The Patrick School is an independent private co-educational four-year high school in Hillside in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The school was established in 2012 following the closure of St. Patrick High School Academy, which was a co-educational four-year Catholic high school in Elizabeth, New Jersey, that operated under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark and had been founded as a vocational school in 1863 as part of Saint Patrick's Parish in Elizabeth, making it the oldest parochial high school in New Jersey. The Patrick School originally operated on the site in Elizabeth that had been St. Patrick High School and the school has continued to carry on the legacy of its predecessor even after its move to Hillside.The Patrick School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools through July 2029.

Hillside is a township in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 22,456, an increase of 1,052 (+4.9%) from the 2010 census count of 21,404, which in turn reflected a decline of 343 (−1.6%) from the 21,747 counted in the 2000 census.Hillside was incorporated as a township on April 3, 1913, from portions of Union Township, based on the results of a referendum held on April 29, 1913. The township was named for the surrounding hills.The township is split between area codes 908 and 973.

The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 890 students and 82.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.8:1. There were 403 students (45.3% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 52 (5.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Girls' Academy of Newark is a public all-girls' school in Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The school, under Newark Public Schools, is located in the Louise A. Spencer School complex in Central Ward. The school, scheduled to become a grade 6-12 school, opened in 2013 with 75 sixth-grade students. It was the first public all-girls' school in New Jersey since Battin High School in Elizabeth, which merged into a boys' school in 1977.

Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark is an all boys' public school in Newark in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, operating as part of the Newark Public Schools. The Eagle Academy Foundation supports the educational programs of this school and other all-boys' schools in New York City. As of 2012, Eagle Academy of Newark is the only all-boys' public school in the State of New Jersey. It is Newark's first single gender public school; it has a university preparatory curriculum and has small class sizes. It is located in the Louise A. Spencer School complex in the Central Ward.As of the 2018–19 school year, the school had an enrollment of 239 students and 25.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.6:1. Weequahic High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, located in the Weequahic section of Newark in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school is operated by the Newark Public Schools and is located at 279 Chancellor Avenue. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1935.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 396 students and 32.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.2:1. There were 277 students (69.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 18 (4.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art (NSFIA) was a city-run vocational and art school in Newark, New Jersey. Opened in 1882 as the Evening Drawing School, its name was changed in 1909 to the Fawcett School of Industrial Arts, and changed again in 1928 to the Newark Public School of Fine and Industrial Art. The name was shortened to Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art some time later. It moved into a new building in 1931.A number of well-known artists served on the faculty at Newark over the years, including the prolific illustrator and graphic designer Irv Docktor and painter John R. Grabach. Others included Enid Bell, Gustave Cimiotti, Hannes Beckman (design and color), Hillaire Hiler (color), Joseph Konzal (sculpture), Gerson Leiber (print making), Leopold Matzal (portrait), Reuben Nakian (sculpture), Robert Conover, Leo Dee, Jane Burgio, and Grigory Gurevich. Ida Wells Stroud taught there from c.1907 to 1943. The painter Avery Johnson taught at the Newark School from 1947 to 1960. In addition to teaching there, the painter Gustave Cimiotti, Jr. served as director of the school from 1935 to 1943. Henry Gasser, well known for his paintings of Newark, served as director from 1946 to 1954.The school closed its doors in 1997 when, in the midst of a budget crisis for the Newark public school system, it was decided that public schools would only operate K-12 schools. The school was originally housed within the same building as the Newark Arts High School. The college moved from that facility due to lack funding in the early 1990s and was relocated to Lyons Avenue until its 1997 closure.

The Hillside Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Hillside, in Union County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of six schools, had an enrollment of 3,123 students and 260.7 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.0:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "CD", the sixth-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. Union is a NJ Transit railroad station in Union, New Jersey. Located on the Conrail Lehigh Line, Union is served by Raritan Valley Line trains that travel between Newark Penn Station and Raritan. There is also limited service to and from High Bridge and New York Penn Station and one morning train to Hoboken Terminal. The physical structures of the station are owned by NJ Transit; however, the land remains the property of Conrail Shared Assets Operations, which is in turn owned by Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Corporation.

Michael Graves College at Kean University includes the School of Public Architecture and the Robert Busch School of Design. The University was originally founded in 1855, the college is a center for teaching and research in architectural design, history, and theory at Kean University and Wenzhou-Kean University. The college offers an undergraduate Bachelor's Degree and advanced degrees at the master's levels.

The Woodruff House is located in Hillside, Union County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1735 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 11, 1978.

The James Townley House is a historic house on the campus of Kean University located at the intersection of Morris Avenue and Green Lane in Union Township, Union County, New Jersey. Built c. 1796, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1979, for its significance in architecture.
