The population was 549 at the 2010 census, down from 778 at the 2000 census. Friant is located 11.5 miles (19 km) north of Clovis, at an elevation of 344 feet (105 m).

El Prado is a former settlement in Fresno County, California. It was located at the junction of the San Joaquin and Eastern and the Southern Pacific Railroads 6 miles (9.7 km) north-northwest of Clovis, at an elevation of 377 feet (115 m). The primary function of the settlement was as a switch yard and was initially known as "Nopac Siding", which was changed to El Prado (The Meadow) shortly after its construction. It still appeared on maps as of 1922.

Dr. Floyd B. Buchanan High School, known as Buchanan High School, is a four-year public high school in Clovis, California, United States. The school is part of the Buchanan Educational Center, which houses approximately 5,000 students at Garfield Elementary School (K-6), Alta Sierra Intermediate School (7-8), and Buchanan High School. The school graduated its first class in the spring of 1995, and is named after CUSD's first district superintendent, Dr. Floyd B. Buchanan, which makes Buchanan High School the only CUSD high school that does not contain "Clovis" in its name.

Temperance Flat Dam is a proposed dam project on the San Joaquin River west of Auberry, California. Construction of the dam is on hold. The dam's main purpose would be to supplement storage capacity in the upper San Joaquin River basin. Under the current proposal, Temperance Flat would slightly more than double water storage on the San Joaquin River from below Friant Dam. The project is highly controversial because it would flood scenic canyons and historic sites along the San Joaquin River, and impact upstream hydroelectricity generation. The Bureau of Reclamation estimates the construction costs will be between US$2.5 billion and $2.6 billion, while other estimates range from $2.96 billion up to $3.35 billion. At 665 feet (203 m), Temperance Flat Dam would be the second highest dam in California, and the fifth tallest dam in the United States.On February 28, 2014, Representative Jim Costa (D-CA) introduced H.R. 4127, to authorize construction of the Temperance Flat Dam. The Bureau of Reclamation released a draft environmental impact statement for the project in September 2014. The dam was one of three major storage projects funded by a $7.5 billion water bond passed in November 2014. Of the $7.5 billion bond, $2.7 billion was to be reserved for the three projects with an estimated $1.25 billion going to fund the Temperance Flat Dam. As of 2020, construction of the dam was put on indefinite hold due to cost and conservation concerns.

The Helm Canal is an aqueduct named after William Helm in Clovis, California, United States, involved in a series of water transfers to eliminate selenium bearing brackish waters to the San Joaquin River to bypass agricultural deliveries.The Helm canal was previously used to irrigate numerous properties that were in agricultural usage and are presently converted to urban uses such as the site of the Clovis Towne Center. Topography in the locale of the Helm Canal is generally very level having been formed by alluvial fans. The elevation in the vicinity of the Helm Canal is approximately 350 ft (110 m) to 375 ft (114 m) above mean sea level datum.
