WayHome Music and Arts was a music and arts festival held at Burl's Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada. The festival was held in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

The Boots and Hearts Music Festival is a multi-day country music and camping festival produced by Republic Live Inc. and owned by Stan and Eva Dunford. The festival is held annually at the Burl's Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada. Since its inception in 2012, Boots and Hearts has grown to become Canada's largest country music festival and the second largest music festival in North America behind only the CMA Music Festival. Boots and Hearts was awarded the CCMA (Canadian Country Music Association) "Festival of the Year" Award in 2014, 2015, and 2016, as well as the Canadian Music Week "Festival of the Year" in 2015. In 2019 and 2020, they were nominated for "Festival of the Year" by the Academy of Country Music Awards. The 2020 and 2021 editions of the event were cancelled due to the global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Barrie Speedway was a 1/3-mile tri-oval racing track located in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada, north of Barrie. It was a member of CASCAR Super Series between 1989 and 1995, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for the Ontario Provincial and National (Continental) championships between 2007 and 2014, and also hosted a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 10 races between 2007 and 2014. The track underwent major upgrades in 2004 which included upgrades to seating, pits and a full resurfacing and partial reconfiguration of the racing surface into its short track tri-oval it had up to its demolition.

The airport is operated by Lake Simcoe Regional Airport Inc., a municipal service corporation jointly owned by the County of Simcoe (90%) and the City of Barrie (10%).The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on a call-out basis from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. CBSA officers at this airport can handle aircraft with no more than 24 passengers. The airport has published instrument approaches.

Friday Harbour is a 600-acre mixed-use development in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, 70 km north of Toronto. Built by the Geranium Corporation, the development contains residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, including a marina and golf course. Situated on Lake Simcoe's Big Bay Point, the resort's focal point is a 1000 slip in-land marina, the largest of its kind in Canada. Once construction is complete there will be 2600 residential units, a 400-room hotel, and a theatre.Envisioned as a New Urbanist village, Friday Harbour was designed to be an alternative to the traditional residential offerings of Ontario's cottage country, which are typically single-family homes located on or near a body of water. In this design, the connection to the water and nature would be maintained, but the dependence on driving over walking for daily necessities would be eliminated, or greatly reduced. DPZ CoDesign, the designers of Seaside, Florida, a notable early example of a New Urbanist development in North America, were brought on to design Friday Harbour.The first residents took occupancy in 2017, along with the opening of the first restaurants and shops on the pedestrian promenade.

The Oro Moraine is a glacial moraine in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. The moraine covers 141 square kilometres (54 sq mi) north of Barrie, Ontario. The moraine drains into Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, and the smaller Lake Simcoe. Water transporting layers within the moraine, composed of sand and gravel, are separated by relatively impervious aquitard layers composed of or silt or clay. Efforts are being made to preserve undeveloped land on the moraine, and to encourage land owners to leave their property as a legacy to the regional conservation authorities in their wills.

Oro-Medonte is a township in south-central Ontario, Canada, on the northwestern shores of Lake Simcoe in Simcoe County. The two townships of Oro and Medonte were originally incorporated on January 1, 1850. They were amalgamated, as well as Hawkstone Police Village (incorporated in 1922), on January 1, 1994, under a restructuring of Simcoe County. It is divided into lines based on the concession system implemented by the British colonial government in the mid-18th century. Currently there are 15 lines that are now streets and highway exits off Highway 11.

Kempenfest is an outdoor arts and crafts festival in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The festival occurs annually over the August long weekend and features over 300 artisans, an antique show, food demonstrations, children's activities and live entertainment. It is named after Kempenfelt Bay and began in 1971. It was originally placed at Formosa Spring Breweries Park (later known as Molson Park) Ontario, and moved to downtown Barrie in 1975. The festival includes a 2000-metre swim across Kempenfelt Bay, leaving from Centennial Beach. Since 2014, the city has offered free shuttle service around the bay.Kempenfest is organized by a committee representing eight different organizations who each play a role in executing the event. The Barrie Art Club and the Barrie Kiwanis Club form the Huronia Festival of Arts and Crafts, who jury the 350+ art and craft exhibitors into the event. The Optimist Club coordinates the Antiques section of the event. The Chamber of Commerce hosts a beer garden and entertainment stage in Centennial Park. The Barrie Rotary Club hosts the main beer gardens and main stage. The YMCA hosts the Children's Village with kids activities throughout the weekend. The Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus and Optimist Club also run food and beverage outlets at the event. These groups typically raise over $250,000 annually for their community work through their involvement in Kempenfest.

The Huronia Regional Centre (previously the Ontario Hospital School, Orillia, and initially the Orillia Asylum for Idiots) was an institution for developmentally disabled people operated by the government of Ontario, Canada between 1876 and 2009.
