Athens Township is one of the fourteen townships of Athens County, Ohio, United States. The 2020 census found 30,163 people in the township.

OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital is a 144-bed community hospital at 55 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701. O'Bleness overlooks the Hocking River. The westernmost wing of the hospital is known as the Cornwell Center, which houses medical offices; a separate office building slightly northwest of this was recently built, and is known as the Castrop Center. The Hopewell Health Center (formerly Tri-County Mental Health Services) complex is also next door to the west. The current President and CEO of OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital is LeeAnn Helber.

Athens station is a former train station in Athens, Ohio, adjacent to the campus of Ohio University. It served the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad from around 1890 until 1971, then Amtrak from 1976 to 1981. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Athens B & O Train Depot.

Chessa Field is the women's soccer field of the Ohio Bobcats. It was opened under the name of "Ohio Soccer Field" on September 6, 1997. On that day, Ohio defeated the Youngstown State University Penguins 2-0 in what was also the first home varsity women's soccer game in the history of Ohio University. In 2003, several renovations took place to the field thanks to a $60,000 donation from Ohio University groundskeeper Scott Blower and his wife Crista. This allowed a new grass playing surface to be installed at the field. Also, the field dimensions were expanded to the NCAA maximum, new bleachers with a capacity of 1,000 were added, a new press box were constructed, a new digital scoreboard was added to the facility, and wrought-iron fencing was erected to surround the field. The stadium was named Chessa Field in honor of Scott and Crista Blower's daughter, Chessa Blower.

The Beasley Building is a historic commercial building in downtown Athens, Ohio, United States. Constructed at the turn of the 20th century, this industrial building has been named a historic site. Built of brick with elements of iron, the Beasley Building is a three-story structure with a five-bay facade. Each bay features paired Romanesque Revival windows above a beltcourse with cornice, while an entablature of geometric shapes surrounds the building near its roofline. Upon its construction, the building was intended to convey a sense of architectural balance, contrasting the two-story height of the main windows with the beltcourse and frieze, as well as a sense of pure massiveness.Situated in downtown Athens, the Beasley Building lies within an area that has served as Athens' commercial center since the community's founding. Substantial industry in the area began in 1840 when the Hocking Canal was constructed through the area, and the coming of the Scioto and Hocking Valley Railroad in 1855 expanded its commercial importance. Charles Higgins, a local miller, was one of the partners in the firm of Eldridge and Higgins, which bought the building's site in 1904 and began construction, although it was then purchased by Frank Beasley, a prominent miller from nearby Amesville. His firm eventually turned the Beasley Building into the region's largest gristmill powered by electricity, although it eventually closed and was converted for grocery purposes.Late in 1982, the Beasley Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying both because of its architecture and its place in the area's history. One year later, the building was awarded approximately $1.1 million in federal rehabilitation tax credits.

Goldsberry Track is the home of the Ohio Bobcats women's track and field team. It has been home to the program since the facility opened in May 2000. The facility is regarded as one of the best track and field facilities in the Mid-American Conference and the region. Goldsberry Track has a potential to hold 1,000 spectators in the red-brick grandstand located on the east side of the stadium. There is also a spacious press box on the stadium's east side and a high quality sound system installed at the stadium. The track at the facility is covered by Rekortan (a mixture of rubber granules with a liquid fixative on top of asphalt). The track surrounds Pruitt Field, an artificial turf field used by the Bobcat's women's field hockey squad, and the Ohio University Marching 110. In the summer of 2006, professional quality lights were installed at Goldsberry Track. A variety of events are held at Goldsberry Track every year. The Ohio Bobcats track and field teams annually host the McDonald’s Invitational and the Ohio Open for both men's and women's teams. In 2005, Goldsberry Track hosted the Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships. Goldsberry Track is named in honor of Blaine R. Goldsberry. An Ohio student-athlete (1911-1914), team physician (1921-1953), and athletic contributor, Goldsberry graduated from Ohio University in 1914 and was a lifelong supporter of Bobcats athletics.

Pruitt Field is a field hockey field located in Athens, Ohio on the campus of Ohio University. It serves as the home of the Ohio Bobcats women's field hockey program and opened in 2000. Pruitt Field is surrounded by Goldsberry Track and acts as the infield for track events. Pruitt Field has a potential to hold 1,000 spectators in the red-brick grandstand located on the east side of the stadium. There is also a press box on the stadium's east side and a high quality sound system. The playing surface at Pruitt Field is made of Astroturf 2000 and features a state-of-the-art drainage system below the field. In the summer of 2006, permanent lights were installed. The field is named after Peggy Pruitt who served as Ohio's head field hockey coach from 1975-1977 and Ohio's head tennis coach from 1975–1982. She then became Ohio's Associate Director of Athletics from 1993 until retiring in 2001. Today, she is the commissioner of the American Lacrosse Conference. In addition, the venue serves as the practice field for OU's marching band, The Ohio University Marching 110.

The Academic and Research Center, or ARC Building, of Ohio University, is a research center built in 2009 and first used in January 2010. The Academic and Research Center is located to the north-east of Stocker Engineering and Technology Center, in the West Green, between coordinates E-3 and F-3 on the official university map. It is marked as #184 on the map.

The Russ College of Engineering and Technology is the engineering college of Ohio University, a public research university in Athens, Ohio. It opened in 1920 as the second distinct college established at the university and is now one of the university's eleven academic colleges. It is located on the West Green. The Russ College is home to the university's highly ranked programs in the traditional fields of engineering at the undergraduate and graduate level. It enrolls approximately 1,400 undergraduates and almost 300 graduate students. It is named in honor of Fritz J. Russ, an alumnus in electrical engineering and the founder of Systems Research Laboratories, a major bioengineering concern. The Russ College maintains a close relationship with the College of Arts & Sciences due to its requirements in mathematics, hard sciences, and other courses.

Bob Wren Stadium is a baseball stadium located in Athens, Ohio on the campus of Ohio University. It is home field for the Ohio Bobcats since opening on April 18, 1998 and Southern Ohio Copperheads since 2002. The Bobcats opened the facility by defeating the Bowling Green Falcons 4–1 in front of 1,389 fans. Bob Wren Stadium features many modern amenities and hosts capacity for 4,000 spectators. The stadium has 100 chairback seats that are part of the VIP club, named the Baumholtz Club in honor of former Ohio baseball player Frank Baumholtz. In addition, there are around 1,000 bleacher-back seats in the stadium and another 1,000 seats of regular bleachers. Down both the third and first base lines there are two grassy knolls that are capable of seating up to another 1,000 fans. There are two concession stands available with traditional ballpark fare, and members of the Baumholtz Club have access to a private lounge that serves more upscale food items. The press box provides multiple phones and computer lines for members of the media. There are also two radio broadcast booths and one television broadcast booth available. The stadium has undergone several modifying enhancements since opening. In 2003, a large Daktronics digital scoreboard was added to the outfield of the stadium. That same year, heated batting cages were added to the northeast of the stadium, allowing Bobcat players to practice inside during cold weather. Lights were installed in 2004. As a result of this new addition, 15 of Ohio's 28 home games in 2005 were played at night. In the fall of 2018, the playing field underwent an extensive renovation to replace the existing natural infield with the new Nicholson Family Turf.The stadium is named for former Bobcat head coach Bob Wren, who held the highest all-time winning percentage of any Ohio baseball coach. The field is named after former Ohio Basketball coach Dutch Trautwein.In addition to serving as the home of Ohio Bobcats baseball, Bob Wren Stadium is home to the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and is the home of the state American Legion baseball tournament every year.

Halloween in Athens Ohio is an annual block party in Uptown Athens, Ohio, United States. Although called a block party, the festivities span several blocks and revelers can be found at house parties around the city. On the closest Saturday to Halloween, an estimated 10,000 to 30,000 party-goers dressed in costumes descend upon the City of Athens. The Ohio University spends roughly $90,000 a year in security and safety measures for the campus. The City of Athens brings in Police forces from surrounding counties to help with crowd control and safety.

Athens Downtown Historic District is a registered historic district in Athens, Ohio, United States, listed in the National Register on September 30, 1982. It contains 88 contributing buildings, made from an assortment of materials. The architecture is in the style of Late Victorian with periods of significance from 1900–1924, 1875–1899, and 1850–1874. The downtown district is currently being used for Commerce / Trade, Domestic, Education, and Government.The district has a number of contiguous contributing buildings, many with brick facades, bracketed cornices, and decorative arched stone lintels.
