Garn-yr-Erw railway station served the village of Garn-yr-erw, in the historical county of Monmouthshire, Wales, from 1913 to 1941 on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway.

Garn-yr-erw is a village in south-eastern Wales, lying at the source of the Afon Llwyd north of Blaenavon and Pontypool, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. The village lies at an altitude of approx 400 metres on the side of Gilwern Hill, Monmouthshire and is cited by the Ordnance Survey as the highest village in Wales.The village had a station on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway from 1913 until the line's closure in 1941.

The Dyne Steel Incline was a steam-powered tramroad that carried tram loads of cast iron up and over the hill between the Blaenavon Ironworks and Pwll Du. From there the trams continued along Hill's Tramroad to the Garnddyrys Forge and on to the Llanfoist wharf. It operated from around 1850 to 1860.

Big Pit Halt railway station is a railway station on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway heritage line, adjacent to Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon, Wales. The station opened on 6 April (Good Friday) 2012, however the line to Big Pit actually opened on Friday 16 September 2011. The single track line and station opened specifically for tourists visiting the museum.

Big Pit National Coal Museum (Welsh: Pwll Mawr Amgueddfa Lofaol Cymru) is an industrial heritage museum in Blaenavon, Torfaen, Wales. A working coal mine from 1880 to 1980, it was opened to the public in 1983 as a charitable trust called the Big Pit (Blaenavon) Trust. By 1 February 2001 Big Pit Coal Museum was incorporated into the National Museums and Galleries of Wales as the National Mining Museum of Wales. The site is dedicated to operational preservation of the Welsh heritage of coal mining, which took place during the Industrial Revolution. Located adjacent to the preserved Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, Big Pit is part of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape, a World Heritage Site, and an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Waenavon railway station, also known as Waen Avon, was a station on the Brynmawr and Blaenavon Railway in South East Wales. To the south of the station a short line served Milfraen Colliery. At an altitude of 1,392 feet (424 m) above sea level, Waenavon was the highest railway station on a standard gauge line in Wales. It was the highest on the London, Midland and Scottish Railway following the closure of Leadhills in 1939.

Coity Mountain (also spelled Coety Mountain, Welsh: Mynydd Coety) is a flat-topped mountain in the South Wales Valleys, between Blaenavon and Abertillery. The highest points of both Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent unitary authorities are at the summit of Coity Mountain. The summit is also known as Twyn Ffynhonnau Goerion. Some 2 km (1 mi) to the southeast lies a major subsidiary top of the hill, Mynydd Varteg Fawr (549m) at the southeastern end of whose broad ridge is a trig point at 544m. A few hundred metres to the southeast of this summit is a memorial known as the Dog Stone which commemorates Carlo the Red Setter, a dog shot accidentally by his master while hunting on the 12 August 1864. Co-ordinates for the Dog Stone 51.45'15.58N 3.05'08.81W. Other notable tops include those of Mulfran (524m) (Welsh for cormorant, pronounced 'mill-vran') which overlooks the town of Brynmawr and Mynydd James immediately east of the town of Blaina. Much of the mountain, including the summit is included in the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site, and a labyrinth of coal mines, including Big Pit National Coal Museum lies under the mountain.

Clydach railway station was a station on the London and North Western Railway's Heads of the Valleys line near the village of Clydach in the Welsh county of Brecknockshire.

Clydach is a village in Monmouthshire, Wales. Its nearest neighbours are the village of Gilwern and town of Abergavenny.

Forge Side (Welsh: Ger yr Efail) was the site of an ironworks started in 1836. The development was soon abandoned, but resumed in 1859. A settlement of houses was built for the workers. The rows of workers' cottages, a chapel, and a few other buildings are all that remain. The small village is 0.5 miles south-west of Blaenavon 0.5 miles south-east of Big Pit, and is in the community of Blaenavon, in the north of Torfaen county borough, in South east Wales.

The Pwll Du Tunnel was the longest horse-powered tramway tunnel to be built in Britain at 1,875 metres (6,152 ft) in length. It started in Blaenavon, Torfaen, Wales, and was originally a coal mine, running northward almost horizontally into a hillside. Later it was extended right through the hill and used to carry limestone from quarries at Pwll Du and Tyla to the ironworks at Blaenavon, and to carry pig iron from Blaenavon to the Garnddyrys Forge. The tramway was extended past Garnddyrys to Llanfoist Wharf on the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal. The tramway from Pwll Du to the canal fell out of use when the railway came to Blaenavon and the Garnddyrys forge was closed in 1860, but the tunnel continued to be used to carry limestone to Blaenavon until 1926. It is now a scheduled monument and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Pwll Du (meaning a black or dark pool or pit) was a village in Monmouthshire, Wales. It was declared a slum in 1960 and demolished in 1963. The main employment was provided by nearby limestone quarries and by the iron works in Blaenavon. The Pwll Du Tunnel from Blaenavon, once the longest horse-powered tramway in Britain, ended near the village. A pub and the former Welfare Hall, now a school's outdoor pursuits centre, are all that are left standing.
