Holy Rood Church, Barnsley

Hope House School (HHS, formerly Barnsley Christian School) was a 4–16 mixed, Christian, private school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It was established in 1985 and closed on 27 April 2018. It was part of the Hope House Church.

Barnsley Town Hall is the seat of local government in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It is a Grade II listed building.

The Barnsley and District Electric Traction Co was an electric tramway network serving the town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The tramway was a subsidiary of the British Electric Traction and services begun on 31 October 1902. In early 1898, three companies had applied for local tramway systems, the Barnsley Corporation applied in 1900 for a larger network than it finally built. In 1913, the company began to run motor buses to Hoyland and other points, Electric was dropped form the company name in 1919. the Barnsley company changed its name to Yorkshire Traction Co. in 1928 and abandoned tramway operation in 1930. Ignoring Oxford and Bristol, YTC is the largest bus operator to have originated from a tramway company in England.

Barnsley was a rural district in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1894 to 1938. It encompassed the surrounding area but did not include the town of Barnsley.

Barnsley College is a further education college just outside the town centre of Barnsley, England. It has several campuses, including the SciTech Digital Innovation Centre and The Electric Theatre. The college provides A Levels, apprenticeships and vocational courses for students. Upon its last Ofsted inspection, the college was awarded the grade of Outstanding, the highest grade available; further to this award the college was also deemed The best college in the UK by Ofsted officials.

St Mary's Church otherwise known as the Parish of St Mary the Virgin, Barnsley is a grade II* listed active Parish Church in the town of Barnsley, in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Built in 1400, the church is located on Church Lane and is directly next to the college and town hall. The church is used for hosting religious services and Barnsley College use it for music performances and events. The church is the main parish church in Barnsley and local suburbs.

Barnsley Central is a constituency in South Yorkshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2011 by Dan Jarvis of the Labour Party.Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to moderate boundary changes and will be renamed Barnsley North, to be first contested at the next general election.

Alhambra Shopping Centre, also known by its former name The Mall Barnsley, is Barnsley's main shopping complex, housing 41 shops and adjacent to Barnsley Market. The centre was opened in 1991. A number of chains have been in the centre in the past, most notable was Woolworths which ceased trading in December 2008. It was owned and operated by shopping centre operator The Mall Fund until its sale to F&C REIT in September 2011. In the centre there are a number of small retail stalls which encourage independent businesses to start. Current stores (as of January 2023) include: Primark, the Works, Select, Bonmarche, CeX, Iceland, Vodafone, Wilko, Poundstretcher, Card Factory, MaxiDeals and Hays Travel.

Central Offices was a municipal facility at Kendray Street in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. As County Hall, it was the headquarters of South Yorkshire County Council.

The Barnsley Public Hall disaster took place on Saturday 11 January 1908 in a public hall in Barnsley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. It resulted in the deaths of sixteen children. At least 40 others were seriously injured. A number of children were entering the hall to see a show when a staircase became overcrowded, and there was a crush as they tried to get inside. The survivors were taken to Beckett Hospital.

Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. The town's population was 96,888 in 2021, while the wider borough had a population of 244,600 in the 2021 census.Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located between the cities of Sheffield, Manchester, Doncaster, Wakefield and Leeds; the larger towns of Rotherham and Huddersfield are nearby. Barnsley's former industries include linen, coal mining, glass making and textiles. Barnsley's culture is rooted in its industrial heritage and it has a tradition of brass bands, originally created as social clubs by its mining communities.

The Open College of the Arts (OCA) is an open learning arts college, with a Head Office in Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. Founded in 1987 by Michael Young, it is a registered charity and part of The Open University. As of the 2023/24 academic year, the full cost of a part-time undergraduate degree with the Open College of the Arts is around half the cost of a degree at a bricks-and-mortar university. OCA was acquired by the Open University (OU) in 2022 and from 1 August 2023 OCA-taught students will be enrolling as OU students.
