The Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) comprises two distinct Native American tribes—the Pima (O'odham language: Onk Akimel O'odham, meaning "Salt River People") and the Maricopa (Maricopa language: Xalychidom Piipaash, meaning "people who live toward the water")—many of whom were originally part of the Halchidhoma (Xalchidom) tribe. The community was permanently created by an Executive Order of US President Rutherford Birchard Hayes on June 14th, 1879. The community area includes 53,600 acres (217 km2), of which 19,000 remain a natural preserve. As of 2022, the total population is 7,386. The community is a federally recognized tribe located in Arizona. The community borders the Arizona cities of Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, and Fountain Hills. The Great Seal of the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community is a representation of I'itoi, commonly referred to as the Man in the Maze.

Falcon Field (IATA: MSC, ICAO: KFFZ, FAA LID: FFZ) is in an airport located in Maricopa County, Arizona. It was originally built 6 miles (5.2 nmi; 9.7 km) northeast of Mesa, which owns it. However, it is now within city limits. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021 categorized it as a reliever airport. Scheduled service to Bullhead City on Western Express Air ended in January 2007.Most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, but Falcon Field is FFZ to the FAA and MSC to the IATA.

The Champlin Fighter Museum was an aircraft museum located at Mesa, Arizona. It specialized in airworthy World War I and World War II fighters. After 22 years of operation, the Museum was closed on May 26, 2003, and its collection was moved to the Museum of Flight at Seattle's Boeing Field.It also published books related to aviation, such as Henry Sakaida's 1985 book Winged Samurai: Saburo Sakai and the Zero Fighter Pilots.

The Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum, a.k.a. Airbase Arizona Aircraft Museum, was established in 1978, in Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. It is the 10th unit of the Commemorative Air Force and the home of one of the largest Commemorative Air Force units in the world. On exhibit are World War II artifacts, helicopters and classic American and foreign combat planes, many of which are the last remaining warbirds of their kinds.

CAE Phoenix (formerly CAE Oxford Aviation Academy Phoenix, CAE Global Academy Phoenix and Sabena Airline Training Center) (CAE SATC) is an aviation school owned by CAE and located in Mesa at Falcon Field Airport. A former subsidiary of Sabena Flight Academy, the school has previously trained students including those of Air Algérie, SFA, Nationale Luchtvaartschool (NLS), Turkish Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, EVA Air, British Airways, Southwest Airlines, Japan Airlines, jetBlue, American Airlines, Emirates, EasyJet, CityJet, IndiGo, Aeromexico and AirAsia.

Apache Wells is the name of both fictional and real locations in southern Arizona.

Mountain View High School is a high school in Mesa, Arizona. It was established in 1976, the third public high school in Mesa. It is known for its numerous athletic and academic accomplishments. The school's mascot is a Toro. Known as the Campus of Champions. The Toro Spiritline has won many state and national titles. In the 1984–85 school year, it was honored as a Blue Ribbon school.Mountain View was named a silver medal school by U.S. News & World Report.

Salt River Elementary School, formerly known as Salt River Indian Day School, is a tribal elementary school located on the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community reservation in unincorporated Maricopa County, Arizona. It is affiliated with the Bureau of Indian Education. It covers elementary grades.

The Mesa Historical Museum is a historical museum in Mesa, Arizona, United States. It was opened in 1987 by the Mesa Historical Society to preserve the history of Mesa, Arizona. The museum's exhibits include a comprehensive history of Mesa, a replica of an early adobe one-room schoolhouse, as well as additional galleries of changing exhibits. The museum also maintains a large collection of historic agricultural equipment. The museum buildings are in fact the museum's largest artifacts. The main museum building was built in 1913-1914 for use as the Lehi School in what was then Lehi, Arizona. The auditorium was built in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project. The two-building complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 as the "Lehi School".In 2008, the museum began developing a popular exhibit about Spring Training (baseball) in Arizona, called "Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience." The exhibition has since expanded to locations throughout Maricopa County.

Mount McDowell (O'odham: S-wegĭ Doʼag, Yavapai: Wi:kawatha), more commonly referred to as Red Mountain, is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation, just north of Mesa, Arizona. It is named after General Irvin McDowell, a Union officer in the Civil War. Its elevation is 2,832 feet (863 m). It is not the same landmark as the McDowell Peak, which is 11 miles (18 km) away to the northwest. Mount McDowell is often called "Red Mountain" or "FireRock", due to its composition of sandstone conglomerate which gives it a distinctive red color that glows during sunset. The deep cleft on its western side (visible in the image at right) is known as "Gunsight" because of its resemblance to the narrow slot in a fort used for firing at attackers.The mountain is very photogenic but it's difficult to photograph up close. The mountain is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation, and has been declared off-limits to hikers, climbers and photographers since the early 1980s, due to vandalism. The eastern side, along Power Road/Bush Highway, has areas where you can pull off the road, and there's a picnic area just north of Granite Reef Dam (Tonto Pass required). The western side of the mountain is along SR 87 (Beeline Highway), which is a busy four-lane road with narrow shoulders. There are several blocked roads onto the Salt River Indian Reservation, where you can pull off for a minute if the traffic is light.

Salt River High School (SRHS) was a high school on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near Scottsdale, Arizona. It was operated by that tribe's Education Department along with an early education/Head Start facility, elementary school, alternative school and higher education department. The high school opened in August 2004 with an award-winning campus and grounds. Salt River High School was located on a federally recognized Native American reservation, which provided students and families opportunities to learn and partake in the rich histories and contemporary experiences of both the O'Odham (Pima) and Piipaash (Maricopa) people who reside within and/or are members of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Salt River High School was a member of the Canyon Athletic Association. This school closed its doors sometime in 2021.

KHOT-FM (105.9 MHz) is a commercial radio station licensed to Paradise Valley, Arizona, and serving the Phoenix metropolitan area. It airs a Regional Mexican radio format, and is owned by TelevisaUnivision, calling itself "Que Buena 105.9 y 105.1." KHOT-FM has an effective radiated power of 36,000 watts. It also transmits on a 7,000-watt booster station at 105.9 in Glendale. Programming is simulcast on KHOV-FM at 105.1 MHz in Wickenburg.
