Lockington rail crash

Lockington railway station was a minor station serving the village of Lockington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull to Scarborough Line and was opened on 6 October 1846 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed on 13 June 1960. In 1986, the Lockington rail crash, a serious collision on the level crossing by the station causing eight deaths and several injuries.The station building, which was designed by George Townsend Andrews, was given Grade II listed building status in 1987.

Scorborough is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Leconfield, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the A164 road, about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Beverley and 8 miles (13 km) south of Driffield. In 1931 the parish had a population of 85. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Leconfield.The church of St Leonard is designated a Grade I listed building and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

Beswick () is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated on the A164 road, about 6 miles (10 km) north of Beverley and 6 miles south of Driffield. The civil parish is formed by the villages of Beswick and Kilnwick and the hamlet of Wilfholme. According to the 2011 UK census, Beswick parish had a population of 357, a slight decline on the 2001 UK census figure of 372.Beswick was the former home of P.H. Sissons & Sons, famous for wheelwrighting and building 'Wolds Wagons' since 1854. One of the wagons is at Skidby Windmill. Beswick Hall was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1968 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

Watton Priory was a priory of the Gilbertine Order at Watton in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The double monastery was founded in 1150 by Eustace fitz John.The present building dates mainly from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. A house was added in the nineteenth century. It is a Grade I listed building. King Edward I of England imprisoned young Scottish Princess Marjorie Bruce there after her capture until eight years later, when he himself died. The priory was dissolved in 1539 by Henry VIII. The last prior Robert Holgate (1481/1482 – 1555) was Bishop of Llandaff from 1537 and then Archbishop of York (from 1545 to 1554). The Nun of Watton was the protagonist of events, recorded by St Ailred of Rievaulx in De Sanctimoniali de Wattun. The nun had been admitted to the holy life as a toddler but the young woman was unsuited to the enforced celibacy of the life of a nun and became pregnant by a lay brother in the attached male community.

Arram railway station serves the small village of Arram in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Yorkshire Coast Line and is operated by Northern who provide all passenger train services. It is mentioned in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann.

The Defence School of Transport (DST) Leconfield is located at Normandy Barracks, Leconfield near Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire in England. It is a tri-service organisation which forms part of the Defence College of Logistics Policing and Administration. It teaches driver and transport management training to personnel from the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines. The site was formerly RAF Leconfield which closed in 1977 when the Army School of Mechanical Transport moved in. The school was renamed the Defence School of Transport in 1996, when it took on responsibility for training personnel of all three British armed forces.

Watton is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated on the A164 road, about 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Beverley and 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Driffield. According to the 2011 UK census the civil parish of Watton had a population of 259, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 238.

Arram is a small (population 200) farming village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) north of the market town of Beverley and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of Leconfield. It forms part of the civil parish of Leconfield. The main features are a small railway station on the Yorkshire Coast Line, proximity to RAF Leconfield and a red phonebox. The village has a fishing venue on the tidal River Hull. The road from Leconfield is one continuous corner due to being moved in the 1970s to accommodate the lengthening of the runway for Vulcan Bombers. The Beverley Minster Way Walk goes through Arram.

The civil parish consists of Leconfield, the village of Arram and the hamlet of Scorborough. The 2011 UK census gave the parish a population of 2,127, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 1,990.

Aike ( ) is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Lockington, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The hamlet is centred around a single developed street, which lies to the east of the Yorkshire Wolds. Aike is approximately 4 miles (6 km) north of Beverley and approximately 0.4 miles (1 km) from the west bank of the River Hull. It is approached by a 2.5-mile (4 km) lane which is a no-through road that does not continue beyond the village, although a farm track continues as far as a bridge across the Beverley and Barmston Drain. In 1931 the parish had a population of 48.

North Humberside is a former postal county of England. It was introduced by the Royal Mail on 1 July 1974, when some addresses were altered in response to the changes in administration brought about under the Local Government Act 1972. The postal county corresponded approximately to the part of the new non-metropolitan county of Humberside north of the Humber estuary (including Goole, which is south of the Humber). All of the post towns included in the North Humberside had formerly been part of the Yorkshire postal county. A changeover period of one year was allowed by the postal authorities, with the new county compulsory from 1 July 1975. The postal county of South Humberside was also created at the same time, from areas previously postally in Lincolnshire.
