Damme (Dümmer)

Damme Priory (Priorat St. Benedikt, Damme) is a Benedictine priory dependent on Münsterschwarzach Abbey, and is situated at Kemphausen in Damme in the district of Vechta in Lower Saxony, Germany. In December 1962 monks from Münsterschwarzach settled in Kemphausen at the farm of the Kophanke family, the last member of whom (Fräulein Maria Kophanke) wished the property to be used for monastic purposes. From 1970 to 1983 the community had a small boarding-school and now run a guest-house. The priory belongs to the Ottilien Congregation of the Benedictine Confederation.

The Signalberg is, at 146 m above sea level (NN), the highest elevation in the Damme Hills and Oldenburg Münsterland. It rises in the district of Vechta in the north German state of Lower Saxony. The name means "beacon hill".

The Großes Moor ("Great Bog") is the proper name for a contiguous region of raised bog between the towns of Damme, Lohne and Vechta and the village of Goldenstedt in the county of Vechta on the one hand, and the villages of Diepholz and Barnstorf in Diepholz and Bramsche in Osnabrück in Lower Saxony on the other, all within Germany.Confusingly, there are two smaller bogs in this region also called Großes Moor; sources that use these name generally refer to be overall region as the "Great Bogs" (Große Moore). One of the two smaller bogs named Großes Moor lies south of Damme; the other east of Vechta. Both are linked by a chain of intermediate bogs east of Steinfeld and Lohne. The entire region consists of partly near-natural areas, former agricultural peat cuttings and raise bog grassland.

Holdorf is a municipality in the district of Vechta, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 20 km southwest of Vechta, and 35 km north of Osnabrück. It is the native homeland of the Holdorf clan, who have since settled in Denmark.
