Leicester City Council is a unitary authority responsible for local government in the city of Leicester, England. It consists of 54 councillors, representing 22 wards in the city, overseen by a directly elected mayor. It is currently controlled by the Labour Party and has been led by Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby since his election on 6 May 2011. The main council building is City Hall on Charles Street, but council meetings are held in the 19th-century Town Hall. As a unitary authority, the council is responsible for running nearly all local services in Leicester with the exception of the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Constabulary which are run by joint boards with Leicestershire County Council and Rutland County Council.

The Belvoir Street Chapel, also known as the Pork Pie Chapel, and renamed Hansom Hall, was a Baptist church in Leicester, England.Leicester in the 19th century was known as the ‘Metropolis of Dissent’ with a large number of non-conformist chapels and churches. There have been numerous places of worship of various denominations, including the Baptists. Numerous chapels were built from the 17th century, many in the 19th century.The chapel on Belvoir Street in Leicester City Centre was designed by Joseph Hansom and built in 1845. It was sometimes called the 'Pork Pie Chapel' on account of its resemblance to a pork pie. It became a Grade II listed building (1361372) on 5 January 1950. The building was sold in 1947 after the congregation had united with that of the Charles Street Chapel. Renamed for its architect, it is used for adult education as part of the Leicester Vaughan College.

Sue Townsend Theatre (formerly the Phoenix Theatre, Phoenix Arts Centre and the Upper Brown Street Theatre) is a theatre in the city of Leicester, England. The centre hosts live shows and films of the arthouse and world cinema genres. Julian Wright is credited for his work to preserve the theatre from demolition in the 1980s and in the 2000s. In 2010, after a new Phoenix Square opened on the other side of the city centre, the space became the Upper Brown Street Theatre, a music training and performance venue. It has since been renamed the Sue Townsend Theatre, to honour the late Leicester author and playwright, Sue Townsend.

Leicester Town Hall stands in the city centre of Leicester, England, in a square which contains a fountain. The building, which contains a Bike Park, is the main office of the City of Leicester. It is a Grade II* listed building.

The Leicester Bike Park is a bicycle parking facility in Leicester Town Hall, England. It is managed by the City Council. Facilities include secure bike parking, showers, changing rooms, lockers, and advice. The Bike Park was developed as the result of research into public attitudes to cycling, carried out by Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire (then trading as Environ) in the 1990s. These studies showed that, in addition to the need for safe cycle routes, the lack of secure bike parking and changing facilities for commuters were barriers preventing people from cycling. The Bike Park was opened in 1997. Through the Bike Park and other initiatives, Leicester City has seen an 81% growth in commuter cycling (2004 to 2009) and the average daily number cycle journeys in the city has grown to 10,500.

Leicester's Corn Exchange stands in the City centre of Leicester, England. The exchange is sited at the centre of the Market Place and is a Grade II* listed building. The exchange currently operates as a Lloyds No. 1 bar. There have been buildings on the site since the 16th century. The present building was built in the 1850s by William Flint as a market place. In 1856 an upper floor and external stone staircase were added by F.W. Leicester ( (listen) LEST-ər) is a city, unitary authority area, unparished area and the county town of Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England. It is the largest settlement in the East Midlands. The city lies on the River Soar and close to the eastern end of the National Forest. It is situated to the north-east of Birmingham and Coventry, south of Nottingham and west of Peterborough. The population size has increased by 38,800 ( 11.8%) from around 329,800 in 2011 to 368,600 in 2021. The associated urban area is also the 11th most populous in England and the 13th most populous in the United Kingdom.Leicester is at the intersection of two railway lines: the Midland Main Line and the Birmingham to London Stansted Airport line. The Leicester Urban Area or Leicester Built Up Area (2011 onwards) is an urban agglomeration defined by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), centred on the City of Leicester in the English Midlands. With a population of 508,916 at the time of the 2011 census, the Built Up Area is the eleventh largest in England and thirteenth largest in the United Kingdom. It comprises Leicester itself and its suburbs, all of which are contiguous with, or situated in close proximity to, the city. As at 2011 the Leicester Urban Area was home to 51.8% of the total population of Leicestershire (2001: 48.5%). A 2017 quote from the Leicester City Council website states that "The Greater Leicester urban area is one of the fastest growing in the country, with a population of about 650,000, of which 350,000 live within the city council area".
