Hope Cove Life Boat

Hope Cove is a small seaside village within the civil parish of South Huish in South Hams District, Devon, England. It is located 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Salcombe and 5 miles (8.0 km) south west of Kingsbridge. It has two beaches, and is sheltered by the headland of Bolt Tail.

SS Jebba was a steamship that was built in Middlesbrough in 1896 and wrecked on the south coast of Devon in 1907. She was launched as Albertville for the Compagnie Belge-Maritime du Congo (CBMC), and was renamed Jebba when Elder, Dempster & Co acquired her in 1898. She was the first of four CBMC ships to be called Albertville, and the first of two Elder, Dempster ships to be called Jebba.

Bolt Tail is a headland in Devon, England, immediately to the southwest of Hope Cove in the South Hams district, at grid reference SX670397. Bolt Tail is the site of an Iron Age promontory fort, although little evidence now remains of this structure; it occupied a classic promontory defended from inland by a linear earthwork at some 60 metres above sea level. Bolt Tail marks the western end of a coastal walk through National Trust land to Salcombe, via Bolberry Down and Bolt Head at the mouth of the Salcombe Estuary. It offers views to Bantham Beach and Burgh Island. On a day with good visibility it is possible to see far down the coast into Cornwall, as far as Dodman Point. Under very exceptional atmospheric conditions the Lizard Point in Cornwall is visible from Bolt Tail. The SS Jebba ran aground near here in 1907.Nearby, a similar fate had befallen the 90-gun ship-of-the-line HMS Ramillies in February 1760.

SS Louis Sheid was a 6,057 ton Belgian steamer that ran aground off Devon after escaping U-47 following the rescue of the captain and crew of the freighter MV Tajandoen on 7 December 1939.Louis Shied measured 420 feet (130 m) long with a beam of 55 feet (17 m). She was built by Nord Werft of Bremerhaven under the name Ultor and renamed Kendal Castle prior to being badged Louis Sheid for the Belgian National Shipping Line. Louis Sheid sits in 8 metres (26 ft) of water off Leas Foot beach at Thurlestone at 50°15.658′N 3°51.831′W. Two Thirds Blue Sub-Aqua Club (SAA 912) adopted the wreck under the scheme run by the Nautical Archaeology Society.

Thurlestone is a village located 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Kingsbridge in the South Hams district in south Devon, England. There is an electoral ward in the same name. The population at the 2011 census was 1,886.The village takes its name from Thurlestone Rock, the so-called "thirled stone", an arch-shaped rock formation just offshore in Thurlestone Bay. Thurl, or Thirl being an Anglo-Saxon word meaning hole. The village's All Saints church is built of the dark grey local slate. The chancel is early 13th century; the remainder of the church 15th and 16th century.

South Milton Ley (grid reference SX685422) is a 162,000 square metres (40 acres) wetland in the South Hams, Devon, England. It was notified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1976. Part of the site is managed as a nature reserve by the Devon Birdwatching and Preservation Society.

Bantham is a coastal village in south Devon, England. It is in the South Hams district and lies on the estuary of the River Avon a quarter of a mile from the sea at Bigbury Bay.

Bolberry Down is a clifftop area on the coast of Devon, England. The headland of Bolt Tail lies to the west and Bolt Head and the town of Salcombe to the east. It is one of the longest coastal areas owned by the National Trust and lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The down provides views across the English Channel. Bolberry Down was the site of a Decca Navigator station in the SOUTH WEST BRITISH 1B chain which operated from 1952 until 31 March 2000, covering the south-west approaches. The visible sign of this system were three 150ft tubular masts and these were located to the east of the access road to Bolberry Down, together with the former bungalows for the staff. One mast remains in use today for other purposes.

Galmpton is a small hamlet near Thurlestone, Devon, England. It is in the South Hams district and is five miles west of Salcombe. In 1870-72 Galmpton had a population of 176 as recorded in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales. Galmpton was recorded in the Domesday Book as Walementone/Walenimtona

St Andrew's Church is a ruined church in South Huish, South Hams, Devon, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches.

South Huish is a village and civil parish about 4 miles south west of Kingsbridge, in the South Hams district, in the county of Devon, England. The parish includes Galmpton and Hope Cove. According to the 2011 census the parish had a population of 473, the parish had an estimated population of 436 in 2017. The parish touches West Alvington, South Milton and Malborough. The parish is in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The River Avon, also known as the River Aune, is a river in the county of Devon in the southwest of England. It rises in the southern half of Dartmoor National Park in an area of bog to the west of Ryder's Hill. Close to where the river leaves Dartmoor a dam was built in 1957 to form the Avon reservoir (see Dartmoor reservoirs). After leaving the moor it passes through South Brent and then Avonwick and Aveton Gifford and flows into the sea at Bigbury-on-Sea. Near Loddiswell the valley flows through Fosse Copse a 1.88 hectares (4.65 acres) woodland owned and managed by the Woodland Trust.The estuary lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is part of the South Devon Heritage Coast.From 1893 until its closure in 1963, the Kingsbridge branch line railway line ran along the valley of the Avon between Kingsbridge and South Brent.
