Speers Point, New South Wales

Lochend Colliery was a mine located at Speers Point, New South Wales, Australia. William Brooks began mining coal at the foot of the Munibung Hill near Speers Point in 1843. The coal was carried by trolleys on a small gauge tram line to a jetty at Speers Point. The coal could either be collected from the jetty or it could be transported to the head of Lake Macquarie, known as Reid's Mistake for collection. The mine ceased operations in 1847.

Boolaroo is a suburb of Greater Newcastle, city of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia, located 19 kilometres (12 mi) west of Newcastle's central business district in Lake Macquarie's West Ward. It was the epicenter of the 1989 Newcastle earthquake. Boolaroo borders a number of well-known towns and suburbs within the Lake Macquarie Region, including Warners Bay and Speers Point, and, for a small strip of land, fronts onto Lake Macquarie itself. Within Boolaroo is Cockle Creek railway station, a small station on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. Also, Boolaroo previously housed a lead/zinc smelter, owned by the former Pasminco (now Zinifex) however the site has been cleared since the smelter ceased operations in 2003. Boolaroo is home to several churches, of various denominations, as well as Boolaroo Public School, a library, a cinema (which was partially destroyed in the 1989 Newcastle earthquake) and a number of shops, including a small supermarket and a military disposal store.

The Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility (LMRFF) is a football facility located in Speers Point, NSW. Developed in 2014, it consists of: 2 full-size synthetic football fields, 10 five-a-side football fields, an administration building, a 120-space vehicle parking area and associated infrastructure.

Lake Macquarie City FC is a football club in Lake Macquarie, New South Wales. The club was formed in 1912 formed by a group of Scottish miners in the area.

Cockle Creek Smelter was a zinc and lead smelter located at the northern end of Lake Macquarie near Boolaroo in Newcastle, New South Wales. The smelter was built in by the Sulphide Corporation in 1896 and the first attempts to refine zinc using the Ashcroft Process began in 1897 but that process was abandoned shortly after due to technical difficulties. The plant was subsequently adapted to smelt Lead using blast furnace technology. The smelter produced large quantities of Zinc, Lead and sulphuric acid during its life. The Cockle Creek Smelter was one of the Hunter regions first major industrial site and its operation contributed to the economic growth of New South Wales and Australia. Other materials were produced at the smelter to fill the need as required such as Cement, Superphosphate and compounds for explosive manufacture for the war effort in World War I and World War II. A rail connection was made from the plant to the Newcastle line on 16 July 1896. The smelter closed in September 2003, since it had become uneconomic. Munibung Hill is the name of a hill in New South Wales which is in the suburbs of Macquarie Hills, Boolaroo, Speers Point and Warners Bay. The name is believed to have been derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "fruit".Munibung Hill – meaning ‘fruit’ – was gazetted on 23 December 1977, but we cannot establish who proposed the name and why it was chosen i.e. presuming there was bush tucker present on Munibung Hill which species or variety of fruit was it; and why not Kona-konaba, since the Hill was well known as a source of ochre.

Cockle Creek railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Boolaroo. The station is on the eastern side of Cockle Creek and a balloon loop exists west of the creek for the Teralba Colliery.

Marmong Point is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia north-north-east of the town of Toronto on the western shore of Lake Macquarie. Marmong is an Aboriginal word meaning low water or swampy water.

The 1989 Newcastle earthquake was an intraplate earthquake that occurred in Newcastle, New South Wales on Thursday 28 December. The shock measured 5.6 on the Richter magnitude scale and was one of Australia's most serious natural disasters, killing 13 people and injuring more than 160. The damage bill has been estimated at A$4 billion (or $8.5 billion in 2018, adjusted for inflation), including an insured loss of about $1 billion (or $2.1 billion in 2018, adjusted for inflation).The effects were felt over an area of around 200,000 square kilometres (77,000 sq mi) in the state of New South Wales, with isolated reports of movement in areas up to 800 kilometres (500 mi) from Newcastle. Damage to buildings and facilities was reported over an area of 9,000 km2 (3,500 sq mi).

Lakelands is a residential suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia 16 kilometres (10 mi) south-west of Newcastle's central business district near the northern end of Lake Macquarie. It is part of the City of Lake Macquarie west ward, and was formerly part of Warners Bay. Along Ambleside Circuit, the suburb's main street, is "Lakelands Business Centre". There is a variety of small businesses including a cafe, barber and psychiatrist. There is a tennis court, playground and also a cricket field in the south of Lakelands. In 2015, Lakelands was expanded into a former bush area, adding a residential area to the west of the suburb, bordering Warners Bay.

Warners Bay High School is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in Warners Bay, a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. Established in January 1966, the school caters for approximately 1,300 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom three percent identified as Indigenous Australians and seven percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education; the principal is Marcus Neale.

Booragul railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the City of Lake Macquarie suburb of Booragul opening on 24 October 1926.The original station buildings were extensively damaged in the 1989 Newcastle earthquake, resulting in their demolition and replacement with the current structures. A housing development west of the station is currently under construction, however, there is no convenient access to the railway station, and will likely do little to increase patronage (which averaged at 110 passengers per day in 2013).
