The Curtis Culwell Center (formerly the Garland Special Events Center) is a 6,860-fixed seat arena (8,500 full capacity) and conference center in Garland, Texas. It opened in 2005 and was designed by HKS, Inc. and constructed at a cost of $31.5 million by Lee Lewis Construction with engineering by Walter P. Moore, Blum Consulting Engineers, and RLK Engineers Inc. The arena is the property of the Garland Independent School District (GISD).

Firewheel Town Center is a 998,347-square-foot (92,749.5 m2) open-air regional shopping mall in Garland, Texas. The mall is located on the northeast corner of President George Bush Turnpike and State Highway 78. The mall features Dillard's, Macy's , Dick's Sporting Goods, and Barnes & Noble, in addition to an AMC Theatres. The mall opened on October 7, 2005. Although "coming soon" signs first appeared in 1984, actual construction did not begin until early 2003. It was completed in 2005 and is owned by the Simon Property Group. Unlike a traditional mall, Firewheel Town Center was designed in the new urbanism style. Similar area shopping centers include Southlake Town Square, The Shops at Legacy, Uptown Village at Cedar Hill, The Shops at Highland Village, and The Village at Allen. The Firewheel name comes from the nearby Firewheel Golf Park, which in turn is named for a flower that grows naturally in the area.

Garland ISD extends from the Dallas city limits, northeast to the county line and serves parts of the communities of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse. Small portions of Dallas and Wylie are served by Garland ISD.The district encompasses approximately 100 square miles (260 km2). With a student enrollment of 56,459 students, GISD is currently the fourth largest school district in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and is thirteenth largest district in the state of Texas. Garland High School, the district's first high school, is more than one hundred years old. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.

Garland Christian Academy (GCA) is a private preK-12 Christian school in Garland, Texas. As of 2016 it had about 340 students.Lavon Drive Baptist Church voted to establish the school in 1971 and the school opened in August 1972 with 12 teachers and 136 students. Texas's 32nd congressional district of the United States House of Representatives serves a suburban area of northeastern Dallas County and a sliver of Collin and Denton counties. The district was created after the 2000 United States census, when Texas went from 30 seats to 32 seats. It was then modified in 2011 after the 2010 census. The current representative is Democrat Colin Allred. Among other communities, the district includes part of the North Dallas neighborhood of Preston Hollow, which has been the home of George W. Bush since the end of his presidency. While it previously contained much of the Western Dallas County area, including Irving, since the 2011–2012 redistricting cycle, the district now covers mostly the Northern and Eastern Dallas County areas, and a small portion of Colin County. In 2018, civil rights attorney and former NFL player Colin Allred won a heavily contested primary for the Democratic nomination, and defeated Republican incumbent Pete Sessions in the November 6 election. The district, like most suburban districts in Texas, had long been considered solidly Republican. However, its pre-2022 configuration was considered more of a swing district as a result of changing demographics, along with antipathy towards former President Donald Trump in suburban areas. After 2022, the district was reconfigured to be solidly Democratic, re-electing Allred with over 60% of the vote.

Downtown Garland station (formerly known as Garland Central Transit Center until 2002) is a DART Light Rail station located in Garland, Texas (USA) at Walnut and Fifth Streets. It reopened November 18, 2002, serving the downtown Garland area including Garland City Hall, Historic Downtown Garland and Heritage Park. From 2002 until the 2012 extension to Downtown Rowlett, it served as the northeast terminus of the Blue Line.
