King Water

The Moot Hall is a municipal building in The Market Place in Brampton, Cumbria, England. The building, which is used as a local tourist information office and as a meeting place for Brampton Parish Council, is a Grade II* listed building.

Brampton is a market town, civil parish and electoral ward within the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England, about 9 miles (14 km) east of Carlisle and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Hadrian's Wall. Historically part of Cumberland, it is situated off the A69 road which bypasses it. St Martin's Church is famous as the only church designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb, and contains one of the most exquisite sets of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, and executed in the William Morris studio.

It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building and is the only church designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb. The architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner described it as "a very remarkable building".

Brampton Town railway station was the terminus of the Brampton Town Branch, in the centre of Brampton, Cumbria, England. It was opened in 1775, to work on the Earl of Carlisle's Waggonway. By 1836, a horse-driven passenger service had been implemented when the track was realigned to meet up with the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, providing a service to Milton station, now Brampton (Cumbria) station, about a mile out of town.The passenger service ended in 1881, however in 1913 the railway was taken over by the North Eastern Railway (NER), the track was relaid and a steam hauled service to Brampton Junction was introduced. The NER did not run passenger services between 1917 and 1920. After being incorporated into the London and North Eastern Railway it was closed to passengers on 29 October 1923 and for goods on 31 December 1923. The track was lifted shortly afterwards but the course of the line can still be easily traced over most of its length as much of it now forms a public footpath.

Walton is a village and civil parish in the far north of Cumbria, England. It is located 10 miles (16 km) from Carlisle and is about 2 miles (3 km) north of Brampton, on the north bank of the River Irthing. Nearby villages include Newtown, Banks and Lanercost.

Camboglanna (with the modern name of Castlesteads) was a Roman fort. It was the twelfth fort on Hadrian's Wall counting from the east, between Banna (Birdoswald) to the east and Uxelodunum (Stanwix) to the west. It was almost 7 miles (11 km) west of Birdoswald, on a high bluff commanding the Cambeck Valley. It guarded an important approach to the Wall and also watched the east bank of the Cambeck against raiders from the Bewcastle area. The site was drastically levelled in 1791 when the gardens of Castlesteads House were laid over it. The name "Camboglanna" is believed to mean "Crook Bank", or "Bent Valley" because it overlooks a bend in the river Irthing; the name is Brythonic, made of cambo- "curved, bent, crooked" and glanna "steep bank, stream/river side, valley with a stream". There was some confusion over the Roman name for the fort. At one time Camboglanna was the accepted name for Birdoswald, but this is now believed to be an error in the Notitia Dignitatum. The Roman name for Birdoswald is now thought to be Banna.

Brampton Old Church stands about 1 mile (2 km) to the west of the town of Brampton, Cumbria, England. It was originally the parish church of Brampton but is now redundant. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Cam Beck is a stream in Cumbria. It runs for 10.9 miles (17.6 km) past Kirkambeck and Cambeck Hill and into the River Irthing.
