Hank is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is a part of the municipality of Altena, and lies about 10 km (6 mi) north of Oosterhout. Hanks borders on De Biesbosch National Park.It was first mentioned in 1851 as De Hank, and means "place where fishers dry their nets".The area was poldered in 1188 and a little village called Heeraartswaarde and church were built, however the settlement was destroyed in the St. Elizabeth's flood of 1421. In 1863, a Catholic parish was founded as Mariapolder, and in 1896 a convent of the Sisters of Charity was established near the village. The village was almost entirely destroyed in 1944 during World War II. Hank was rebuilt after the war.

Nieuwendijk is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is a part of the municipality of Altena, and lies about 8 km south of Gorinchem.

The Land of Altena (Dutch: Land van Altena) is a historical region and former fiefdom of the Lords of Altena, historically part of the County of Holland, but since 1815 located in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The Land of Altena lies on a river island in the estuary of the rivers Rhine and Meuse. It is enclosed by the rivers Boven Merwede (north), Afgedamde Maas (east) and Oude Maasje/Bergse Maas (south) and by the regions De Biesbosch (west) and the (former) Land of Heusden (southeast). It contains the former municipalities of Werkendam (the largest town of the island), and Woudrichem (the historical centre of the island and whose village Almkerk contains the site of the former castle of Altena). Since 1904 it is united with the Land of Heusden (only the part above the Bergse Maas) as the Land of Heusden and Altena. Unlike most parts of North Brabant the Land of Altena has a strong Protestant (Calvinist) character. Former Prime Minister Hendrikus Colijn (1869–1944) had his roots in this region.

Kille is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is a part of the municipality of Altena, and lies northwest of Nieuwendijk, and about 8 km southwest of Gorinchem. Kille is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Nieuwendijk. It was first mentioned in 1874 as Kille, and means gully. It is reference to the stream Bakkerskil. It has become a single urban area with Nieuwendijk, but still has its own place name signs. Kille was home to 216 people in 1840. Nowadays it consists of about 100 houses.

The Bergse Maas (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɛr(ə)xsə ˈmaːs]; pre-1947 spelling: Bergsche Maas) is a canal that was constructed in 1904 to be a branch of the river Maas (French: Meuse) in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The Maas splits near Heusden into the Afgedamde Maas and the Bergse Maas. The Afgedamde Maas flows north until its confluence with the river Waal (the main distributary of the river Rhine) to form the Merwede, while the Bergse Maas continues west as the main distributary of the Maas. Part of the Merwede (the Nieuwe Merwede) rejoins the Bergse Maas to form the Hollands Diep estuary.

The Oude Maasje ("Little Old Meuse") is a former distributary of the river Maas (or Meuse), which runs parallel to the current canalised Bergse Maas.

Werkendam (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌʋɛrkə(n)ˈdɑm] ) is a town and a former municipality in the southern Netherlands. The municipality, part of Land van Heusden en Altena, contained a large part of De Biesbosch area as is located in the province of North Brabant. On January 1sth 2019 it joined Woudrichem and Aalburg in the new municipality of Altena.

Van der Giessen de Noord (Dutch pronunciation: [vɑn dər ˈɣisə(n) də ˈnoːrt]) was a shipbuilding company that mainly built ferries, located in Krimpen aan den IJssel, a town in the western Netherlands. The yard was especially suited to the construction of large vessels due to its developed undercover facilities. The shipyard was founded in 1820. After World War II, the company expanded significantly in the building of larger ships. Owned by IHC Caland (now SBM Offshore), the yard went into liquidation in October 2003 primarily due to aggressive competition from other parts of the world such as South Korea. It had not received any orders for new vessels since 2000.

The Land of Heusden and Altena (Dutch: Land van Heusden en Altena) is a region located in the Dutch province of North Brabant. In 1904 it consisted of the historical regions Land van Altena and Land van Heusden (only the part above the Bergse Maas). Historically this region has been a part of North Brabant since 1815. During the Dutch Republic it belonged to Holland. It resembles comparable landscapes in the latter one, like e.g. the Alblasserwaard, which is situated just north of the region. The Land of Heusden and Altena lies on a river island in the estuary of the rivers Rhine and Meuse. It is enclosed by the rivers Boven Merwede (north), Afgedamde Maas (east) and Oude Maasje/Bergse Maas (south), and by the region of De Biesbosch, including De Biesbosch National Park (west). The Land van Heusden en Altena coincides with the municipality of Altena, except for the most western part, which belongs to De Biesbosch. Werkendam is the largest town, and Woudrichem the historical centre of the island. The former municipalities of Werkendam and Woudrichem formed the region of the Land van Altena, while the former municipality of Aalburg formed the region of the Land van Heusden. Unlike most parts of North Brabant, the Land of Heusden and Altena has a strong Protestant (Calvinist) character. Former Prime Minister Hendrikus Colijn (1869–1944) had his roots in this region.

Dussen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is a part of the municipality of Altena, and is located about 12 km south of Gorinchem. Dussen Castle is located near the village.
