The Dutchess Rail Trail is a 13-mile (21 km) rail trail that stretches from the former Hopewell Junction train depot, north to the Poughkeepsie entrance of the Walkway over the Hudson. It's a shared use rail trail open for pedestrians and bicyclers. The Dutchess Rail Trail forms part of the Empire State Trail.Construction was initially set to begin in July 2007. It was built in five phases. The final stage from Morgan lake in the Town of Poughkeepsie to the Walkway over the Hudson was completed in July 2013.Conrail's Maybrook Line was double tracked, allowing for a simultaneous paved and packed dirt trail. In January 2012, a 1-mile stretch of property was purchased from CSX Transportation. An effort was made to develop this stretch of property in 2013, resulting in connections with Walkway Over the Hudson and the Hudson Valley Rail Trail.The railroad line was built in 1892 by the Central New England Railway; it was severed by a fire on the Poughkeepsie Bridge on May 8, 1974. Dutchess County originally purchased the Maybrook Line to build a limited access highway to Interstate 84 but did not want to pay the monetary and environmental costs of connecting from Hopewell Junction to I-84. This trail, the Maybrook Trailway, was later completed in 2020 as part of the Empire State Trail project.

Elias Titus House is a historic home located at Red Oaks Mill in Dutchess County, New York. It was built in 1840 and originally consisted of a 2+1⁄2-story, gable-roofed main block and 1+1⁄2-story kitchen wing. The main block is three bays wide and four bays deep. It features a temple front elevation in the Greek Revival style. It is a tetrastyle portico supported by fluted Ionic order columns.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Red Oaks Mill is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Dutchess County, in the U.S. state of New York. It lies within the limits of the towns of Poughkeepsie and LaGrange. The population was 3,613 at the 2010 census.Red Oaks Mill is southeast of the city of Poughkeepsie and can be considered a suburb of the city. It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, New York-New Jersey-Connecticut-Pennsylvania Combined Statistical Area.

Peter and Karen McComb House is a historic home located at Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York. It was designed by architect Marcel Breuer and built in 1950–1951. The original section is a small one- to two-story, "T"-shaped, International style frame dwelling on a concrete foundation. Three additions were constructed in 1962, 1988, and 1994. It is built into its site atop a steep rock ridge and features large-scale rectangular window panels.: 5–6 It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Class of 1951 Observatory is located near the eastern edge of the town of Poughkeepsie, New York, on Vassar College's campus. The observatory was built in 1997 and sponsored by the Vassar class of 1951 who donated funds for its construction on the occasion of their forty-fifth reunion. The new observatory replaced the Maria Mitchell Observatory, the first building completed on the college's campus. Roth and Moore Architects designed the new building which consists of three distinct segments: a central connecting area with a half round roof oriented southward, and two domes (one east and one west) that house the telescopes. The observatory facility houses two main telescopes: one 20-inch reflector used primarily for public outreach, and a 32-inch reflector used for teaching and research. It also houses a five-inch solar telescope and an eight-inch refracting telescope.The 32-inch telescope is tied with the Austin-Fellows telescope of the Stull Observatory at Alfred University for being the 2nd-largest optical telescope in the state of New York, the largest being the 40-inch reflector at SUNY Oneonta College Observatory.On its exterior the observatory is covered in aluminum sheathing, making the structure less of a heat polluter than its predecessor whose masonry walls absorbed a lot of daytime solar heat. The building's interior is additionally well insulated to give off as little thermal pollution as possible. The Class of 1951 Observatory also houses classrooms and offices which are furnished with laminated wood arches.On Wednesday nights from 9:00-11:00 pm during the school year, visitors from the community are welcome at the observatory for open nights, weather permitting.

Rombout House is a historic home located at Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York. It was built about 1854 on land that had been part of the original British royal Rombout Patent of 1685 and is a 2+1⁄2-story, three-bay-wide, Hudson River Bracketed architectural style dwelling. It sits on a raised basement and features a central pavilion. It has been owned by Vassar College since 1915.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Fonteyn Kill (alternatively written Fonteynkill and also known as Fountain Kill and Mill Cove Brook) is a 1.5-kilometer-long (0.93 mi) urban stream (or kill) flowing through Dutchess County, New York, onto the campus of Vassar College, and into the Casperkill. The stream was first on land inhabited by the native Wappinger band before being transferred to the Dutch and then the British. A mill was built along the kill by 1714 and the stream's presence influenced Matthew Vassar's decision to locate his college in the area. The artificial Vassar Lake lies midway down the Fonteyn Kill and was once used for ice skating and boating. While historically pure, the stream now suffers from urban stream syndrome, partially due to the amount of impervious surfaces within its watershed. Flowing over glacial till, the stream's bed is rich in cobbles and the kill supports populations of benthic macroinvertebrates, trees, shrubs, fish, birds, snapping turtles, and frogs. As of 2016, a Vassar–Cornell University program is monitoring the water quality of the Fonteyn Kill.

The Casperkill (also known as Jan Casper's Kill and shown on federal maps as Casper Creek) is a creek in both the town and city of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York. It flows 11.6 miles (18.7 km) from Peach Hill Park to the Hudson River. Combined with its only major tributary, the Fonteyn Kill, it forms a 12 sq mi (31 km2) subwatershed. It lies entirely within the British royal grant of 1685 known as the Rombout Patent.
