Plaisance, Quebec

Plaisance National Park is a provincial park located near Plaisance in the province of Quebec, Canada. The park was established on March 22, 2002 and covers an area of 28.3 square kilometres (10.9 sq mi).

The Petite-Nation River is a river in western Quebec, Canada, that flows from the Laurentian Mountains to empty into the Ottawa River near Plaisance, Quebec. The river is 97 kilometres (60 mi) in length. This river's French name refers to the Algonquin people that inhabited this region, the Weskarini, which means "people of the little nation". The valley of the Petite-Nation was part of the Seigneury de la Petite-Nation, originally owned by the Lord François de Laval, the first archbishop of New France. Joseph Papineau acquires it from Séminaire de Québec in two parts, in 1801 and 1803. Joseph Papineau sold the seigneury to his son, Louis-Joseph Papineau, in 1817. Denis-Benjamin, Joseph's second son, is the lord of the seigneury. In 1929, the Papineau domain was sold off and became the Seigniory Club, which in turn later was acquired by Canadian Pacific hotels, now known as Fairmont. Louis-Joseph Papineau built a sawmill on the river at the Chutes du Diables Falls. A village, named North Nation Mills was part of the seigneury owned by Louis-Joseph Papineau. He was a former rebel, in Lower Canada, who was operating the mill at the time and developed at this site. Pine logs were floating down the river to the mill. The owners of the mill changed a few times: from the Papineau family to the Cooke family, and then the Gilmour family, and finally to the Edwards and the McClarens. The village was demolished in 1920 after the sawmill was shut down. The area near the river's mouth was flooded by a Hydro-Québec dam on the Ottawa River. A Quebec park is located in this area. There is also the South Nation River in Ontario which empties into the Ottawa River.

The South Nation River is a river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It springs from forests and marshes located north of Brockville, and it flows 175 kilometres (109 mi) northeast to empty into the Ottawa River north of Plantagenet. Its watershed covers 3,900 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi). This river is called the "South Nation River" to distinguish it from a river in Quebec north of the Ottawa River called the Petite-Nation River or rivière Petite-Nation. The names of both rivers are derived from the French name for the native people of this area, the Weskarini. The area surrounding the river, originally covered with white pine, is now mainly used for agriculture. The river drains an almost flat plain, and its lack of gradient makes it prone to flooding. Dams and other water control measures have been introduced to help reduce the impact of seasonal flooding in the watershed. In some areas, the river flows through Leda clays which can be very unstable. Several landslides have occurred over the past century, including a major one near the former town of Lemieux on June 20, 1993. Approximately 3 million cubic metres (110,000,000 cu ft) of mud and clay slid into the river valley, blocking the river's flow for three days. Four kilometers of river to the south of Spencerville is good for canoeing during most water conditions. There is a public boat launch at the old mill.

The Papanack Park Zoo is a small zoo in Wendover, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 1994 and came under new ownership in 2014 with the intention of acting as a conservation park. It has 36 different species, including snow monkeys, cougars, snow leopard and white lion cubs. These cubs are the offspring of the zoo's African lions although they did not stay white as they grew. It also has four white Bengal tigers including a "snowball" tiger named Venus. The zoo is approximately a 25-minute drive from Canada's capital, Ottawa. A number of animals at the zoo have been shown in the children's documentary, Zoboomafoo, with Chris Kratt and Martin Kratt. An African lion named Simba was a model for production sketches of the main character used in Disney's The Lion King. In 2016, a lion named Zeus escaped from the zoo due to human error. It was shot and killed because of concerns for public safety. In 2016, undercover footage was released by Animal Justice depicting acts of animal cruelty including a zoo manager describing how he trained a lion cub by repeatedly hitting the baby animal in the face. It also includes the zoo's management stating that several Père David's deers (extinct in the wild) broke their necks after running into the fence of their enclosure. In 2021, a kangaroo named Willow escaped her enclosure before being found by the side of the road injured. The kangaroo died.

Lochaber is a township municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, located within the Papineau Regional County Municipality. The township had a population of 415 in the 2016 Canadian Census.

Cambridge Township was a township in Ontario, Canada. Along with Clarence Township, Russell Township and Cumberland Township, Cambridge Township was one of the four townships of Russell County. It was created in 1800. It existed for 198 years before becoming part of The Nation Municipality in 1998, during the Eastern Ontario municipal fusions. Major communities in what was Cambridge Township are Limoges and St. Albert. Other communities include Benoit, Gagnon, Longtinville, Martels Corners and Mayerville. According to the Canada 2001 Census: Population: 6,628 1996-2001 Population Change (%): 3.5 Total Private Dwellings: 2,204 Population Density: 25.9 people per square kilometre. Land Area: 255.76 square kilometres.

Thurso is a city in Papineau Regional County Municipality in the Outaouais region of western Quebec, Canada. It is located opposite Clarence, Ontario on the Ottawa River, and is within Canada's National Capital Region. Its population was 3,084 as of the 2021 Canadian Census.

Pendleton Airport (TC LID: CNF3) is located 3 nautical miles (5.6 km; 3.5 mi) northwest of Pendleton, Ontario, Canada, east of Ottawa. The airfield is currently operated by the Gatineau Gliding Club.

Clarence-Rockland is a city in Eastern Ontario, Canada, in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell on the Ottawa River. Clarence-Rockland is located immediately to the east of Ottawa and is considered part of the Prescott and Russell County. The city was formed on January 1, 1998, through the amalgamation of the Town of Rockland with Clarence Township. Despite its recent formation, a community has been established in the region since the early 1840s.

Rockland is a bilingual community located about 40 km (25 mi) east of downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, part of the city of Clarence-Rockland. Rockland has a population of 26,505 (2021). It is home to a large part of the francophone community in Eastern Ontario along with the towns situated to the east and the Ottawa suburb of Orleans to the west.

Rockland District High School (other common names are RDHS and RD) is a public intermediate and secondary school in Clarence-Rockland, Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Upper Canada District School Board. The school has offered secondary grades 9-12 since opening, and added intermediate grades 7–8 in the 2012–2013 school year. Two new classrooms were built in the summer of 2012 on the second floor to accommodate the additional grades. The student population is 405 as of August 2017.
