Capture of Geertruidenberg (1573)

Geertruidenberg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣeːrtrœydə(m)ˌbɛr(ə)x] ) is a city and municipality in the province North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands. The city, named after Saint Gertrude of Nivelles, received city rights in 1213 from the count of Holland. The fortified city prospered until the 15th century. Today, the municipality of Geertruidenberg also includes the population centres Raamsdonk and Raamsdonksveer. The municipality has a total area of 29.64 km2 (11.44 sq mi) and had a population of 21,770 in 2021. The city government consists of the mayor Willemijn van Hees and three aldermen.

The siege of Geertruidenberg was a siege of the city of Geertruidenberg that took place between 27 March and 24 June 1593 during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo–Spanish War. Anglo-Dutch troops under the commands of Maurice of Nassau and Francis Vere laid siege to the Spanish garrisoned city. The siege was unique in that the besiegers used a hundred ships, forming a semicircle in a chain on the Mass river to form a blockade. A Spanish force under the command of the Count of Mansfeld attempted to relieve the city in May, but they were defeated and later forced to withdraw. Three Governors of the city were killed - after the last fatality and as a result of the failed relief, the Spanish surrendered the city on 24 June 1593. The victory earned Maurice much fame and had thus become a steadfast strategist in the art of war.

The Amercentrale is a coal-fired power plant of RWE in the municipality Geertruidenberg. The plant is named after the Amer River and is located on the left bank of this river. In 1952 Unit 1 of the first Amercentrale began generating electricity. The much smaller Dongecentrale, decommissioned in 2011, is located near the Amercentrale.

Raamsdonk is a village in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Geertruidenberg, about 15 km northeast of Breda.

Hank is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is a part of the municipality of Altena, and lies about 10 km (6 mi) north of Oosterhout. Hanks borders on De Biesbosch National Park.It was first mentioned in 1851 as De Hank, and means "place where fishers dry their nets".The area was poldered in 1188 and a little village called Heeraartswaarde and church were built, however the settlement was destroyed in the St. Elizabeth's flood of 1421. In 1863, a Catholic parish was founded as Mariapolder, and in 1896 a convent of the Sisters of Charity was established near the village. The village was almost entirely destroyed in 1944 during World War II. Hank was rebuilt after the war.

The Donge is a small river in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It rises from springs east of Baarle-Nassau as a stream called Leij. Near Tilburg the name changes to Donge. It passes the village of Dongen and flows north to the town of Geertruidenberg where it's continued by the Amer together with the Bergse Maas. Its length is 35 km.

Made en Drimmelen was a municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It included the villages Drimmelen and Made. The municipality existed until 1997, when it merged with Hooge en Lage Zwaluwe and Terheijde, to form the new municipality "Made".

It is located in the municipality of Oosterhout.The village was first mentioned in 1311 as "Rolinus dictus van den Houte", and means deciduous forest. The area around Den Hout was settled during Roman times, but abandoned in 273. Den Hout developed in the Middle Ages around a triangular village square.The St Cornelius Church was built between 1877 and 1878 in Gothic Revival style and as an octagon spire.Den Hout was home to 650 people in 1840.

St. Paul's Abbey, Oosterhout, also Oosterhout Abbey (Dutch: Sint-Paulusabdij) is a former Benedictine abbey in Oosterhout, North Brabant, the Netherlands.

De Hoop is a gristmill in Den Hout, Netherlands. The mill was built in 1837. In 1975, the owner sold the mill to the municipality, which had it restored in 1985. It was declared a monument in 1971.
