St Mary's Church, Swillington

Swillington is a village and civil parish near Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough. It is situated 5 miles (8 km) east from Leeds city centre, north of the River Aire, and is surrounded by streams including Fleakingley Beck. In 2001, Swillington had a population of about 3,530, reducing to 3,381 at the 2011 Census.The village forms part of the Garforth and Swillington ward of Leeds City Council and was a coal mining village until the closure of Primrose Hill pit. A housing estate now sits on the site of the colliery. The village is close to St Aidan's nature reserve, and the Leeds Country Way which passes through the village. The population of Swillington decreased to 3,088 in 2011.

St Aidan's is a 355 hectare (877 acres) nature park located between Leeds and Castleford in West Yorkshire, England. The land was formerly an opencast coal mining area that was flooded in 1988, after the riverbank collapsed. Repairs and remediation required their own Act of Parliament to allow the necessary works to go ahead. Mining ceased at St Aidan's in 2002.The nature park opened to the public in May 2013 under the care of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). However, the car park and visitor centre were subsequently closed in July 2013 due to unresolved land issues. With the successful transfer of St Aidan's to Leeds City Council, a 99-year lease was signed from the council to the RSPB in March 2017. The site is now open and functioning as an RSPB nature park. It is open every day excluding Christmas Day with the visitor centre open from 9.30 am to 5 pm February – October and 9.30 am to 4 pm November – January.RSPB St Aidan's Nature Park is designed for both people and wildlife and is open for a wide range of activities, from bird watching, cycling and walking to jogging, horse riding and dog walking.

Leeds East is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Richard Burgon of the Labour Party until his suspension and whip withdrawn on 23 July 2024, as a result of voting to scrap the two child benefit cap. He now sits as an Independent MP until the whip is re-established. The constituency was represented by Denis Healey from 1955 to 1992. Healey served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1974 to 1979 and latterly as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.

Methley railway station was opened in 1841 by the North Midland Railway on its line from Derby to Leeds. At one time, there were three railway stations in Methley and in 1950, British Railways renamed it Methley North. It closed in 1957. Slightly to the south, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway made a north-facing junction of its line from Knottingley and it built its own station (Methley Junction). This station opened on 1 October 1849 and closed on 4 October 1943. A third station was built by the Methley Joint Railway, a line in which the L&YR, the GNR and the NER were shareholders. This station, opened on 1 May 1869, known as Methley Joint station was closed as Methley South on 7 March 1960.

Woodlesford railway station serves Woodlesford and Rothwell in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the Hallam Line and the Pontefract Line, 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Leeds.

Brown Moor is an area in the metropolitan borough of the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England, east of Austhorpe and north of Colton. The M1 motorway and the A63 road pass it on its eastern flank and the A6120 road in the south. The area is named after a nearby hill. A colliery operated here in the 19th century and was accessed by a spur off the Leeds and Selby Railway, but was already disused in the early 20th century. At that time, some cottages had been erected nearby. Those had been sold by 2002 when Thorpe Park was established in the area.A length of Grim's Ditch is preserved underground north of Barrowby Lane and to the west of the former farmstead and is a scheduled monument.

Thorpe Park Leeds or simply Thorpe Park is a business park located near Brown Moor, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Companies that are headquartered in Thorpe Park include Northern Gas Networks, Boost Drinks and Pharmacy2U. The Thorpe Park railway station is anticipated to open in the area in 2024. The overall development of the business park is expected to be complete by 2035.

Great Preston is a small rural village in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, West Yorkshire, England. It has incorporated the once neighbouring hamlet of Little Preston.

Kippax railway station was a railway station on the Castleford–Garforth line in West Yorkshire, England. The station opened in 1878 and closed to passengers in 1951, although the line remained open for a further 18 years for diversions and goods traffic.

Garforth Academy (formerly known as Garforth Comprehensive School until September 1992 and Garforth Community College until November 2010) is a secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11–18 and is located on Lidgett Lane (B6137) in Garforth, West Yorkshire, England. The school been awarded the Artsmark (2002), Investors in People Award, (2003), Schools Achievement Award, (2003), Education Extra award, (2001), Sportsmark (2002), and Beacon School status (2000), and OFSTED described the school in 2010 (before it changed to academy status) as an "outstanding school".

Colton is a district of east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, situated between Cross Gates to the north, Halton and Halton Moor to the west, Whitkirk to the north-west and Austhorpe to the north-east. Temple Newsam lies directly south of the estate. The area falls within the Temple Newsam ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds East parliamentary constituency. The small Whitkirk Lane End estate (which is situated between Colton Road and Colton Roundabout) is often considered more part of the Colton district than Whitkirk, because of its separation from Whitkirk via Selby Road, and its proximity to Colton Road.
