Acton is a town in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,671 at the 2020 census. It includes the villages of Acton, Miller Corner and South Acton. The town is home to the Acton Fairground, which holds the Acton Fair every late summer. It is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area.

The Branch River is an 11.9-mile (19.2 km) long river located in eastern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Salmon Falls River, part of the Piscataqua River watershed leading to the Atlantic Ocean. The river begins at the outlet of Lovell Lake at Sanbornville, a village in the town of Wakefield, New Hampshire. The river turns south, paralleling New Hampshire Route 16, passes through the village of Union, and turns southeast to reach the Salmon Falls River in Northeast Pond, within the town of Milton. A significant tributary is Jones Brook.

Northeast Pond is a 645-acre (2.61 km2) water body located along the border between Strafford County, New Hampshire, and York County, Maine, in the northeastern United States. The lake lies in the towns of Milton, New Hampshire, and Lebanon, Maine. It connects with Milton Pond to the south, whose outlet is the Salmon Falls River. Together with Town House Pond, a northwestern arm of Milton Pond, the water bodies form a single lake network known as Milton Three Ponds. The lake is classified as a cold- and warmwater fishery, with observed species including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, horned pout, white perch, yellow perch, and black crappie, and with rainbow and brown trout found in the deeper areas of the lakes.

Wilson Lake is a 308 acres (0.5 sq mi; 1.2 km2) waterbody located in York County, Maine in the United States. The lake is spring-fed and drains to Horn Pond which flows into the Salmon Falls River and eventually empties into the tidal waters of the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, NH, Great Bay and the Gulf of Maine. Wilson Lake is classified as "good" under the Maine Department of Environmental Protection water quality parameters. The Wilson Lake watershed covers 2,479 acres (3.9 sq mi). The watershed is currently 79% forested, 8% developed, and has 49% buildable area. The Wilson Lake shoreline is primarily composed of low density residential houses and camps (63%). The majority of structures (70%) are within 50 feet of the shoreline. Wilson Lake water quality has been measured since 1977. During this period 29 years of secchi disk transparency data, 9 years of phosphorus data, 5 years of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) data, and 17 years of dissolved oxygen (DO) data has been taken. From this data, the median total phosphorus (TP) concentration in 2008 was 6.5 parts per billion (ppb) and mean secchi disk transparency was 5.9 m (19.4 ft). The Wilson Lake Association was established to maintain a program that will reverse any trend of degrading water quality. The associations also encourages all of the lake's stakeholders to be involved and support cooperative efforts to reduce or eliminate the impact of contaminants on lake water quality.

Shapleigh, pronounced "SHAP-lee", is a town in York County, Maine, United States which was incorporated as the state's 43rd town in 1785. The population was 2,921 at the 2020 census. Shapleigh is divided into the villages of North Shapleigh, Shapleigh Corner, Ross Corner and Emery Mills. It is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area.

Horn Pond is a 227-acre (92 ha) water body located on the border of Acton, Maine, and Wakefield, New Hampshire, in the United States. The lake is both spring-fed and fed by the outflows of Great East Lake to the north and Wilson Lake to the east. Horn Pond's outlet is the Salmon Falls River which forms a natural border between Maine and New Hampshire and empties into the Piscataqua River east of Dover, New Hampshire, and ultimately the Gulf of Maine. Horn Pond is classified as "Potentially Non-supporting" under the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services' revised water quality standards for oligotrophic lakes. The Horn Pond watershed covers 1,139 acres (461 ha) that is primarily forested (70%). Only 6% of the watershed is developed, with 34% buildable area. The shoreline of Horn Pond is composed primarily of low density houses and camps (51%) and undeveloped shoreline (44%). 70% of the structures along the shoreline are within 50 feet (15 m) of the water's edge.Horn Pond water quality monitoring has been collected since 1982. During this period, 11 years of secchi disk transparency data, 7 years of total phosphorus (TP) data, 2 years of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) data, and 5 years of dissolved oxygen (DO) data has been collected. From this data, the median TP concentration is 8.0 parts per billion (ppb) and the mean transparency is 6.6 m (21.7 ft).The Horn Pond Association has been recently redeveloped and aims to protect and improve the water quality of Horn Pond.The lake is classified as a warm- and coldwater fishery and contains brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, Eastern chain pickerel, brown bullhead, white perch and bluegill.

The New Hampshire Farm Museum is a farm museum on White Mountain Highway (New Hampshire Route 125) in Milton, New Hampshire, United States. Three centuries of New Hampshire rural life are presented in the historic farmhouse. The museum includes a 104-foot-long (32 m) three-story great barn with collection of agricultural machinery, farm tools, sleighs and wagons. There are also live farm animals, a nature trail and a museum shop. The museum is located on the former Plumer-Jones Farm, a traditional series of connected buildings with farmhouse dating to the late 18th century and barns dating to the mid 19th century, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Plummer Homestead is a historic house museum at 1273 White Mountain Highway in Milton, New Hampshire. Built in the 1810s and repeatedly extended, it dates to the early settlement period of Milton, and is, along with the adjacent Plumer-Jones Farm, one of the oldest farm properties in the state. Both are now part of the New Hampshire Farm Museum. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Milton Town House is a historic civic and religious building at the junction of Town House Road and New Hampshire Route 125 in Milton, New Hampshire. Built in 1803 as a meeting place for civic and religious uses, it has served as Milton's town meeting site since then. It ceased religious functions in 1855, when it was reduced to a single story. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Jones Brook is a 10.6-mile-long (17.1 km) stream in eastern New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Branch River, which leads to the Salmon Falls River, part of the Piscataqua River watershed leading to the Atlantic Ocean. Jones Brook rises in the Moose Mountains, on the border between Brookfield and Middleton, New Hampshire, and flows southeast through Middleton. Upon entering Milton, the stream turns back to the north and joins the Branch River downstream from the village of Union.
