St. John's Church is a church on Barrow Island, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England.

The Devonshire Buildings are two adjacent apartment buildings in the Barrow Island area of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. They are both recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated Grade II* listed buildings.Constructed in the 1870s for the Barrow Iron Ship Building Company to house local shipyard workers, the buildings are nearly symmetrical and have octagonal towers at the end of each block. The buildings are similar to tenements in Glasgow, Scotland, which were inspired by housing in France. Between 2008 and 2013 Devonshire Buildings were extensively refurbished by the Holker Group.Similar tenements exist across Barrow Island, with those on Barque, Brig, Sloop and Steamer Streets also having listed building status. The Vickerstown estate on Walney Island was constructed between 1898 and 1901 in an effort to relieve overcrowding in the Barrow Island tenements, which had already seen some shipyard workers forced to live aboard the liner SS Alaska, which was moored in Barrow docks.

The Port of Barrow refers to the enclosed dock system within the town of Barrow-in-Furness, England. Morecambe Bay is to the east of the port and the Irish Sea surrounds it to the south and west. The port is currently owned and operated by Associated British Ports Holdings, but some land is shared with BAE Systems Submarine Solutions. Currently consisting of four large docks, the Port of Barrow is one of North West England's most important ports. The docks are as follows: Buccleuch Dock, Cavendish Dock, Devonshire Dock and Ramsden Dock. The port of Barrow is the only deep water port between the Mersey and the Clyde.Barrow shipyard is one of the largest in the United Kingdom (it has built well over 800 vessels in its history), rivalled only by those in Belfast, Birkenhead and Govan. It is also home to the country's only submarine production facility. The port is heavily involved with the transportation of natural gases and other forms of energy from local sites such as Sellafield, Barrow Offshore Windfarm, Ormonde Wind Farm, Rampside Gas Terminal and Roosecote Power Station. Barrow is also becoming increasingly popular as a port of call for cruise liners visiting the town and the Lake District. James Fisher & Sons are the main company to operate out of the port.

The VSEL Heavy Engineering Workshop located at Michaelson Road in the Barrow Island area of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England is a Grade II listed former ammunitions workshop that belonged to Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering. Known locally as the 'Gun Shop' the vast complex was constructed in stages between 1875 and 1900 and consists of 42 by 11 bays (roughly 1,100 feet (335 m) by 360 feet (110 m) or over 9 acres (3.6 ha) of land - a larger footprint than nearby Devonshire Dock Hall). The building was a major component of the engineering division within Vickers and supplied the British Army and Royal Navy throughout World War I and World War II. Everything from basic shells to heavy duty gun turrets for ships, tanks and other land vehicles were produced and assembled at the workshop. The Historic England states the following of the building: 'It clearly indicates the scale of operation of the shipbuilding and engineering works at the turn of the century; its roadside frontages make a major contribution to the industrial scene in a town where the buildings of other major C19 industries have been almost completely swept away.' The Gun Works is now owned by BAE Systems which operates their Submarine and Land & Armaments divisions in Barrow.

Barrow Island is an area and electoral ward of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Originally separate from the British mainland, land reclamation in the 1860s saw the northern fringes of the island connected to Central Barrow. Barrow Island is also bound to the south and east by the town's dock system and to the west by Walney Channel. The Ward population taken at the 2011 census was 2,616.

Princess Selandia was a Danish train ferry which had a long career on the Great Belt and the Baltic Sea, after which she became a restaurant and nightclub ship, at one time moored in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Built for DSB, the Danish State Railway, she began service as Dronning Ingrid (Queen Ingred) on the Korsør – Nyborg route in April 1951. She subsequently operated on several Danish inter-island and Denmark-Germany routes. In August 1979 she was renamed Sjælland, although portraits of the Danish Royal Family remained in the state cabin on board. For a time she plied between Malmö, Sweden and Copenhagen. In 1985 she was rented out to Danish Radio and TV as a studio and used as the setting for Danish TV show "Kajplads 114" (Berth 114) in Copenhagen.In 1988 she became a museum and restaurant ship and was sold to English interests in April 2002, being moved to Tilbury, England and renamed Selandia. Following purchase by Rick Lucas in June 2004, she was sailed from Tilbury to Barrow-in-Furness for a £2 million, nine-month refurbishment and renamed Princess Selandia. The whole freight deck, which once carried trains, was converted to "The Blue Lagoon" - a 2,500-capacity nightclub. The night club operated from Town Quay, Buccleuch Dock, Barrow-in-Furness until 16 August 2010. She also had an a la carte restaurant, casino and beer garden. On 9 October 2010 a fire started aboard the Princess Selandia. On 14 July 2015 she left Barrow-in-Furness for Frederikshavn, Denmark, for scrapping.

Michaelson Road Bridge is a road bridge connecting Central Barrow to Barrow Island in south Cumbria, England. The original high-level bridge was a swing bridge and then replaced by a pair of lift and roll bridges constructed between 1800 and 1884 then superseded by a more modern pair of bascule bridges in the mid 1960s. It was built at a time when Barrow Island was actually an island and there was strong call for road access between mainland Barrow at the shipyard on Barrow Island. Traffic on the bridge was soon relieved when an old Victorian dock was filled in and space was created for the huge Devonshire Dock Hall complex, traffic now runs along the north side of the building on the A590. Trams formerly operated across the bridge, but now it solely used for vehicles and pedestrians. A second Devonshire Dock footbridge is planned in the multimillion-pound Waterfront Barrow-in-Furness development.

Barrow-in-Furness Strand railway station was the first permanent railway terminus to be built in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Located on the Strand at St. George's Square close to the town's docks its functioning life was short, however the building itself continued to be used as the headquarters of the Furness Railway for a number of years. The station opened in 1863 having replaced a wooden structure which was erected in 1846 at adjacent Rabbit Hill. The station at St. George's square ceased commercial operations in 1882 upon the completion of a new loop line and much larger station at Abbey Road. Barrow-in-Furness Central railway station, later simply renamed Barrow-in-Furness railway station has been the town's primary station ever since. The railway station building is Grade II listed and spent most of its later life as a working men's club.

Schneider Square is a square located at the intersection of Duke Street, Dalton Road, Michaelson Road, Burlington Street and Fisher's Yard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Schneider Square has changed little since its construction in the mid-19th century and now lies within a conservation area. Named after Henry Schneider who played a major role in the development of Barrow, there is a statue commemorating the industrialist in the centre of the square. Located on, or immediately adjacent to Schneider Square are Barrow Town Hall, Craven House, former Barrow Higher Grade School, Hotel Majestic, Burlington House and Duke Street Surgery.

Alfred Barrow Health Centre is a primary care health centre in Barrow-in-Furness. It is housed in a refurbishment of the former Alfred Barrow School with a newly built extension housing the patient-facing services and all clinical spaces. It was developed by a public private partnership, eLIFT Cumbria, involving Community Health Partnerships. It has a base for the North West Ambulance Service. The contractor was ESH Construction. It opened in November 2019 with a celebration event.It houses three GP surgeries - Abbey Road Surgery, Risedale Surgery, Atkinson Health Centre - and services provided by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust as well as facilities for Morecambe Bay CCG, BAE Systems and Boots Pharmacy.

The Higher Grade School building in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England is Grade II listed and has functioned as a number of educational institutions throughout its long history. From completion until 1930 the building was occupied by the Barrow Higher Grade School.

Devonshire Dock is the oldest of the four docks which make up the Port of Barrow in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Although the dock falls under the control of Associated British Ports it is currently solely utilised by BAE Systems. Upon completion of the dock, Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone stated 'Barrow would one day become another Liverpool'. Although its shipbuilding capabilities have exceeded those on Merseyside, the port and dock system itself never fully met James Ramsden's grand vision for the town.Construction of Devonshire Dock commenced in 1863 and was funded by the Furness Railway, which at the time controlled the new town's economy (iron ore extraction and transportation). Construction involved reshaping an existing narrow channel between Barrow Island and the British mainland and was completed in 1867, this was followed in 1872 by the adjacent Buccleuch Dock which was built to the same specification allowing vessels up to 200 metres (656 ft) to berth.A large portion of Devonshire Dock was filled in during the 1980s to create more land for Barrow's growing shipyard. The majority of the land is now occupied by Devonshire Dock Hall a large indoor submarine building complex that has enabled the construction of all Royal Navy Vanguard-class and Astute-class submarines.
