The Jasper County Courthouse is a 106-ft tall historic courthouse located at Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri. It was built in 1894–1895. This highly photographed Richardsonian Romanesque edifice designed by architect Max A. Orlopp Jr. was constructed with local Carthage marble and has medieval castle features that include turrets, towers, and arches. It is the second most photographed building in Missouri. It remains in use by Jasper County officials.The county clerk at the time the courthouse was approved was Annie White Baxter, the first woman to be elected a county clerk in the United States. As a member of county government, she exerted a significant degree of influence in the planning of the building, and she is memorialized on the grounds.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Carthage Underground is a collection of marble quarries in Carthage, Missouri, most of which is owned by Americold. Americold holds 43,000,000 square feet (4,000,000 m2) of the quarry, much of which is occupied by warehouses or factories, primarily for food storage. The total area of the underground is difficult to trace, but is rumored to stretch as far as Joplin, Missouri (roughly 20 miles (30 km) from Carthage). It is frequently visited by urban explorers due to the decrepit abandoned quarries mixed seamlessly with working underground factories and warehouses. Many of the local industries rely heavily upon the facilities to store foodstuffs there. It is also oddly present with an ecosystem of its own, with underground lakes hosting turtles, fish and various other species. This could be seen as remarkable given that the quarries were utterly devoid of life before the mining industry. The temperature of the underground is frequently quoted as 60 °F (16 °C) year round, though artificial refrigeration has altered the temperature to a range of -30 to 100 °F (38 °C). Urban explorers should be extremely cautious exploring the undergrounds—the great amount of them are uninhabited and/or flooded, and wildlife is not rare there. Americold has a policy against photographs. Unauthorized trespassing in their share of the underground can result in criminal prosecution, and the mostly uncharted abandoned areas are dangerous at best.

The Boots Motel, a historic U.S. Route 66 motor hotel in Carthage, Missouri, opened in 1939 as the Boots Court at 107 S. Garrison Avenue. It served travellers at the "crossroads of America" (US 66 and U.S. Route 71, the major roads of that era) and was built in streamline moderne and art deco architectural style, its roofline and walls accented in black Carrara glass and green neon. Arthur and Ilda Boots originally advertised "a radio in every room" and each room included a covered carport. A filling station briefly operated at the front of the property when it opened during the Great Depression but was soon replaced by the motel's office.The motel was one of two to bear the Boots Court name; Arthur's brother Loyd A. Boots had established a 1930 Boots Cottage Court on US 54 in Eldon which became Randle's Court upon its sale to Helen Randle in 1947. Both of these properties are being painstakingly restored to a historic "radio in every room" 1940s, by different private preservationists.

The Bank of Carthage was a local bank in Carthage, Missouri. It traced its history to 1868 and called itself the "oldest bank in southwest Missouri."The Bank of Carthage was a successful business for many decades, surviving the Great Depression with minimal disruption due to its conservative policies. It occupied an historic building on Main Street in Carthage from 1882 until 1960, when it relocated to a more modern facility.After 1960 the company was absorbed into Boatmen's Bank and subsequently Bank of America.

The district encompasses 42 contributing buildings in the central business district of Carthage. It developed in the late-19th and early-20th centuries and includes representative examples of Italianate and Romanesque Revival style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Jasper County Courthouse. Other notable buildings include the Bank of Carthage, Ben Franklin Store (1920s), Farmers and Drovers Bank / Miller Clothing Company (1875, 1908), Belk-Simpson Building (pre-1884), Carthage Water & Electric Co. (pre-1884), Snyder Building (1901), Drake Hotel (1920), Fire Department (1883), Leggett and Platt (1920), McNerney Block (1905), and Carthage National Bank.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Cassill Place Historic District is a national historic district located at Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri. The district encompasses eight contributing buildings in an exclusively residential section Carthage. It developed between about 1890 and 1925 and includes representative examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. The buildings include the Macoubrie House (1903), Former Herrin Home (c. 1890), Fenimore House (c. 1890), McFadden House (c. 1925), Meister House (c. 1890), A. H. McFadden House (1914), Former Eugene O'Keefe House (c. 1893), and Dennison House (c. 1914).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Colonial Apartments are two historic apartment buildings located at 406 Walnut St. in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri. They were designed by Neville, Sharpe, and Simon in the Colonial Revival style and built in 1948 by the B&G Construction Group. They are two-story, red brick building designated Building A and Building B. They have low-pitched hipped roofs with segmental arched dormers.: 5 The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Battle of Carthage State Historic Site is a state-owned property located in the city of Carthage, Missouri. The 7.4-acre (3.0 ha) site preserves one of the skirmish sites of the Battle of Carthage which took place in 1861 as one of the first battles of the American Civil War. The site was acquired by the state in 1990 and is managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The district encompasses 491 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section Carthage. It largely developed between about 1875 and 1925 and includes representative examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include St. Ann's Catholic Church (1908), Former Westminster Presbyterian Church (pre-1888), First United Methodist Church (1925), Carthage Senior High School (1904), First Christian Church (1909), Former Cumberland Presbyterian Church (1892), and Carthage Public Library (1904).: 33 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Battle of Carthage, also known as the Engagement near Carthage, took place at the beginning of the American Civil War on July 5, 1861, near Carthage, Missouri. The experienced Colonel Franz Sigel commanded 1,100 Federal soldiers intent on keeping Missouri within the Union. The Missouri State Guard was commanded by Governor Claiborne F. Jackson himself and numbered over 4,000 soldiers led by a hero of Mexico, Sterling Price, along with 2,000 unarmed troops who did not participate in the battle.

Jasper County is located in the southwest portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 122,761. Its county seat is Carthage, and its largest city is Joplin. The county was organized in 1841 and named for William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolutionary War. Jasper County is included in the Joplin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office has legal jurisdiction throughout the county.
