Millburn, Inverness

Millburn Academy (Gaelic: Acadamaidh Allt a' Mhuilinn) is a six-year secondary school in Inverness, Scotland. It serves the portion of Inverness east of the River Ness along with rural areas to the south of the city's reach, with a catchment area that includes the primary schools of Crown, Daviot, Drakies, Inshes, Raigmore and Strathdearn. The school runs parallel to the 'Mill Burn' which was originally used for a Whisky distillery. The distillery is now gone and has been replaced by a chain hotel. Millburn Academy opened for pupils in August 1961, although at that time it was known as Millburn Junior Secondary School. In its early years Millburn Junior Secondary School catered for pupils in the first three, and later four, years of secondary, but in 1967 the school name was changed to Millburn Secondary School, showing the direction in which the school was developing. For a period after 1967, the introduction of comprehensive education meant that Millburn Academy accommodated all pupils on the east side of Inverness for the first 2 years of their secondary education, after which the more able transferred to Inverness Royal Academy to continue their education while the others remained at Millburn Secondary School. In 1967 the school was renamed as Millburn High School for a short time, but after pressure from parents it was re-designated as Millburn Academy. The arrangement with Inverness Royal Academy ended in 1977 and from 1979 Millburn Academy could concentrate on being the sixth year secondary school for the catchment area - Crown, Drakies, Inshes, Milton Of Leys, Raigmore, Moy, Daviot and Raigbeg Primary Schools, including pupils living in the area who attended Bishop Eden Primary School and St. Josephs R.C. Primary School. Through the 1980s the school developed into a six year secondary. The current at Millburn academy is Johnny Croal ( elected in 2019).

Millburn distillery was a producer of single malt Scotch whisky that operated between 1807 and 1985. Its whisky was an important component of the "Mill Burn" vatted malt.

Crown (from the Scottish Gaelic: Crùn) is an area situated beside the city centre of Inverness, the capital city of the Scottish Highlands. In general, the area's housing dates back to the Victorian or Edwardian era.

Kingsmills Park was a football ground in Inverness, Scotland. It was the home ground of Inverness Thistle F.C.Following the merger of Inverness Thistle with Caledonian F.C. in 1994, the new team played at Caledonian's ground, Telford Street Park. In 1996 the club moved to the newly built Caledonian Stadium. A care home currently sits upon the location of the former ground.

Cameron Barracks is a British Army installation that stands on Knockentinnel Hill on the eastern outskirts of Inverness in Scotland.

Crown Church is a parish church in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, located at the junction of Midmills Road and Kingsmills Road near the city centre. The first minister (1899–1907) was the Reverend William Todd, renowned for his fervent evangelical preaching. Originally built for the Free Church of Scotland, the church buildings were completed in 1901. By this time the congregation had become part of the United Free Church of Scotland, which in turn united with the Church of Scotland in 1929, thus reuniting Scotland's largest Presbyterian denominations. In 2004 the congregation had 820 members, making Crown Church the largest Church of Scotland congregation in Inverness in terms of membership. The current minister (since 1998) is the Reverend Dr Peter H. Donald, who is also Vice-Convener of the Church of Scotland's Mission and Discipleship Council. The designer of the building was Inverness born architect James Robert Rhind, a successful architect who had been trained in his father’s practice. His designs were selected for 7 libraries around Glasgow following Andrew Carnegie’s gift of £100,000 to the city in 1901. His landmark buildings were greatly enhanced by his liberal use of columns, domes and sculpted features. Rhind’s best known buildings in the North of Scotland are the Royal Golf Hotel and the Crown Church, Inverness.

Eastgate Shopping Centre is located in Inverness, serving the largest shopping catchment area in the United Kingdom.The Eastgate shopping centre in Inverness has been taken over by UK-owned real estate company, Savills plc. popular amongst locals and tourists alike.In the old part of the building there is a clock depicting Noah’s Ark. Each hour a monkey is seen raising up a giraffe's neck and chiming a bell in order to tell the hour. On each hour the clock diorama also plays an animal themed song and a single set of doors open to show pictures of the animal associated with the song. At midday each day a longer display takes place where all of the tunes are played, all the windows are opened and the rest of the diorama also operates. It is still common to see crowds watching the clock for the extended 12 o'clock performance.

Royal Air Force Inverness or more simply RAF Inverness is a former Royal Air Force station located by the Moray Firth in Highland, Scotland. It was also known as RAF Longman and previously Longman Airfield.

Inverness TMD is a railway traction maintenance depot situated in Inverness, Scotland. The depot, visible from Inverness station, is operated by ScotRail. The current depot code is IS, previously the shed code was 60A. 37025, owned by the Scottish Thirty-Seven Group is named 'Inverness TMD'.

The Longman (Scottish Gaelic: An Longman) is an area in the city of Inverness, Scotland. Located north of the city centre, it is bounded by the Moray Firth and River Ness and is home to the largest industrial estate in the city. At the far west of the Longman is Inverness Harbour, close to which is the Citadel, built by Oliver Cromwell in 1652. Today, only the clock tower remains. Caledonian Stadium, home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle F.C., is situated within the shadow of the Kessock Bridge on the shores of the Moray Firth in the north of the area. The previous main campus of Inverness College is in the Longman.

UHI Inverness (Scottish Gaelic: Colaiste Inbhir Nis) is one of the thirteen partners that make up the University of the Highlands and Islands, based in Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. A new main building at Inverness Campus was opened in August 2015, with most students and staff now located there. UHI Inverness has a second campus at The Scottish School of Forestry, based near Balloch. UHI Inverness is a tertiary organisation providing education to school pupils, and at further education, higher education and postgraduate levels, together with training for apprentices and a wide range of short courses for business. Student accommodation is also available on the new campus. It has more than 1,700 students studying towards degree courses. It is among the first Colleges in Scotland to deliver both Foundation and Graduate level Apprenticeships.

The Filter Bunker Raigmore Inverness is the one remaining of a group of three subterranean bunkers situated around Raigmore in Inverness, Scotland. All three bunkers were constructed around 1940 for use by the Royal Air Force to process RADAR signals from Chain Home masts. The three bunkers in the cluster were Operations, Filter and Command. It is a B listed building because of its historic interest.
