The South Berwick Village Historic District encompasses the historic village center of South Berwick, Maine. First settled in the 1640s, the village developed along a major route between Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine in the early 19th century. The village has about 150 years of architecture reflective of this history, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

South Berwick is a census-designated place (CDP) and the primary village in the town of South Berwick, York County, Maine, United States. It is in southwestern York County, in the northwest corner of the town of South Berwick. It is bordered to the north by the town of Berwick, and to the southwest, across the Salmon Falls River, by the town of Rollinsford, New Hampshire. Maine State Route 4 passes through the center of the village, leading north-northeast 17 miles (27 km) to Sanford, and southwest across the Salmon Falls River, where New Hampshire Route 4 continues 4 miles (6 km) to the city of Dover. State Route 236 leads northwest four miles to Berwick village and south 12 miles (19 km) to Kittery. South Berwick was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

South Berwick is a town in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 7,467 at the 2020 census. South Berwick is home to Berwick Academy, a private, co-educational university-preparatory day school founded in 1791. The town was set off from Berwick in 1814, followed by North Berwick in 1831. It is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. The primary village in the town is the South Berwick census-designated place.

Berwick Academy is a college preparatory school located in South Berwick, Maine. Founded in 1791, it is the oldest educational institution in Maine and one of the oldest private schools in North America. The school sits on an 80-acre, 11-building campus on a hill overlooking the town, near the border between Maine and New Hampshire. Approximately 565 students in grades Pre-K through 12 (and post-grad) attend this coeducational day and boarding school. The majority of students commute to Berwick from approximately 60 communities in the surrounding regions of southern Maine, southeastern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. There are also several international residential students.

The Sarah Orne Jewett House is a historic house museum at 5 Portland Street in South Berwick, Maine, United States. The house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991 for its lifelong association with the American author Sarah Orne Jewett (1849–1909), whose influential work exemplified regional writing of the late 19th century. The house, built in 1774, is a high-quality example of late Georgian architecture. It is now owned by Historic New England, and is open for tours every weekend between June and October, and two Saturdays per month the rest of the year.

The Jewett-Eastman House is a historic house at 37 Portland Street in the center of South Berwick, Maine. Built about 1850, it is a fine local example of Greek Revival architecture. It is most notable for its association with the Jewett family, which included a prominent local businessman and a doctor, as well as the writer Sarah Orne Jewett, who was raised in this house. It served the town for a time as its public library, and is now owned by Historic New England, serving as a gallery space and as the visitors center for the adjacent Sarah Orne Jewett House.

The Great Works River is a 30.6-mile-long (49.2 km) river in southwestern Maine in the United States. It rises in central York County and flows generally south past North Berwick and joins the tidal part of the Salmon Falls River at South Berwick. The native Newichawannock band of Abenaki called it the Asbenbedick. In July 1634, William Chadbourne, James Wall and John Goddard arrived from England aboard the ship Pied Cow with a commission to build a sawmill and gristmill at the river's Assabumbadoc Falls. The sawmill they built, thought to be the first over-shot water-powered site in America, was located in the "Rocky Gorge" below today's Brattle Street bridge. Their sawmill was rebuilt with up to 20 saws on what was then the "Little River" in 1651 by Richard Leader, an engineer granted exclusive right to the water power. It was thereafter called the "Great mill workes," from which the Great Works River derives its present name.

The Salmon Falls Mill Historic District encompasses a historic mill complex on Front Street in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. The complex includes four major structures and seven smaller ones, on about 14 acres (5.7 ha) of land along the Salmon Falls River. They were built between about 1840 and the mid-1860s, and have an unusual architectural unity, for additions made to the buildings were done with attention to matching design elements from the existing structures. The Number 2 Mill, built in 1848, was an early location where a turbine was used instead of a waterwheel to provide power to the mill machinery. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Rollinsford is a town in Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,597 at the 2020 census. The main village in town was once known as "Salmon Falls Village".

The Rollinsford Grade School is a historic school building at 487 Locust Street in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. Opened in 1937, and still in use as an elementary school, it was the first school building commissioned by the prominent Durham firm Huddleston & Hersey, whose principal, Eric T. Huddleston, designed many buildings for the University of New Hampshire as the first campus architect. The grounds of the school are also notable as the burial site of Obo II, considered the father of the American Cocker Spaniel breed of dog. The property was listed with statewide significance on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Rollinsford Town Hall is located at 667 Main Street in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. The two-story wood-frame building was designed by New Hampshire architect Alvah T. Ramsdell, and built in 1893 to house a variety of municipal services, and an auditorium. The building, still housing municipal offices, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Powderhouse Hill is a community ski area owned by the Town of South Berwick, Maine and operated by the all-volunteer Powderhouse Ski Club. It consist of one rope tow, and three trails: 2 intermediate (66%) and 1 beginner (34%). Powderhouse Hill has no snowmaking thus its operation relies completely on natural snow.
