North East Lanarkshire was a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (Westminster) from 1885 to 1918. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post voting system.

Fauldhouse railway station is a railway station serving Fauldhouse in West Lothian, Scotland. It is located on the Shotts Line, 23¼ miles (37 km) west of Edinburgh Waverley towards Glasgow Central. The station is almost at the halfway point of the Shotts Line between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The station is located on the south-western edge of the village of Fauldhouse.

Torbothie is a small area in the town of Shotts, North Lanarkshire. Shotts has an overall population of approximately 8,570. Torbothie has a mixture of properties including council-letted accommodations and private dwellings, a Salvation Army Corps, a graveyard, large areas of forestry, a football ground, and Stane Primary School, as well as a small man made loch called The Voe, also known locally and informally as 'Torbothie Beach.' Torbothie is close to Springhill, Stane and Dykehead, which are other areas of the town of Shotts. Torbothie means "the bothie on the hill".

Blackhall railway station served the town of Shotts, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, from 1864 to 1893 on the Wilsontown, Morningside and Coltness Railway.

Fauldhouse (Scots: Fauldhoose; Scottish Gaelic: Falas) is a village in West Lothian, Scotland. It is about halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The nearest towns to Fauldhouse are Whitburn and Livingston. Other neighbouring villages include Longridge, Shotts and Stoneyburn. At approximately 750 feet above sea level, Fauldhouse is one of the highest villages in West Lothian.

The 54-turbine Black Law Wind Farm has a total capacity of 124 megawatts (MW). The first phase of 42 turbines was the largest sufficient to meet the average electricity needs of 70,000 homes each year - or a town the size of Paisley - and is estimated to save around 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.The £90 million wind farm is located near Climpy in South Lanarkshire and has been built on an old opencast coalmine site which was completely restored to shallow wetlands during the construction programme. It employs seven permanent staff on site and created 200 jobs during construction. Phase 1 was the first built in 2005, consisting of 42 turbines, which at the time was the largest onshore wind farm in the UK. Phase 2 added another 12 turbines in 2006, with subsequent extensions in 2017 bringing the total turbine count to 88.The project has received wide recognition for its contribution to environmental objectives, including praise from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, who said that the scheme was not only improving the landscape in a derelict opencast mining site, but also benefiting a range of wildlife in the area, with an extensive habitat management projects covering over 14 square kilometres.

Crofthead railway station or Fauldhouse and Crofthead was a station on the Wilsontown, Morningside and Coltness Railway (WM&CR) that served the area of Crofthead and its miners rows, Greenburn and Gowanbrae near Fauldhouse in West Lothian. The station was located 7 miles 40 chains east of Morningside railway station. The company at first adopted the standard track gauge for mineral lines of 4 ft 6 in, often referred to as Scotch gauge. The Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway took over the WM&CR in 1849, the track gauge already having been changed in August 1847, from the now almost obsolete 4 ft 6 in to the generally accepted standard gauge of 4 ft 8½ in.Crofthead station had at first just a single short platform and this is clearly indicated on the OS map of 1854, It was accessed off Bridge Street near the hamlet of Drybridge, close to Fauldhouse. In 1895 the station site is shown with several buildings, sidings and loading docks in addition to a single platform. The Caledonian Railway (CR) established a goods and mineral depot nearby and Fauldhouse station is also located in the vicinity of the old Fauldhouse and Crofthead station. A number of mineral lines ran from near the station to collieries in the area, Polkemmet Moor, Cult, Rigghouse, etc.The station is also recorded by the North British Railway (NBR) study group as opening on 02/06/1845 and closing under the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) as Fauldhouse and Crofthead on 1 May 1930.

Fauldhouse United Football Club are a Scottish football club based at Park View in Fauldhouse, West Lothian. The club won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1946 and currently play in the East of Scotland Football League.

Harthill Royal Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the Greenrigg area of Harthill, West Lothian. Previously an amateur side called Harthill Royal Bar, the club shortened their name on joining the Scottish Junior Football Association, East Region in 1992. Club colours are royal blue. Their Gibbshill Park ground was previously the home of Polkemmet Juniors F.C. (1937–54, 1974–88) and known as Beechbank Park.The SJFA restructured prior to the 2006–07 season, and Royal found themselves in the 15-team East Region, South Division. Harthill spent all of their time in the bottom tier of the Juniors, with a best finish of 3rd in 2007–08. For the 2021–22 season, they joined West of Scotland Football League in the senior pyramid and were placed in Division Four. Despite their ground's West Lothian location being in the East of Scotland Football League catchment area, the club was allowed to choose which league to join due to the village of Harthill being situated in North Lanarkshire. However, the club then returned to the East of Scotland Football League, joining the Third Division for the 2022–23 season.

Harthill is a rural village split between North Lanarkshire and West Lothian in Scotland, with most of the village in North Lanarkshire. It is located about halfway between Glasgow, 21 miles (34 kilometres) to the west, and Edinburgh, 25 miles (40 km) to the east. It lies on the River Almond about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) west of the small town of Whitburn. The closest major towns are Bathgate, 6 miles (9.7 km) away, and Livingston, 10 miles (16 km) away. Major towns within North Lanarkshire, such as Wishaw, Airdrie, Motherwell, Coatbridge and Bellshill are all around 10 to 15 miles (15 to 25 km) to the west. The M8 motorway bypasses the village and Harthill has a service station named after it.

West Benhar Football Club (also known simply as Benhar) were a senior football club from the small mining settlement of West Benhar, a mile to the south west of Harthill, Scotland. There is now little left of this settlement. Their home ground was situated in nearby Harthill, and the pitch still exists in the village today. It was reputed that they never lost a home game at Harthill Mains.

Greenrigg is a small village that lies in the west of West Lothian, Scotland. Greenrigg is within walking distance to shops in the bordering village of Harthill and is quick drive away from Whitburn. The village has a school, Greenrigg Primary School, and a convenience store located in the centre on Stanley Road, a short distance from the site of the previous store, which burned down in 2006 as a result of a fireworks accident. Greenrigg was once a thriving mining village and produced large amounts of coal. The remains of the mine can be seen in the form of a large mound of debris from the mine excavations or "bing" as they are called locally. The bing is now largely covered with wild flowers and grass, and serves as a barrier between the village's football pitch and the nearby M8 motorway. Adjacent to the east of Greenrigg lies Polkemmet Country Park, opened in 1981, which has a driving range and 9-hole golf course, and is also home to the Scottish Owl Centre, which features the largest collection of owls in the world. Iain J. Grant, the Canadian broadcaster, now with CFRB radio in Toronto, grew up in Greenrigg in the early 1970s before emigrating to Canada.
