RAF Oakley

Worminghall is a village and civil parish in the Buckinghamshire district of the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire, England. The village is beside a brook that forms most of the eastern boundary of the parish. The brook joins the River Thame, which forms the southernmost part of the eastern boundary. The western boundary of the parish also forms part of the county boundary with Oxfordshire. The village is about 4+1⁄2 miles (7 km) west of the Oxfordshire market town of Thame. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 534.

Waterperry with Thomley is a civil parish in the South Oxfordshire district, in the county of Oxfordshire, England. It includes the village of Waterperry (Ordnance Survey grid reference SP626066) and the abandoned former village of Thomley (OS Grid ref. SP629091). It had a population of 257 recorded in the United Kingdom Census 2011. The area is bisected by the M40 motorway, it is in the valley of the Thame and centred approximately 7 miles (11 km) east of the city of Oxford. The parish was formed on 1 April 1994 from "Waterperry" and "Thomley".

Oakley is a village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England. It has an area of 2,206 acres (893 ha) and includes about 400 households. The 2011 Census recorded the population as 1,007.At one time it was thought Oakley held a rare (and possibly unique) double distinction, in that a Victoria Cross recipient, Edward Brooks, and a Medal of Honor recipient, James J. Pym, were both born in the village. However, the latter, a namesake of a contemporary James Pym from Oakley, has been found to be from Garsington, a village 10 miles (16 km) away in Oxfordshire. In 1963 Oakley was centre of national and international news, when Leatherslade Farm, near Oakley, was used as a hideout by the criminal gang involved in the Great Train Robbery.

Little London is a hamlet consisting of approximately 70 houses located immediately east of the village of Oakley in Buckinghamshire and about 5.5 miles (9 km) northwest of the market town of Thame in neighbouring Oxfordshire. Little London Green is the largest area of common land in the parish of Oakley.

Ickford is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority area of Buckinghamshire, England. It is on the boundary with Oxfordshire, about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of the market town of Thame. The River Thame forms both the southern boundary of the parish and Ickford's part of the county boundary with Oxfordshire. A stream that is a tributary of the Thame bounds the parish to the west and north.

Waterstock is a village and civil parish on the River Thame about 4.5 miles (7 km) west of the market town of Thame in Oxfordshire. The parish is bounded to the north and west by the river, to the south largely by the A418 main road, and to the east largely by the minor road between Tiddington and Ickford Bridge across the Thame. On the north side of the parish, the river forms the county boundary with Buckinghamshire as well as the parish boundary with Ickford and Worminghall. Waterstock village is on a minor road north of the A418 and is surrounded by open farming land. In the village are about 50 houses and a farm along one main street.

Hormer was an ancient hundred of Berkshire, England. It consisted of the area immediately west of Oxford within the bend of the River Thames, all of which was transferred to Oxfordshire on 1 April 1974 in accordance with the Local Government Act 1972. It included the ancient parishes of Abingdon Besselsleigh Cumnor North Hinksey South Hinksey Radley Seacourt Sunningwell Wootton Wytham St. Helen (part)The hundred also included the almost uninhabited extra-parochial area of Bagley Wood, which became a civil parish in 1858 and was joined to Radley in 1900.The name of the hundred is derived from what was presumably its original meeting place, an unidentified Horningamere "pool of the Hornings". The Hornings were the people who lived in the "horn", the angle of land in Berkshire enclosed by the bend of the Thames.The hundred came into existence before the time of the Domesday Book in 1086, when it had the same area except for the parish of Besselsleigh, which joined the hundred by 1321. In 1086 the entire hundred belonged to Abingdon Abbey. The court of the hundred met at Bagley Wood, and later at Cumnor.

Waterperry Gardens are gardens with a museum in the village of Waterperry, near Wheatley, east of Oxford in Oxfordshire, England.

Waterperry is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Waterperry with Thomley, in the South Oxfordshire district, in Oxfordshire and close to the county boundary with Buckinghamshire, England. It is beside the River Thame, about 7 miles (11 km) east of Oxford. The Church of England parish church of Saint Mary the Virgin is partly Saxon and has notable medieval stained glass, sculptural memorials, Georgian box pews and memorial brasses. In 1961 the parish had a population of 161. On 1 April 1994 the parish was abolished and merged with Thomley to form "Waterperry with Thomley".The 2011 Census combined data for the village with Waterstock, due to the small population of the village.Waterperry House is a 17th-century mansion, remodelled early in the 18th century for Sir John Curson and again around 1820. It is now a house of seven bays and three storeys with a balustraded parapet and Ionic porch.The house has extensive grounds, and until 1971 housed the Waterperry School of Horticulture under Beatrix Havergal. Since 1971 the house has been owned and used as a country retreat by the School of Economic Science. The gardens are now a horticultural business and visitor destination, Waterperry Gardens. The 8 acres (3 ha) of gardens include rose and alpine gardens, a formal knot garden, trained fruit and nursery beds and a riverside walk. The grounds also have nurseries, orchards, plant centre and teashop. Gardening courses are still taught here. The grounds host the annual Art in Action festival of art and craft each July.

Shabbington Woods Complex is a 305.6-hectare (755-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest ((SSSI) between Horton-cum-Studley and Worminghall in Buckinghamshire. It comprises Shabbington Wood, Bernwood Forest, Hell Coppice, Oakley Wood and York's Wood. Shabbington Wood is owned by the Forestry Commission, and a small area of 7.5 hectares called Bernwood Meadows is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.The site is the largest remnant of the former Royal Forest of Bernwood. Other remnants are SSSIs in Oxfordshire. In this site only a small area of ancient woodland survives, and the main interest is the rich insect fauna. There are also two unimproved meadows, bounded by mature hedges, and several ponds. Over forty species of butterfly have been recorded, including the rare Duke of Burgundy.

Draycot is a hamlet on the River Thame, in the civil parish of Tiddington-with-Albury, in the South Oxfordshire district, in the county of Oxfordshire, England. It is situated approximately 4½ miles to the west of Thame. In 1881 it had a population of 17.The name derives from Old English dræg (a slipway or drag, a sledge, or a dray), with cot (a cottage or shelter).After the Norman Conquest the lord of the manor was Richard, son of Rainfrid de Bretteville whilst Milo of Wallingford was tenant-in-chief. In 1086, the Domesday Book recorded Draycot as having seven households (five villager and two slave). There were two ploughlands, one lord's plough team, one men's plough team, and a ten acre meadow.In 1886 the hamlet was incorporated into Waterstock civil parish, and subsequently in 1954 transferred to Tiddington-with-Albury, reducing Waterstock to 903 acres.

Honeyburge is a hamlet in the civil parish of Boarstall in Buckinghamshire, England. The hamlet is on Dane's Brook next to Boarstall Wood. Honeyburge is less than 0.5 miles (800 m) south of Boarstall village and about 8 miles (13 km) by road south of the market town of Bicester in neighbouring Oxfordshire. It has nine 9 houses, soon to be 12 (depending on planning permission).
