Whitby Cemetery (or Larpool Cemetery) is a burial ground in the town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. Previous to the burial ground being open, interments took place in the graveyard around St Mary's Church on the east cliff of the town, by the coastline. The Larpool burial ground was opened in the 1860s, and a report from the early 2020s estimated the ground would run out of space between 2025 and 2027. Efforts to find an extension, or an alternative space, have proved problematic.

Whitby Strand was a wapentake and liberty in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was one of thirteen wapentakes across the old North Riding of Yorkshire. The division of the area into the Liberty and Wapentake of Whitby Strand occurred in the 14th century, previous to this, the settlements were in the wapentakes of Langbarugh and Pickering Lythe.

Larpool Hall, Whitby in Yorkshire is a Georgian house of historical significance and is listed on the English Heritage Register. It was built in the late 1780s and was a private residence for about two centuries. It is now a hotel which provides accommodation and a sociable bar.

The Whitby Weighing Machine House is a grade II listed structure that is south of Whitby, North Yorkshire, England, between the Esk Valley line and the River Esk. The site was also where the original railway line allowed passengers to change into carriages pulled by horses on local roads, acting as the original railway terminus. The building is still largely extant, but mostly derelict, and is one of the few original Whitby and Pickering Railway (W&PR) buildings to still exist.

Spital Beck is a small watercourse that enters the River Esk in the upper harbour at Whitby, in North Yorkshire, England. In Medieval times, the mouth of the Spital Beck was the limit of the Port of Whitby, and the beck itself in its lower reaches was associated with the shipbuilding industry. It is sometimes referred to locally as California Beck.

Whitby Rural District was a rural district governed from Whitby for its surrounding area in the North Riding of Yorkshire administrative county from 1894 to 1974. The then township of Whitby was governed by the separate Whitby Urban District. The rural district included Danby and Fylingdales. In 1974 it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972. Together with Whitby Urban District it was replaced by the Borough of Scarborough in the non-metropolitan and ceremonial county of North Yorkshire.

Larpool Viaduct, also known as the Esk Valley Viaduct is a 13 arch brick viaduct built to carry the Scarborough & Whitby Railway over the River Esk, North Yorkshire, England.

Whitby engine shed was a steam locomotive depot located at the south end of Whitby railway station (original Whitby Town) in North Yorkshire, England. The shed was opened in 1847, extended in the 1860s, and closed in 1959, when the closure of lines and dieselisation of the routes from Whitby took hold. The shed building, which was grade II listed in 1991, still stands, being utilised for various enterprises, and is now used as holiday accommodation.

The Port of Whitby is an ancient and historic seaport on the North Yorkshire coast of England. The port lies at the mouth of the River Esk, where it enters into the North Sea. A port has been in existence at Whitby since at least the 7th century, when it was used to bring in supplies for Whitby Abbey. The port is famous for being the port of origin for the sailings of Captain Cook, and some of the ships that he sailed on were also built in the harbour. Commercial cargo ceased in the late 20th century, however, the port is still an important location for the landing of fish.

Stainsacre is a village in the civil parish of Hawsker-cum-Stainsacre in North Yorkshire on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It lies 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of Whitby, near the A171 road. The village's population in 1809 was 144. Stainsacre was the seat of Jonathan Sanders, a merchant. By 1884, W.H. Attley lived in Stainsacre Hall. Stainsacre Hall was owned by Middlesbrough Borough Council and they used it as an educational and activity centre until 2010, before it was sold due to cost and dwindling numbers attending. Hawsker railway station served Stainsacre until it closed in 1965. The Parish Church is dedicated to All Saints.

Cholmley House or Whitby Hall is a banqueting house sited next to the ruins of Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, England. It was built in 1672 by Sir Hugh Cholmeley, whose family had acquired the Abbey ruins and the land around them after its dissolution in 1539 – from then until 1672, the family had lived in what had been the Abbey's gatehouse and guest lodgings. It was originally built with a square forecourt in front of it, now known as the Stone Garden – this contains a replica of the Borghese Gladiator, another replica of which was owned by the builder of the house. In 1743 the family succeeded to the Wentworth estates and moved its main base to Howsham Hall, leaving Cholmley House deserted. The north front lost its roof in a storm in 1790, leading to the demolition of the north front. Only the main hall remained and even this fell into decay before coming into the possession of the Strickland family, who fitted bracing arches in 1866 to secure its walls. These arches were replaced after the Ministry of Works took over the house and abbey ruins in 1936, before it was transferred to the Ministry's successor English Heritage in 1984. The house was repurposed as the museum, shop and visitor reception for the Abbey site by design studio Stanton Williams, and was reopened on 30 March 2002 by David Hope, then Archbishop of York.

Captain Cook Memorial Museum is a history museum in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. The museum building, Walker's House, belonged to Captain John Walker, to whom James Cook was apprenticed in 1746. Having lodged there as an apprentice, Cook returned to visit in the winter of 1771–72 after his first voyage.
