The Zoological Garden, Alipore (also informally called the Alipore Zoo or Kolkata Zoo) is India's oldest formally stated zoological park (as opposed to royal and British menageries) and a big tourist attraction in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has been open as a zoo since 1876, and covers 18.811 ha (46.48 acres). It is probably best known as the home of the Aldabra giant tortoise Adwaita, who was reputed to have been over 250 years old when he died in 2006. It is also home to one of the few captive breeding projects involving the Manipur brow-antlered deer. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Kolkata, it draws huge crowds during the winter season, especially during December and January. The highest attendance till date was on January 1, 2018 with 110,000 visitors.

St. Thomas' College of Engineering and Technology is an engineering college located at Kidderpore, in Kolkata, India. Initially under Kalyani University, it is now affiliated with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT; formerly West Bengal University of Technology, WBUT), Kolkata. The campus also houses the St Thomas School, Kolkata and St. Stephen's Church.

The National Library of India is a library located in Belvedere Estate, Alipore, Kolkata, India. It is India's largest library by volume and public record. The National Library is under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Currently, Dr. Prof. Ajay Pratap Singh working as Director General (additional) who is Director General of Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata since 2020. The library is designated to collect, disseminate and preserve printed material produced within India. With a collection in excess of 2.2 million books and records, it is the largest in the country. Before independence, it was the official residence of Governor-General of India. The National Library is a result of the merging of the public library with the Imperial Library—several government libraries. The National Library (1953), then the Imperial Library housed several foreign (British) and Indian titles and was open to the public. It collects book, periodicals, and titles in virtually all the Indian languages while the special collections in the National Library of India house at least fifteen languages. The Hindi department has books that date back all the way to the nineteenth century and the first ever books printed in that language. The collections break down and consist of 86,000 maps and 3,200 manuscripts.

Alipore (Pron:ˌɑ:lɪˈpɔ:) is a neighbourhood in south Kolkata, in Kolkata district, in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is flanked by the Tolly Nullah to the north, Bhowanipore to the east, the Diamond Harbour Road to the west and New Alipore to the south, bordered by the Budge Budge section of the Sealdah South section railway line.

Alipore Sadar subdivision is an administrative subdivision of the South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

St Thomas' School is a co-educational kindergarten to higher secondary school in Kidderpore, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established in 1789, making it one of the oldest schools in India and has the largest campus in Kolkata.It has three football size fields, two basketball courts and children's playgrounds. The campus also houses the St. Thomas' College of Engineering and Technology and has a church known as St. Stephen's Church. There are two schools and an engineering college and a non-formal technical training centre. St. Thomas' boys' and girls' schools are the two schools here. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ISC), which conducts the ICSE (Grade 10) and ISC (Grade 12) examinations over the country.

St. Teresa's Secondary School is a higher secondary school located at Diamond Harbour Road, Kidderpore, Kolkata, West Bengal. The school was established in 1885 and named in honor of Marie Thérèse Haze. This school is affiliated to ICSE.

Kolkata Metropolitan Area (abbreviated KMA; formerly Calcutta Metropolitan Area), also known as Greater Kolkata, is the urban agglomeration of the city of Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the third most populous metropolitan area in India after Delhi and Mumbai. The area is administered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). The area covers four municipal corporations along with 37 municipalities. Kolkata metropolitan district was legally defined in the schedule of the Calcutta Metropolitan Planning Area (Use and Development of Land) Control Act, 1965 (West Bengal Act XIV of 1965), and, after repeal of that Act, redefined as Kolkata metropolitan area in the first schedule of West Bengal Town and Country (Planning and Development) Act, 1979 (West Bengal Act XIII of 1979).

The major municipal areas which are a part of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority or KMDA Kolkata conurbation are: Many towns in Greater Kolkata are being incorporated within the Kolkata postal area, with their postal PIN codes being changed so that these areas can be identified with the larger metropolitan area.

Lajpat Hindi High School is a school located at Kidderpore, Kolkata, India. This is a Hindi-medium boys' school and is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for Madhyamik Pariksha (10th Board exams), and to the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education for Higher Secondary Examination (12th Board exams). The school was established in 1951.

Kolkata Race Course in Hastings, Kolkata, India is the largest horse race venue in India. The race course was built in 1820 and is maintained by the Royal Calcutta Turf Club.The races are held from the month of July to September, and again from November to March. The races are usually held on Saturdays, and also on other public holidays.

The Alipore Jail or Alipore Central Jail, also known as Presidency Correctional Home, is a prison in Alipore, Kolkata, where political prisoners were kept under British rule, among them Subhas Chandra Bose. It also housed the Alipore Jail Press. It is no longer in operation as a jail, having been shut down on February 20, 2019. The jail site is being developed as an Independence museum in the name of the martyrs who were imprisoned and executed there. It is also sometimes used for film shoots.
