Clinton is an unincorporated community on a peninsula next to Clinton Lake in Douglas County, Kansas, United States.

Clinton State Park is a public recreation area located on the north shore of Clinton Lake at the western edge of Lawrence, Kansas, United States.The 1,500-acre (6.1 km2) state park lies on the north shore of Clinton Lake, known for its clear water and good channel catfish, walleye, and crappie fishing. Visitors will find a large number of bird species that vary with the seasons. An extensive hiking/biking trail system make this park and adjacent 9,200-acre (37 km2) wildlife area an attractive destination for outdoors enthusiasts including hikers, nature photographers, mountain bicyclists, wildflower enthusiasts, wildlife observers, and even cross-country skiers. Park staff work closely with Lawrence and University of Kansas individuals and organizations to present several concerts and other special events each year. The park is the former to host the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival. Since 2008, Clinton State Park is the annual site of the Ironman Kansas 70.3 triathlon. The swim portion of the competition is held in Clinton Lake, and the run portion of the competition occurs on the park campgrounds and roads.

Kanwaka is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Kansas, United States. It is located 4 miles west of Lawrence. The name is a portmanteau of the Kansas and Wakarusa Rivers.

Kanwaka Township is a township in Douglas County, Kansas, USA. As of the 2000 census, its population was 1,317. The name is a portmanteau of the Kansas River and Wakarusa River.

David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is a football stadium located in Lawrence, Kansas, on the campus of the University of Kansas. The stadium was opened in 1921, and is the seventh oldest college football stadium in the country, and is widely recognized as the oldest west of the Mississippi River. Nicknamed "The Booth", the stadium is dedicated as a memorial to Kansas students who died in World War I, and is one of seven major veterans' memorials on the campus. The stadium is at the center of all seven war memorials - adjacent to the stadium, further up the hill is a Korean War memorial honoring Kansas students who served, just a few hundred feet south of the stadium stands the University of Kansas World War II Memorial, the Kansas Memorial Campanile and Carillon, the University of Kansas Vietnam War Memorial sits adjacent to the Campanile to the west, the Victory Eagle - World War I statue located on Jayhawk Boulevard, southeast of the stadium, and the Kansas Memorial Union, a veterans' memorial that also houses the main university student union and bookstore, located east of the stadium. The stadium is the home stadium of the Kansas Jayhawks football team. On December 20, 2017, KU Chancellor Douglas Girod announced that the stadium would be renamed in honor of KU alumnus and donor David G. Booth, who pledged a donation of $50 million to overhaul the facility.

John Allen Wakefield and his family was one of the first settlers to come to the newly created Kansas Territory. Free soilers, they arrived in western Douglas County, Kansas, in July 1854, one month after the territory was opened to settlement. They built a large log house to serve primarily as their living quarters. It had six rooms and was 6 miles (9.7 km) west of the free-state stronghold of Lawrence, Kansas. For protection the family built loop holes for guns into the sides of the house.Wakefield became the justice of the Squatters' Court, when it was organized August 26, 1854. Because of his position, he was thereafter known as Judge Wakefield. He tried cases involving both northern and southern settlers and until spring 1856 both groups got along without much trouble. That spring southern partisans in the area began a picket of men assigned to watch the house. In August 1856 much trouble erupted between the free-state men and the southern men in eastern Kansas. Free-state men at times garrisoned Judge Wakefield's house. At 2 A.M. on August 16 southern partisans, including Henry T. Titus, attacked the fortress home, but they were unable to take it. Later that day free-state men attacked and destroy the fortress home of Titus, called Fort Titus.The southern partisans sought retaliation for their string of defeats in August, when not only Fort Titus, but New Georgia's fort, Franklin's Fort and Fort Saunders were all taken by free-state partisans. On the night of September 1, 1856, the southerners burned six houses and one other building, including Judge Wakefield's house. The family lost all their possessions.Later another house and some farm buildings were constructed at the site. Judge Wakefield lived there until his death in June 1873.

Bishop Seabury Academy is a private, co-educational, Episcopal middle school and high school (grades 6–12) in Lawrence, Kansas. The school is accredited by ISACS (Independent Schools Association of the Central States) and is a member of KSHSAA. It is named for Samuel Seabury, first bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States and a British Loyalist during the American Revolution. It is currently one of two private middle/high schools in Lawrence.

Fort Titus was the fortress residence of pro-slavery advocate Henry T. Titus, built in Kansas in April 1856, during a period when forces aligned with Titus came into conflict with free-state settlers. The wider conflict, which emerged from a political and ideological debate over the legality of slavery in the proposed state of Kansas, became known as Bleeding Kansas.

Lawrence Free State High School (FSHS or LFS) is a public secondary school in Lawrence, Kansas, operated by Lawrence USD 497 school district, and serves students of grades 9 to 12. It is one of two public high schools within the city limits of Lawrence. The current enrollment is 1,786 students. The school colors are hunter green, garnet red, and silver. The current principal is Amy McAnarney. Lawrence Free State is a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) and offers a variety of sports programs. Athletic teams compete in the 6A division and are known as the "Firebirds". Extracurricular activities are also offered in the form of performing arts, school publications, and clubs. Free State's fine arts department received the 2019-2020 KSHSAA Performing Arts School of Excellence award.
