Spindletop Hall

The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) is a horse breed registry for the Morgan horse, founded in 1909, and is a membership and service organization for Morgan horse breeders and owners. Its offices are located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. AMHA has published the print magazine The Morgan Horse since 1941, operates a museum in Maine, and offers a variety of public information and educational services.

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc or USPC is an American association of pony clubs. It was established in 1954, and was based on the model of the Pony Club of Great Britain, established in 1929.: 329 : ix  The national office is at the Kentucky Horse Park.: 329 Despite the word "pony" in the name of the organization, there is no limit on the size of horse that may participate in events; when the club started, only riders under twenty-one were accepted.: 329 

Maine Chance Farm was an American Thoroughbred horse racing stable in Lexington, Kentucky owned by cosmetics tycoon Elizabeth Arden. Elizabeth Arden raced under the nom de course "Mr. Nightingale" until 1943 when she adopted the name Maine Chance Farm from her health spa in Mount Vernon, Maine. During the nineteen forties and fifties, the Maine Chance Farm racing stable was a major force in American horse racing. Among the stable's many champions and stakes race winners who raced under Arden's cerise, blue and white colors were the colt Star Pilot and the filly, Beaugay, both 1945 American national champions. The Beaugay Handicap at Aqueduct Racetrack is named in the filly's honor. That year, Maine Chance Farm was the top money-winning stable in the United States. In May 1946, a fire at a racetrack in Chicago destroyed twenty-two horses owned by Maine Chance Farm. The stable's two-year-old star colt Jet Pilot survived as he had been shipped to another racetrack. Two future Hall of Famers, trainer Tom Smith and jockey Eric Guerin, worked for Maine Chance Farm and in 1947, Jet Pilot won the Kentucky Derby. In 1948, Ace Admiral won the prestigious Travers Stakes and in 1954 the Maine Chance filly Fascinator won the Kentucky Oaks. In 1960, the farm bred future Hall of Fame colt Gun Bow. In 1956, Elizabeth Arden acquired the 722-acre (2.92 km2) northern portion of Coldstream Stud on the death of owner E. Dale Shaffer and renamed it Maine Chance Farm. Following Arden's passing in 1966, the farm property became part of the College of Agriculture at the University of Kentucky. In 2005, the University of Kentucky began the Equine Initiative Project. This project was started by the UK College of Agriculture to develop their Equine Science program into a nationally outstanding program. In 2007, the Maine Chance Farm was being revamped into a Collegiate Equestrian mecha-center, which was expected to feature a breeding program, equestrian center, and equine disease and research center.

Spindletop is a rural neighborhood north of Lexington, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are I-75 to the west and Berea Road to the south and east. It is located just south of the Kentucky Horse Park. It is named for Spindletop hall, a historic mansion once owned by Miles Franklin Yount, which is located within the neighborhood.

The Carriage Association of America (CAA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the history and traditions of carriage driving, and the preservation and restoration of horse-drawn carriages and sleighs. It is headquartered at the Kentucky Horse Park along with its sister organization, the Carriage Museum of America (CMA).

Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, international equestrian competition venue, and an educational theme park opened in 1978 in Lexington, Kentucky. It is located off Kentucky State Highway 1973 (Iron Works Pike) and Interstate 75, at Exit 120, in northern Fayette County in the United States. The equestrian facility is a 1,224-acre (495 ha) park dedicated to "man's relationship with the horse." Open to the public, the park has a twice daily Horses of the World Show, showcasing both common and rare horses from around the globe. The horses are ridden in authentic costume. Each year the park is host to a number of special events and horse shows. Additionally, the park contains the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, which has a permanent collection of horse history and memorabilia, along with a rotating historical collection focused on a particular theme. Past themes include A Gift from the Desert (Arabia), Imperial China, and All the Queen's Horses (Britain). Beginning with the 1979 arrival of Forego, one of the leading handicap horses of the 1970s, the Kentucky Horse Park has been home to some of the world's greatest competition horses, including John Henry, Horse of the Decade for the 1980s and the top money-winning Thoroughbred gelding in racing history. With the exception of a few months in 1986, John Henry lived at the park from 1985 until his death in 2007, alongside other racing greats such as Forego and his fellow 1970s champion Bold Forbes, and more recent residents Cigar, voted Horse of the Decade for the 1990s, and Da Hoss, the first horse to win Breeders' Cup races in non-consecutive years. In late 2008, the champions Alysheba and Funny Cide became residents, but Alysheba died at the park in March 2009. 1994 Kentucky Derby winner, Go For Gin, became a resident of the barn in 2011, while Cigar died at the park in 2014. Besides Thoroughbred horses, Standardbred pacing greats such as Staying Together and Western Dreamer, Cam Fella (deceased) and Rambling Willie (deceased), and Standardbred trotting champion Mr. Muscleman have made the Kentucky Horse Park their home, as well as 5-gaited American Saddlebred geldings CH Gypsy Supreme, CH Imperator and CH Sky Watch (all deceased).

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF or US Equestrian) is the national governing body for most equestrian sports in the United States. US Equestrian can trace its history back to January 20, 1917 when the Association of American Horse Shows was started. This organization later became the American Horse Shows Association (AHSA). In 2001, the organization became USA Equestrian (USAE) and, in 2003 it merged with the United States Equestrian Team (USET) to form the current organization of the United States Equestrian Federation. In 2017, USEF rebranded as US Equestrian. In 2019, USEF outsourced its laboratory services to the University of Kentucky. Competitions governed by US Equestrian include dressage, driving, endurance riding, eventing, hunt seat equitation, hunter, jumper, para-equestrian, polo, roadster, saddle seat equitation, vaulting, and western riding competition including equitation, western pleasure, reining, trail, western dressage, and related events. The organization also governs breed shows held in the United States for the Andalusian, Lusitano, Arabian, Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian, Connemara, Friesian, Hackney, Morgan, American Saddlebred, National Show Horse, Paso Fino, Shetland, and Welsh breeds. US Equestrian keeps track of yearly points accumulated at individual horse shows throughout the year and gives awards based on these points at the end of the year. Horse shows governed under the USEF are given an AA, A, B, or C rating. Shows with an AA rating are the most prestigious and often offer the most prize money, whereas shows with a C rating are more local, usually awarding less prize money. Competitions recognized by the USEF must follow its rules and bylaws. The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (abbreviated ASHBA) is a breed registry for the American Saddlebred horse. Founded in 1891, it is headquartered at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Kentucky Horse Park Arboretum is a newly certified arboretum located on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park, 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Kentucky, United States. An admission fee is charged for the Horse Park. Guided tours of the arboretum are given at 3:00 p.m. on the last Sunday of each month, but self-guided tours may be taken at any time. Although the formal arboretum was established in 2004, many of its trees were by then well-established, with some dating to the 18th century. It now contains more than 1,000 trees representing over 75 species. Approximately half are native to Kentucky; the others are indigenous to Europe and Asia. Markers identify the trees by both common and scientific names.

Castleton Lyons near Lexington, Kentucky, is an American horse-racing stable and breeding business best known by the name Castleton Farm.

Hurricane Hall was built in the 1790s in Fayette County, Kentucky by David Laughed on the Lexington-Georgetown Pike in what is now a part of Lexington. Architecture historian Clay Lancaster describes it as "the most engaging residence in Fayette County". The home is included in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Fayette County, Kentucky.It was purchased in 1803 by Colonel Roger Quarles. Quarles with his wife, Jane Rodes Thomson Quarles and their two children came from Virginia. Colonel Quarles was a gentleman farmer. The Fayette County Kentucky tax list in 1826 listed 1,563 acres (633 ha), 30 slaves, 33 horses and 1 pleasure carriage.The front door opens into a 15-foot-wide hall (4.6 m). Notable decorative features were the French scenic wallpaper in the parlor and hallway, installed to commemorate the wedding of the Quarles' daughter, Sarah Anna Eliza Quarles to William Z. Thomson in 1817. The wallpaper was later taken down, with snippets of the wallpaper becoming framed and hung in the parlor. Quarles Grandson, Patrick Henry Thomson inherited the house in 1856. P. H. Thomson maintained a private school on the estate. The Thomsons had 12 children, and it is said the children ran through the house like a hurricane. Hence, the name Hurricane Hall.The home remained in the Quarles-Thomson family until 1962. It is now a thoroughbred breeding operation within what is now Lexington.

The Alltech Arena is a 5,517-seat multi-purpose arena in Lexington, Kentucky. The facility, named for the title sponsor Alltech, opened on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park in July 2009. It was originally constructed for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games. The arena is owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is managed by the Kentucky Horse Park. The arena is currently home to KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament, the Alltech National Horse Show, and numerous equestrian related events.
