Eugene Ashley High School is a high school just outside Wilmington, North Carolina, located in the New Hanover County School District. The facility was opened in the New Hanover County Veteran's Park in 2001. The school was named after Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Eugene Ashley, Jr., a native of Wilmington who died at age 37 in the battle of Lang Vei during the Vietnam War. As of the 2015–16 school year, it is 382 students over capacity.

LORAN-C transmitter Carolina Beach was the Zulu secondary station of the U.S. Southeast chain ( GRI 7270) of LORAN-C. The transmitter power was 800 kW. The free-standing antenna of 190.5 metres (625 ft) height was situated near Carolina Beach, North Carolina. After the shutdown of Loran-C in the U.S. in 2010, the transmitter and tower radiator were removed. In 1958, the tower buckled in Hurricane Helene and collapsed. It was replaced by a guyed mast radiator of same height. The four masts were demolished.

Sea Breeze is a census-designated place (CDP) in New Hanover County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,969 at the 2010 census, up from 1,312 in 2000. It is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Orton Plantation is a historic plantation house in the Smithville Township of Brunswick County, North Carolina, United States. Located beside the Cape Fear River between Wilmington and Southport, Orton Plantation is considered to be a near-perfect example of Southern antebellum architecture. Built in 1735 by the co-founder of Brunswick Town, Colonel Maurice Moore, the Orton Plantation house is one of the oldest structures in Brunswick County. During its history Orton Plantation has been attacked by Native Americans, used as a military hospital, and been home to lawyers, physicians, military leaders, and a Colonial governor.On April 11, 1973, the Orton Plantation was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Orton Plantation Gardens and family-owned chapel were open to the public until 2010, when the plantation was sold to Louis Moore Bacon, a direct decedent of the original builder.

Carolina Beach State Park is a North Carolina state park in New Hanover County, North Carolina. It covers 761 acres (3.08 km2) on Pleasure Island. The state owns 420 acres (1.7 km2) of the park in fee simple, and the remainder of park land is leased from the Department of the Army. The park is located along the Cape Fear River and Snow's Cut (part of the Intracoastal Waterway). Pocosin wetlands, a type of wetland that supports rare carnivorous plant species, are found in the park. Carnivorous plants found at this park include Venus flytraps, pitcher plants, butterworts and bladderworts. The park features six miles of hiking trails. Other amenities include a marina, campsites, picnic area, and a visitor's center featuring natural history exhibits.

Tregembo Animal Park is a zoo in Wilmington, North Carolina. Founded as the Tote-Em-In Zoo in 1952 by George and June Tregembo, featuring animals and a collection of "oddities", the park was renamed the Tregembo Animal Park in 2004. Following the retirement of the owner, the facility was leased to Jerry Brewer until 2003 when the Tregembo family took over operations. Following this change, the Tregembos wanted to change the focus to education.

WFBT (106.7 FM, "Hope Radio"), is a southern gospel radio station that broadcasts out of Wilmington, North Carolina.

The Brunswick Town Historic District is the site of the ruins of Brunswick Town, Russellborough, and Fort Anderson.

St. Philip's Church, Brunswick Town, is a ruined parish church in Brunswick County, North Carolina, United States. The Anglican church was erected in 1768 and destroyed in 1776. The ruins are located beside the Cape Fear River in the Brunswick Town Historic District, along with Fort Anderson, Russelborough, and the nearby Orton Plantation. Construction lasted 14 years, but took only one day to be destroyed when the British Army burned Brunswick Town. Before its demise, the church was considered one of the finest religious structures in North Carolina. On February 26, 1970, the historic site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Fort Anderson is a mid-19th-century earthen fort in the lower Cape Fear Region of North Carolina, located over the ruins of the colonial town of Brunswick in Brunswick County. It was built as a Confederate Fort by major general Samuel Gibbs French during the American Civil War. The fort was pivotal in protecting the Cape Fear River inlets and Wilmington upstream. Earthen batteries comprise the fort and were used as platforms and shields for the Confederate cannons. Beneath some of the earthworks were "bombproofs," shelters used by troops during enemy bombardment. The Confederacy decided to build forts around the Cape Fear River to protect the port of Wilmington from the Union blockade. During the Civil War, blockade runners brought supplies such as iron, guns, and ammunition to the Confederacy. The purpose of the fort was to hinder movement of Union ships, and to serve as a dropping off point for blockade runners fortunate enough to make it up the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Fort Anderson was built on the ruins of Brunswick Town and was originally named Fort St. Philip, after the ruins of the Revolutionary period church nearby. The name was changed to honor Col. George B. Anderson.

Brunswick Town was a prominent town in colonial North Carolina. It was the first successful European settlement in the Cape Fear region, a major British port in the 18th century, and home to two provincial governors. Brunswick Town lasted 50 years (1726–1776) until it was raided by the British Army during the American Revolutionary War and never rebuilt. During the American Civil War, 86 years after the town was abandoned, a large portion of the town was covered by earthworks for the construction of Fort Anderson. Brunswick Town became an excavation site for Cape Fear history during the 20th century. The Brunswick Town Historic District contains the ruins of 18th-century commercial and residential colonial homes, St Philip's Church, Fort Anderson, and Russellborough, the former governor's mansion. The town's historic district and St. Philip's Church are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Carolina Beach Pier is a pleasure, fishing, and amusement pier located in the town of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, between the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean, north of Fort Fisher and south of Freeman Park. At 669 feet (204 m) in length, it is one of the longest standing wooden piers in the United States. The deck of the pier is 25 feet (7.6 m) above sea level, while the top of the restaurant structure at the base of the pier is 40 feet (12 m).One of the main landmarks of Carolina Beach, the pier is an iconic fixture in the town's prominent beach culture and features one of the most expansive views on the Southeastern shoreline, offering a nearly 270-degree vantage point of marsh and oceanfront. A popular meeting place for surfers, it is the location of various surfing competitions throughout the year. It is also the filming location for various television series and movies.
