Bad Sachsa

The Ravensberg is a 659 m high mountain in the South Harz mountains in the German state of Lower Saxony. It is relatively isolated and visible for a long way. It lies in the district of Göttingen, north of Bad Sachsa. The mountain top is crowned with a prominent 64 m high tower, which was built in 1970. This tower acted as a listening post during the Cold War; today it is used by Deutsche Telekom. The Ravensberg is a wonderful viewing point, and is also very easy to get to by car, a road about 3.5 km long, running up to the summit from Bad Sachsa. There is an old boundary stone, the Dreiherrenstein, on this road shortly before the summit. Until 1866 this was where the borders of the Kingdom of Prussia, Kingdom of Hanover and Duchy of Brunswick met. Today the Dreiherrenstein is the starting point for several walks, mountain bike routes and the South Harz cross-country skiing trail, that runs, for example, to the Stöberhai mountain and town of Braunlage. On the summit is a restaurant catering for day-trippers. There is also a skiing area with several downhill runs and 3 lifts.

The Steina Dam (German: Steinatalsperre) in the Harz Mountains of central Germany is a dam system comprising a dam, reservoir and waterworks near the village of Steina and belongs to the unincorporated area of Harz in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony. The dam was inaugurated on 19 November 1954 as a retention basin and has been a drinking water reservoir since 1958. Its 8.5 metre high dam impounds the Steina stream forming the Steina Reservoir (Steinastaubecken). It provides drinking water for the villages of Bad Sachsa, Osterhagen, Nüxei and Steina, which is why the surrounding woods are a water protection area.

Wieda is a village and a former municipality in the district of Göttingen, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Since 1 November 2016, it is part of the municipality Walkenried. Wieda is on River Wieda, a tributary of Zorge in the southern part of the Harz mountains.

Hellegrundbach is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. The Hellegrundbach springs northwest of Nüxei, a district of Bad Sachsa. Southwest of Nüxei, it discharges into the Ichte (upstream of this confluence called Steinacher Bach).

The Stöberhai is a mountain the Harz highlands in Central Germany, immediately south of the Oder Dam and northwest of Wieda. At a height of 720 m above sea level (NN) it is the highest mountain in the South Harz. The origin of the name is uncertain, but it is suggested, that a charcoal burner called Stöber may have had his charcoal store (Hai) here.

The Oder Dam (German: Odertalsperre) is a dam in the Harz mountains of Germany. It lies above Bad Lauterberg in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony and impounds the river Oder. The dam went into service in 1934 after taking 3 years to build. The owner and operator of the Oder Dam is the Harzwasserwerke.

The Wieda is a river in the German states of Lower Saxony and Thuringia. The Wieda has its source above the village of Wieda, flows through the village of Walkenried, the hamlet of Wiedigshof and the village of Gudersleben before discharging in the Harz river Zorge near Woffleben, a district of Ellrich. Its channel regularly dries up in the summer months - it sinks into the karst soil and reappears in other places as springs. Its most important tributary is the Uffe.

The Jagdkopf a hill, 603.1 m above sea level (NN) high, in the Harz Mountains of Germany. It is located between the villages of Wieda and Zorge in the unincorporated area of Harz in the district of Göttingen in the state of Lower Saxony.

Walkenried (German pronunciation: [valkənˈʁiːt]) is a municipality in the district of Göttingen, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated in the southern Harz, approx. 15 km south of Braunlage, and 15 km northwest of Nordhausen. Walkenried was the seat of the Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") Walkenried, which was abolished in November 2016 when Wieda and Zorge were incorporated into the municipality. The village was principally known as the location of Walkenried Abbey, the third Cistercian monastery established on German-speaking territory, founded in 1127 and secularised in 1668.

Osterhagen is a village near the town of Bad Lauterberg in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony, Germany. The village lies between Bad Lauterberg and Bad Sachsa. Not far from Osterhagen is the Weingartenloch, a supposed treasure cave. The Karstwanderweg passes nearby. Osterhagen lies on the Uerdingen line, in the traditional area of the Eastphalian language, a Low German dialect. Osterhagen lies not far from the border of Thuringia.

Walkenried Abbey (German: Kloster Walkenried) was a Cistercian abbey located in the village of Walkenried in Lower Saxony, Germany. Founded in 1127 on the southern rim of the Harz mountain range, the remnants of the monastic complex since 2010 are part of the Upper Harz Water Regale World Heritage Site.

The Walkenrieder Kreuzgangkonzerte have been the annual music festival of Walkenried Abbey in Lower Saxony Göttingen district since 1983. Since 2010, the Walkenried Abbey venue has been part of the World Heritage Site Upper Harz Water Regale.
