West Footscray is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 8 km (5.0 mi) west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maribyrnong local government area. West Footscray recorded a population of 11,729 at the 2021 census.

The Yarraville Oval is an Australian rules football and cricket ground located on the corner of Williamstown Road and Anderson Street in Yarraville, Victoria. It is currently the home ground of the Yarraville/Seddon Eagles Football Club and the Yarraville Cricket Club. The ground was most notable as the home of the Yarraville Football Club throughout almost its entire existence in both the Victorian Junior Football Association from 1903 until 1927, and then in the Victorian Football Association from 1928 until 1982; the club played its games at the Western Oval in its final season in 1983. The ground was originally managed by a group of trustees, but management of the ground was transferred to the Footscray Council in 1928 to enable the ground to be upgraded to Association standards. The City of Maribyrnong, which incorporates the former City of Footscray, remains the ground manager.In 1942, Yarraville Oval was the home of the Footscray Football Club in the Victorian Football League because its normal home ground, the Western Oval, was being used as an army base, whilst the VFA was in recess until 1945. The Western Region Football League had its head office at the Oval until 2010. A ground record crowd estimated to be between 16,000 and 18,000 attended Ron Todd's first VFA match for Williamstown, played against Yarraville on 20 April 1940. The record crowd for a VFL game was set on 25 July 1942 when 15,000 fans turned out to see Footscray defeat eventual grand finalist Richmond by seven points in a high-scoring game.One of the most noticeable features of the Yarraville Oval is the historic W. Pedley Stand. The grandstand was built in two sections and has a unique V shape: the southern half of the stand was built in 1929, and the northern half was built in 1940. The viewing area of the grandstand was damaged by fire in 2017.

West Footscray railway station is located on the Sunbury line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of West Footscray, and it opened on 1 October 1888 as Footscray West. It was renamed West Footscray on 1 September 1912.Two dual gauge tracks operate north of the station, forming the South Kensington – West Footscray freight line, linking the Port of Melbourne and other freight terminals to the rest of the state. The tracks also form part of the Melbourne – Sydney and Melbourne – Adelaide standard gauge lines. The Regional Rail Link lines operate to the south of the station. In 1976, the original station buildings were demolished, and replaced with brick structures. In 2013, the station was rebuilt 200 metres further west, to accommodate two lines to the south as part of the Regional Rail Link project. On 14 October of that year, the new station opened, with the old station demolished soon after.A third platform has been built to the north of the existing island platform, as part of the Metro Tunnel project, to allow services to terminate and return. In late 2018, work commenced and, on 6 July 2020, the platform opened.

South Kingsville recorded a population of 2,156 at the 2021 census.The suburb is shaped as a right-angled triangle, bounded by New Street in the west, Blackshaws Road in the south, with the Newport-Sunshine railway line as a hypotenuse. Neighbouring suburbs include Newport, Yarraville, Altona North and Spotswood. South Kingsville is approximately 10 minutes by car from Melbourne CBD via the West Gate Freeway and a 19-minute train journey using nearby Spotswood railway station.

Whitten Oval (also known as Victoria University Whitten Oval under a naming rights agreement) is a stadium in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in Barkly Street, West Footscray. It is the training and administrative headquarters of the Western Bulldogs (formerly the Footscray Football Club), which competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The ground is also the home of the club's women's and reserves teams which compete in the AFL Women's (AFLW), Victorian Football League (VFL), and VFL Women's (VFLW).Formerly known as the Western Oval, the venue was renamed in honour of Ted Whitten in 1995, a former player, captain and coach for the club. A statue of Whitten is located at the entrance of the oval.

The electoral district of Footscray is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It lies just north of Melbourne, covering the suburbs of Footscray, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Seddon, West Footscray, and parts of Yarraville. The seat was first created by The Electoral Act Amendment Act 1876 taking effect at the 1877 elections. It was abolished in 1904 and recreated in 1927. In its current incarnation it has been held by the Labor Party for its entire existence. It has usually been a comfortably safe Labor seat, as it lies in Labor's traditional heartland of western and northern Melbourne.

It serves the western Melbourne suburb of Footscray, and it opened on 10 December 1906.In 1927, the station was moved about 160 metres west and reconstructed, to allow for the construction of the South Kensington – West Footscray goods line.Two dual gauge goods tracks operate north of the station, linking the Port of Melbourne and other freight terminals to the rest of the state. Since 1962, those tracks have formed part of the Melbourne – Sydney standard gauge line and, since 1995, have also formed part of the Melbourne – Adelaide standard gauge line. The Regional Rail Link lines operate to the south of the station.
