Crown Heights North Historic District

Brower Park is a municipal park in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York City. It is located between Brooklyn Avenue to the west and Kingston Avenue to the east, and between St. Marks Avenue to the north and Park Place to the south. The T-shaped park encompasses roughly 4 acres (1.6 ha) and shares a square block with the Brooklyn Children's Museum and P.S. 289 George V Brower.

The Brooklyn Children's Museum is a children's museum in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1899, it is the first children's museum in the United States – and according to some, the first one worldwide. It is unusual in its location in what is predominantly a residential area. Housed in a multi-level underground gallery, the museum underwent an expansion and renovation to double its space, reopened on September 20, 2008, and became the first green museum in New York City.

Crown Heights is a neighborhood in the central portion of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Crown Heights is bounded by Washington Avenue to the west, Atlantic Avenue to the north, Ralph Avenue to the east, and Empire Boulevard/East New York Avenue to the south. It is about one mile (1.6 km) wide and two miles (3.2 km) long. Neighborhoods bordering Crown Heights include Prospect Heights to the west, Flatbush and Prospect Lefferts Gardens to the south, Brownsville to the east, and Bedford-Stuyvesant to the north. The main thoroughfare through this neighborhood is Eastern Parkway, a tree-lined boulevard designed by Frederick Law Olmsted extending two miles (3.2 km) east–west. Originally, the area was known as Crow Hill. It was a succession of hills running east and west from Utica Avenue to Washington Avenue, and south to Empire Boulevard and East New York Avenue. The name was changed when Crown Street was cut through in 1916.The northern half of Crown Heights is part of Brooklyn Community District 8 and is patrolled by the 77th Precinct of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The southern half is part of Brooklyn Community District 9 and is patrolled by the 71st Precinct of the NYPD. Crown Heights's primary ZIP Codes are 11213, 11216, 11225, 11233, and 11238. Politically, it is represented by the New York City Council's 35th, 36th, and 41st Districts.

Brooklyn–Tompkins Avenues was a station on the demolished BMT Fulton Street Line. It was originally opened on May 30, 1888, and had 2 tracks and 2 side platforms. It was served by trains of the BMT Fulton Street Line. Eastbound trains stopped at Brooklyn Avenue, while westbound trains stopped at Tompkins Avenue. The station had connections to the Tompkins Avenue Line streetcars. The next stop to the east was Albany Avenue, which was replaced by Troy Avenue at some point. The next stop to the west was Nostrand Avenue. In 1936, the Independent Subway System built an underground Fulton Street subway station at Kingston–Throop Avenues between here and the site of the former Albany–Sumner Avenues station. The el station became obsolete, and it closed on May 31, 1940.

Nostrand Avenue is an elevated station on the Long Island Rail Road's Atlantic Branch in the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. Trains leave every 12–15 minutes during peak hours and 30 minutes during off-peak hours until 11 p.m. Despite being a commuter rail stop, the station resembles a typical elevated New York City Subway station. Before the renovations began in 2018, the station featured white-on-black signage as found on the subway. They have since been replaced with black-on-white signage as seen at all other LIRR stations. Though originally built in 1877, the current elevated station was built between 1903 and 1905.

A&A Bake & Doubles and Roti Shop is a Caribbean restaurant owned by Trinidadian immigrants Noel and Geeta Brown, located on Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. It is known for its doubles (curried chickpea sandwiches on fried flatbread), bake, roti, and other dishes. It was originally located on Nostrand Avenue at Macon Street, and moved to Fulton Street due to a dramatic increase in business, which has been in part attributed to the effects of gentrification in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The house located on 87 MacDonough Street in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn has been a part of the Bedford-Stuyvesant/Stuyvesant Heights Historic District since 1975. It is one of the oldest surviving structures in the neighborhood dating back to its construction in 1863. It is owned by the United Order of Tents. The house lies in one of the nation's largest African American and Caribbean-American neighborhoods, making it distinct from other areas of the city. The Historic Districts Council describes this neighborhoods historical significance, "Although the district was constructed by dozens of architects, builders, and developers working in the late 19th century and early 20th centuries, it owes its continuing beauty to the dedication of countless homeowners who, for the past century, have safeguarded Bedford's architectural heritage, guaranteeing its survival for future generations."

Brooklyn Home for Consumptives (previously, Garfield Memorial Home; later, Brooklyn Thoracic Hospital and Brooklyn Hospital; currently, Brooklyn Hospital Center) was an American sanatorium located in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1881 as an almshouse, it was a purely benevolent and non-sectarian institution. It had two sections, one of which was attended by homoeopathic physicians and the other by allopathic practitioners, who treated the patients according to their choice. The home went through several changes before becoming the Brooklyn Hospital Center.

Nostrand Avenue was a station on the demolished BMT Fulton Street Line. It was originally built on April 24, 1888 and had 2 tracks and 2 side platforms. It was served by trains of the BMT Fulton Street Line, and served as the eastern terminus of the line for a month and a week. Nostrand Avenue station had connections to at least four streetcar lines; The Nostrand Avenue Trolley, the Lorimer Street Line, the Marcy Avenue Line, and the Ocean Avenue Line trolleys. Under the Dual Contracts, the station was the west end of a project to expand the line from two to three tacks. On April 9, 1936, the Independent Subway System built the Nostrand Avenue Subway Station along the IND Fulton Street Line. The el station became obsolete, and it closed on May 31, 1940.

The Kingston–Throop Avenues station is a local station on the IND Fulton Street Line of the New York City Subway. Located on Fulton Street between Kingston and Throop Avenues in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, it is served by the C train at all times except nights, when the A train takes over service.

Kismet Temple, also known as the Kismet Mosque and Friendship Baptist Church, is a historic meeting hall located in the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. It was built in 1909–1910 as the "Kismet Temple" of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, commonly referred to as "Shriners". It was designed by R. Thomas Short in the Eclectic Moorish Revival style. Its front facade is constructed of yellow brick and limestone-like glazed terra cotta trim with elaborate Moorish decoration. The building was sold to Friendship Baptist Church in 1966. It is thought to be the oldest Shriners mosque still intact.: 3, 6, 10 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The Nostrand Avenue station is a two-level express station on the IND Fulton Street Line of the New York City Subway, located at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. It is served by the A train at all times and the C train at all times except late nights. The station was planned as part of the construction of the Independent Subway System (IND)'s Fulton Street Line. Construction of the station began around 1929, and it was opened to service on April 9, 1936. Several of the station's entrances were closed in the late 20th century due to crime. In the 2010s and 2020s, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced plans to make the station ADA-accessible and to reopen closed exits. Nostrand Avenue has four tracks and four side platforms, with two platform levels. Express trains stop on the upper level while local trains stop on the lower level. This is because, in the original design for the station, the Nostrand Avenue station was slated to be a local station with only two platforms, and the current upper level was intended to be a mezzanine. The primary entrances to the local and express platforms in each direction are at Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street. Another set of entrances from both sets of platforms leads to Bedford Avenue and Fulton Street.
