Merit Club is a private country club in Libertyville, Illinois, a suburb north-northwest of Chicago. The course was founded in 1992 by Bert Getz Sr. and his family and was collaboratively designed by Getz, Oscar Miles, Bob Lohmann and Ed Oldfield. The course architect was Bob Lohmann. It features a 6,960-yard (6,364 m) 18-hole course. The Merit Club also has three practice holes: par 4, par 3, and par 4. Merit Club hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 2000, won by Karrie Webb. It was ranked in the top 100 golf courses in the United States by both Golf Week and Golf Magazine. The Merit Club hosted the second edition of the LPGA UL International Crown on July 21 through July 24, 2016, won by the United States. The Merit Club has had a caddie program since its opening. The Current Caddie Master is Rafael Rivera, Jr. Some notable caddies include: Ben Winkler, Nick Valencia, Jonathan Palmieri, Dillon Leeper, Ethan Porembski, Oscar Vasquez, Griffin Sahr, John Rancourt, brothers Tony, John and Jesse Moore, and Blake Leeper.

The 2000 U.S. Women's Open was the 55th U.S. Women's Open, held July 20–23 at the Merit Club in Libertyville, Illinois, a suburb north of Chicago and west of Waukegan. Karrie Webb won the first of two consecutive U.S Women's Opens, five strokes ahead of runners-up Cristie Kerr and Meg Mallon. It was the third of Webb's seven major titles. This was the first time in 19 years that the championship had been held in the Chicago metropolitan area; the Merit Club course opened eight years earlier in 1992. The purse was $2.75 million, an increase of over 57% from the previous year, with a winner's share of $500,000. Webb also picked up an additional $250,000 bonus from the Nabisco Grand Slam Challenge for winning two majors in the same year.This championship was scheduled concurrently with The Open Championship in Scotland, where Tiger Woods won his fourth straight major title at St. Andrews to secure his historic Tiger Slam.

Gages Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in Warren Township, Lake County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,637 at the 2020 census.

Six Flags Entertainment Village was the working title for a proposed 134-acre (54 ha) entertainment complex in Gurnee, Illinois, across and west of Six Flags Great America, located near Interstate 94. Owned by Six Flags and developed by Prism Development Co., the complex would have cost US$400 million. This project was intended to generate over US$5,000,000 a year. The complex was projected to draw in 400,000 visitors annually and would have been built in multiple phases.Phase one of the entertainment complex was planned for 1999, and phase two was planned in 2002 before the final date of opening was planned for 2000. Opposition to Six Flags Entertainment Village arose in 1998, with disapproval from the president of Long Grove, Illinois. He was joined by a citizens group entitled Citizens United, a Residential Village of Gurnee which formed to cancel the project. They cited congestion and rising tax prices as reasons for the disapproval of the entertainment village. Plans for the complex fell through in 1999 after residents had mainly voted against the village.

Raging Bull is a steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. Designed by Werner Stengel and manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), the ride opened to the public on May 1, 1999. It features a 208-foot (63 m) first drop, a maximum speed of 73 mph (117 km/h), and a track length of over 5,000 feet (1,524 m). It was the second B&M Hyper Coaster model to open in the United States, closely following the opening of Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Alpine Bobsled is a steel bobsled roller coaster located at The Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor amusement park in Queensbury, New York. Manufactured by Intamin, the coaster first opened to the public in 1984 at Six Flags Great Adventure. It was relocated to Six Flags Great America in 1989, and then to Great Escape in 1998.

Giant Drop is a drop tower ride located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, United States. Manufactured by Intamin, the ride opened to the public on April 26, 1997, as part of a three-phase plan for the park's Southwest Territory area. The attraction opened alongside Dare Devil Dive, a skycoaster attraction, in the County Fair section of the park. Set in the Loco Diablo Mine, the ride is themed as an ore excavator built by the fictional Southwest Mining Company. The ride received a temporary re-theme in 2017 under the name Drop of Doom featuring virtual reality headsets in partnership with Samsung. At a height of 227 ft (69 m), the ride is the second tallest attraction at Six Flags Great America, behind Sky Trek Tower at 330 ft (100 m).

American Eagle is a wooden racing roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America theme park in Gurnee, Illinois. It was the first wooden roller coaster designed by Intamin of Switzerland and was built in 1981 by the contracting firm Figley-Wright at a cost of $10 million. While most of the records have since been broken, American Eagle had the longest drop and fastest speeds among wooden roller coasters when it debuted and is still recognized as a top racing coaster in the United States.

X-Flight is a steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. Designed and built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the ride opened as the fourth Wing Coaster in the world and the second in the United States on May 16, 2012. It replaced both the Splashwater Falls and Great American Raceway attractions. The 3,000-foot-long (910 m) roller coaster features barrel rolls, high-speed drops, and a signature fly-through element, where the train narrowly misses a support structure – designed to look like an air traffic control tower – as it passes through an opening known as a keyhole element.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Chicago is a 20-acre (8.1 ha) water park located in Gurnee, Illinois, United States. Six Flags owns and operates the park, which is located within the Chicago metropolitan area. The park opened on May 28, 2005, as part of a US$42 million expansion of the adjacent amusement park Six Flags Great America, from which it has been separately gated since 2021. In the late 1990s, interest in building a water park close to Six Flags Great America was proposed; residents of Gurnee opposed these plans. A later water-park plan succeeded in 2004, when Gurnee officials confirmed a water park would be built. In its first year of operation, the park received 1.3 million visitors. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Chicago has 25 water slides and a themed area named Riptide Bay. The most recent addition, Tsunami Surge, is the world's tallest water coaster, which received accolades from the World Waterpark Association and Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards.
