groundwater-fed and has the influence of the salt dome Lilienthaler a high salt content. From the water quality of her Kuhgrabensee is mesotrophic . The lake is entered in the EU as a European bird sanctuary. The lake offers habitat to many pioneer plants, dragonflies and amphibians. The Kuhgrabensee is the breeding ground of many birds, such as the great crested grebe.

Bremen-Walle Telecommunication Tower (official designation of Bremen TV tower), which is not accessible for the public, is, like the telecommunication tower at Münster and the Friedrich-Clemens-Gerke Tower in Cuxhaven, a reproduction of the telecommunication tower Kiel. It is 235.70 meters high. The diameter of the operating pulpit, which is 108.20 meters above ground, is 40 meters. The telecommunication tower is located in the Bremen quarter Walle at the Utbremer road, about 2.5 kilometers northwest from the city center (market place with city hall, pc. Petri cathedral, Roland and the city musicians of Bremen). All FM-radio and TV programs of radio Bremen in Bremen are transmitted today from this tower. A 70 cm amateur radio relay, DB0OZ, with an expenditure frequency of 438.825 MHz, is also on the tower. In 2000, installing a restaurant in the operating pulpit was considered, but these plans were once again rejected.

Missler concentration camp, also known as KZ Mißler in German, was an early concentration camp operating in Nazi Germany. The concentration camp was set up at the end of March 1933. Under orders of SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Löblich, 148 prisoners, of which most were persecuted communists, were to be held in "protective custody". Later on the occupancy of the camp was raised to 300. The camp was located in a residential area in Bremen, which made it nearly impossible to shut out spectators, thus the police senator decided to dissolve the camp in July 1933. It wasn't until September 1933 that all the prisoners had been transferred to another camp. The Missler concentration camp was destroyed during World War II and all that's left of it are two plaques which remind of the concentration camp.

The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology is located in Bremen, Germany. It was founded in 1992, almost a year after the foundation of its sister institute, the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology at Marburg. In 1996, the institute moved into new buildings at the campus of the University of Bremen. It is one of 80 institutes in the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft). The Leibniz-Zentrum für Marine Tropenforschung (ZMT) (Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research) in Bremen, Germany is the only scientific institute in Germany that exclusively investigates tropical and subtropical coastal ecosystems and their significance for nature and humans in an interdisciplinary approach. The mission of ZMT is to provide a scientific basis for the protection and sustainable use of tropical coastal ecosystems by conducting research, capacity development and consulting activities in close cooperation with national and international partners in the tropics. Since its launch in 1991, ZMT has also developed a huge network of research and political partners within the tropics and worldwide, including more than 800 alumni. The institute offers a broad range of research infrastructure, including its own scientific diving centre and laboratories such as the Marine Experimental Ecology Facility (MAREE). ZMT also hosts the Future Earth Coasts (FEC) office, a global network of experts investigating the drivers of global change in coastal zones. The centre was founded as research institute affiliated with the University of Bremen in 1991. Since 2009 ZMT is an independent research institute and member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community. ZMT is also a member of the Deutsche Allianz für Meeresforschung (German Alliance for Marine Research).

The Universum Bremen is a science museum in Bremen, Germany. Visitors are encouraged to interact with most of the approximately 250 exhibits. It receives on average 450,000 visitors annually.

Die Küste (English: The Coast) was the former entertainment district at the Port of Bremen in Bremen, Germany. Die Küste evolved at the exit of the free port (Überseestadt) on the Nordstraße. It was linked to the Walle district by a foot tunnel, the Stinkbüdelmannsgang. The area was also known as the Küstenmeile (Coast mile) and Klein-St. Pauli, drawing similarities to the Hamburg red-light district of St. Pauli. Today there are still a few bars still in existence dating from the days of Die Küste.

The University of Bremen (German: Universität Bremen) is a public university in Bremen, Germany, with approximately 23,500 people from 115 countries. It is one of 11 institutions which were successful in the category "Institutional Strategies" of the Excellence Initiative launched by the Federal Government and the Federal States in 2012. The university was also successful in the categories "Graduate Schools" and "Clusters of Excellence" of the initiative. The City University of Applied Sciences (German: Hochschule Bremen) is a public Fachhochschule, a University of Applied Sciences, located in Bremen, Germany. In 1982, this University evolved from the fusion of four Universities of Applied Sciences: the Universities for technology, business, social pedagogy and social economy, and nautics. The history of the City University of Applied Sciences traces back to the foundation of the Technikum, a School for Civil Engineering and Shipping in 1894 and the foundation of the Social Women's' School, the first School of Social Work in Bremen in 1918.Hochschule Bremen is a member of the UAS7 (Seven Universities of Applied Sciences) network that forms a strategic alliance of seven leading German Universities of Applied Sciences in teaching and research.

The University of the Arts Bremen (German: Hochschule für Künste Bremen, HfK Bremen) is a public university in Bremen, Germany. It is one of the most successful arts institutions, and its origins date back to 1873. The University of the Arts Bremen runs a Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, and a Faculty of Music, with approximately 900 students, 65 professors and about 180 assistant professors. The academic subdivisions within the University are Music, Art, Design and practical theory. The institution's specialisms in both music and visual arts is unique within Germany, save for the Berlin University of the Arts. Recent works and exhibitions combine visual art, digital media and music, with emphasis on co-operation between disciplines.
