Suburban Gardens

The Nannie Helen Burroughs School, formerly known as National Training School for Women and Girls, was a private coeducational elementary school at 601 50th Street NE in Washington, D.C. The school was founded in 1909 by Nannie Helen Burroughs as The National Trade and Professional School for Women and Girls, Inc. and was the first school in the nation to provide vocational training for African-American females, who did not otherwise have many educational opportunities available to them. The 1928 Trades Hall building, the oldest building on the campus, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1991. The property now houses the headquarters of the Progressive National Baptist Convention as well as the Monroe School, a private junior-senior high school that continues Burroughs' legacy.

Deanwood is a neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., bounded by Eastern Avenue to the northeast, Kenilworth Avenue to the northwest, Division Avenue to the southeast, and Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the south. One of Northeast's oldest neighborhoods, Deanwood's relatively low-density, small wood-frame and brick homes, and dense tree cover give it a small-town character that is unique in the District of Columbia. Much of its housing stock dates from the early 20th century. Several well-known African-American architects, including William Sidney Pittman and Howard D. Woodson, and many skilled local craftsmen designed and built many of its homes. The neighborhood was once home to Nannie Helen Burroughs, an early civil rights leader and the founder of the National Training School for Women and Girls, an independent boarding school for African-American girls founded in 1909 and located on 50th Street, NE. Marvin Gaye (1939–1984) was also born and raised in this neighborhood. From 1921 to 1940, Deanwood was also home to Suburban Gardens (50th and Hayes NE), a black-owned amusement park that served thousands of African-American residents during a time of racial segregation. It is served by the Deanwood Metro station on the Orange Line. The neighborhood is featured prominently in crime author Jim Beane's short story "Jeanette."

The Strand Theater is an abandoned neighborhood movie theater, located at 5129–5131 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, Northeast, Washington, D.C., in the Deanwood neighborhood.

Lincoln Heights is a residential neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE to the north, Blaine Street NE to the south, Division Avenue NE to the east, and 49th Street NE to the west. The neighborhood is almost entirely composed of the Lincoln Heights Housing Project, a 325-unit public housing complex with low-rise apartment buildings and townhouses ranging from one bedroom to four bedrooms. The complex is run by the District of Columbia Housing Authority.

Hillbrook is a neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the north, Brooks Street to the south, 44th Street NE to the west, and Division Avenue to the east.

Burrville is a neighborhood located in Northeast Washington, D.C., east of the Anacostia River. It is triangular in area, bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the south, Division Avenue to the northwest, and Eastern Avenue to the northeast.

Howard Dilworth Woodson High School (known as H. D. Woodson High School, Howard D. Woodson High School, or Woodson High School) is a secondary school in Washington, D.C. that serves grades 9 through 12. It is located in the Northeast Boundary neighborhood, at the intersection of 55th and Eads Streets NE. It is a part of the District of Columbia Public Schools and primarily serves students in Ward 7. The current principal is William Massey.

First Baptist Church of Deanwood is a Baptist church at 1008 45th Street in Northeast, Washington, D.C., in the Deanwood neighborhood. It was built in 1938, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. It was added to the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites the same year. A new church was completed in 1961, just south of the old church. The new church is now the main location for worship services and the old building is used for youth activities.

The Deanwood Neighborhood Library is a branch of the District of Columbia Public Library in the Deanwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is located at 1350 49th Street NE, within a community center that opened in July 2010 at a cost of $32 million and also includes a swimming pool, a gym, and facilities for child care and seniors.Construction on the 63,000-square-foot facility began in December 2008. The library, which occupies 7,500 square feet of the space, has room for 25,000 books. It was designed by Perkins Eastman.Deanwood, one of the city's most historic African American neighborhoods, was previously served by a library kiosk that opened in 1976. The one-room, 120-square-foot structure held a few thousand books but lacked basic services like running water. Though it has not been operational since 2008, the remains of the kiosk can be seen at 4215 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE.

Deanwood is an island-platformed Washington Metro station in the Deanwood neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., United States. The station was opened on November 20, 1978, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Orange Line, the station is the final station in the District of Columbia going east. The station is located at Minnesota Avenue and 48th Street Northeast. It is architecturally similar to its sister station, Minnesota Avenue.

The Capitol View Neighborhood Library is part of the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) System. It was opened to the public on January 23, 1965, after 10 years of advocacy by the Capitol View community.

Benning Road is an island-platformed Washington Metro station in the Benning Ridge neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., United States. The station was opened on November 22, 1980, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Blue and Silver Lines, the station is located in a residential area near the intersection of Benning Road and East Capitol Street. It is the first station after the Blue and Silver Lines diverge from the Orange Line east of the Anacostia River, and also the last station in the District of Columbia going east.
