Girls' Academy of Newark is a public all-girls' school in Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The school, under Newark Public Schools, is located in the Louise A. Spencer School complex in Central Ward. The school, scheduled to become a grade 6-12 school, opened in 2013 with 75 sixth-grade students. It was the first public all-girls' school in New Jersey since Battin High School in Elizabeth, which merged into a boys' school in 1977.

Weequahic High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, located in the Weequahic section of Newark in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school is operated by the Newark Public Schools and is located at 279 Chancellor Avenue. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1935.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 396 students and 32.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1. There were 277 students (69.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 18 (4.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Weequahic (pronounced Wee-QUAY-ic, or WEEK-wake "when spoken rapidly") is a neighborhood in the city of Newark in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. Part of the South Ward, it is separated from Clinton Hill by Hawthorne Avenue on the north, and bordered by the township of Irvington on the west, Newark Liberty International Airport and Dayton on the east, and Hillside Township and the city of Elizabeth on the south. There are many well maintained homes and streets. Part of the Weequahic neighborhood has been designated a historic district; major streets are Lyons Avenue, Bergen Street, and Chancellor Avenue. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a major long-time institution in the neighborhood.

Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art (NSFIA) was a city-run vocational and art school in Newark, New Jersey. Opened in 1882 as the Evening Drawing School, its name was changed in 1909 to the Fawcett School of Industrial Arts, and changed again in 1928 to the Newark Public School of Fine and Industrial Art. The name was shortened to Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art some time later. It moved into a new building in 1931.A number of well-known artists served on the faculty at Newark over the years, including the prolific illustrator and graphic designer Irv Docktor and painter John R. Grabach. Others included Enid Bell, Gustave Cimiotti, Hannes Beckman (design and color), Hillaire Hiler (color), Joseph Konzal (sculpture), Gerson Leiber (print making), Leopold Matzal (portrait), Reuben Nakian (sculpture), Robert Conover, Leo Dee, Jane Burgio, and Grigory Gurevich. Ida Wells Stroud taught there from c.1907 to 1943. The painter Avery Johnson taught at the Newark School from 1947 to 1960. In addition to teaching there, the painter Gustave Cimiotti, Jr. served as director of the school from 1935 to 1943. Henry Gasser, well known for his paintings of Newark, served as director from 1946 to 1954.The school closed its doors in 1997 when, in the midst of a budget crisis for the Newark public school system, it was decided that public schools would only operate K-12 schools. The school was originally housed within the same building as the Newark Arts High School. The college moved from that facility due to lack funding in the early 1990s and was relocated to Lyons Avenue until its 1997 closure.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC), previously Newark Beth Israel Hospital, is a 665-bed quaternary care, teaching hospital located in Newark, New Jersey serving the healthcare needs for Newark and the Northern Jersey area. The hospital is owned by the RWJBarnabas Health System and is the third largest hospital in the system. NBIMC is affiliated with the New Jersey Medical School of Rutgers University and features over 100 residents. It has an adult and pediatric emergency department, but serious trauma is usually handled by the nearby University Hospital. Attached to the medical center is the Children's Hospital of New Jersey, which treats infants and young people up to age 21.

Dayton is a neighborhood within the city of Newark in Essex County, New Jersey. It is part of the city's south ward and was named after Jonathan Dayton, a Founding Father of the United States. The area is bounded on the north by Peddie Street (Thomas Baldwin Peddie), on the east by Newark Liberty International Airport, on the south by Elizabeth, and on the west by Elizabeth Avenue. The main road through the neighborhood is Frelinghuysen Avenue, but it is surrounded by U.S. Route 1/9, Interstate 78 and U.S. Route 22. The neighborhood of Dayton encompasses all of Weequahic Park, the second largest park in Newark. The park includes an 80-acre (320,000 m2) lake, Weequahic Golf Course and an old racetrack now used for jogging. The park has gospel and jazz concerts at night. The park is bisected by US 22 and the larger, southern section of the park (including Weequahic Lake) is easily accessible to Dayton.Jonathan Dayton (October 16, 1760 – October 9, 1824) was an American politician from the U.S. state of New Jersey. He was the youngest person to sign the United States Constitution and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving as the fourth Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and later the U.S. Senate. Years ago, the area of Dayton was also known for Twin City, a skating rink located on the Newark-Elizabeth border in the area of Virginia Street. St.Thomas Aquinas RC Church is located on Ludlow St. There is one train station in Dayton, Newark Liberty International Airport, served by New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor Line and North Jersey Coast Line, and Amtrak's Northeast Regional and Keystone Service. The station was built in 2001 to connect NJT's commuter lines and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor services with the airport's AirTrain system. It opened four years after service was run between terminals on the AirTrain. The station is only a transfer station and not publicly accessible by any roads. Proposal to extend PATH service to the airport may include a station at Dayton.

Weequahic Golf Course (pronounced we-QWAY-ik) is an 18-hole public course located in the Dayton neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey. Designed in 1913 by George Low, it is the oldest public golf course in New Jersey. The word "Weequahic" is from the Lenni-Lenape Native American term for "head of the cove". The course sits next to the 311 acre (1.3 km²) Olmsted Brothers-designed Weequahic Park, which features a 2.2-mile rubberized jogging path around its 80-acre (324,000 m²) lake. It is also adjacent to Evergreen Cemetery, an American cemetery and located at 1137 North Broad Street, Hillside. The course is home to golf pro legend Wiley Williams, who was one of the first African-American golfers to win a major New Jersey golf event and worked to introduce city youth to the sport. The course is also home to the First Tee Program of Essex County which teaches youth to golf.The course was described in 2016 by the Golf Channel as a "hidden gem."

University High School of Humanities (usually University High School) is a six-year public high school serving students in seventh through twelfth grades in Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Newark Public Schools. Originally created as a program called "School Within a School" at Malcolm X Shabazz High School, University High School became a standalone school in 1977. It moved into the old Clinton Place Junior High building in 1982.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 464 students and 41.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.3:1. There were 354 students (76.3% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 38 (8.2% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Atlas also produces a line of compatible structures and bridges.

Hillside is a township in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 22,456, an increase of 1,052 (+4.9%) from the 2010 census count of 21,404, which in turn reflected a decline of 343 (−1.6%) from the 21,747 counted in the 2000 census.Hillside was incorporated as a township on April 3, 1913, from portions of Union Township, based on the results of a referendum held on April 29, 1913. The township was named for the surrounding hills.The township is split between area codes 908 and 973.

Irvington Bus Terminal is a regional bus terminus located at 1085 Clinton Avenue in Irvington, New Jersey. It is owned and operated by New Jersey Transit (NJT) and is served by buses traveling to Newark and other points in Essex County, to Union and Passaic counties, and to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. The terminal was originally built in 1947 and underwent significant renovation and expansion in the early 2000s. It is one of the NJT's busiest facilities, daily serving over 12,500 passengers with more than 450 bus trips. and is origination/termination point for one of Greater Newark's bus rapid transit (BRT) lines. In July 2015, the central business district around the terminal was designated a transit village, qualifying it for incentives for revitalization.

The park is 311.33 acres including an 80-acre (320,000 m2) lake.In the early 2020s, following upgrades, Weequahic Park began serving as the home game site for the Rutgers University Scarlet Raiders baseball team.The East Coast Greenway runs through the park. West of Weequahic Park is Weequahic, a middle-class residential neighborhood. East of Weequahic Park is the Dayton section of the city (the park itself as well is in the Dayton section) and Newark Airport.
