Muirtown (Gaelic: Baile an Fhraoich) is an area in the west end of the city of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. It contains the Muirtown basin and Muirtown Primary School. An expansion of the Caledonian Canal close to its northeastern termination, the Muirtown Basin lies between Clachnaharry and Muirtown a mile (1.5 km) northwest of Inverness city centre. Planned in the early 19th century as a second harbour for the city by the canal's engineer Thomas Telford (1757–1834), it could not cope with the size of ships which were soon in use and thus never fulfilled its potential. It now serves as a marina. Immediately to the south of the basin are the Muirtown Locks, a flight of four locks on the Caledonian Canal at Muirtown, a mile (1.5 km) west northwest of Inverness city centre. The Muirtown Swing Bridge crosses the canal immediately to the north. In popular culture In the John Buchan novel Mr Standfast, Muirtown is the scene of an episode in the adventures of Richard Hannay as he seeks to avoid the Scottish police while simultaneously hunting a spy.

MFR is an Independent Local Radio station based in Inverness, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio Network. It broadcasts to Moray and the Inverness area. Previously, it broadcast to the Scottish Highlands and South West Aberdeenshire, but this ceased on 11th December 2023 when the 1107 kHZ AM transmitter at Tarbet Ness was switched off. As of September 2023, the station has a weekly audience of 101,000 listeners according to RAJAR.

Glen Albyn distillery was a Scotch malt whisky distillery in Inverness, Scotland and operated from 1846 to 1983. Glen Albyn whiskey brand was relaunched in 2022.It was founded in 1846 by James Sutherland, who was Provost of Inverness at the time. The previous owner was the global multinational Diageo which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange with assets of $49 billion.Glen Albyn closed in 1983 and was demolished in 1988. Glen Albyn whisky brand was relaunched in December 2022 and its honorary president is Lord French, Baron de Freyne.

Telford Street Park was a football ground in Inverness, Scotland. It was the home ground of Caledonian F.C. and latterly Caledonian Thistle F.C.

Clachnaharry railway station served the village of Clachnaharry, Highland, Scotland from 1868 to 1913 on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway.

The Battle of Clachnaharry was a Scottish clan battle that took place in the year 1454. It was fought between the Clan Munro and the Clan Mackintosh (Chattan Confederation) on the south bank of the Beauly Firth at Clachnaharry, on the outskirts of Inverness.

Clachnaharry (; Scottish Gaelic: Clach na h-Aithrigh) is a former fishing village, now part of the city of Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. Clachnaharry is situated on the south shore of the Beauly Firth, about 2 miles (3 km) west of the city centre. The village was often wrongly said to have derived its name from the Gaelic Clach na Faire, 'watchman's stone' which refers to nearby rocks used as a look out post by the townsfolk of Inverness. The recent book "The Gaelic Place Names and Heritage of Inverness" by Roddy Maclean, however, has pointed out the name in fact derives from Clach na h-Aithrigh, Stone of Repentance. The Caledonian Canal begins at Clachnaharry, connecting to the Beauly Firth via a sea lock. The Far North Line also passes through, crossing the canal on a swing bridge. Clachnaharry used to have a railway station. This station opened in 1869 on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway, and was the first stop after leaving Inverness, but closed in 1913. A monument here commemorates the Battle of Clachnaharry between the Clan Munro and the Clan Chattan in 1454.

Scorguie (; Scottish Gaelic: Sgor Gaoithe, meaning "The Windy Ridge") is an area of the city of Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is situated in the city's north-west, on the west bank of the Caledonian Canal, and is often considered a suburb to the city. For most of the city's history, Scorguie was a large tract of farmland tied to an area known as "Knockgurr". Throughout the 19th century it was owned by the Duffs of Muirtown, along with a small portion of nearby Merkinch. The farm appears in a court report from 1857, in which it states crofters renting the land were to pay "£90 a year" (roughly £9,200 today).After centuries of existence as pastureland, housing projects in Scorguie began sometime after the Second World War. As of 2018, the population is close to 3,000, with roughly 1,500 individual dwellings. Scorguie is home to Moray Firth Radio (MFR) station, established in 1982 as the Highland's first major radio station. The neighbourhood also contains Muirtown Primary School, with high school students attending Charleston Academy in neighbouring Kinmylies.

South Kessock (Scottish Gaelic: Ceasag a Deas, meaning "Ceasag's Place") is an area of the city of Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is situated to the city's north at the mouth of the River Ness. It is a traditionally working-class area. The neighbourhood borders on Merkinch and is also known, somewhat disparagingly, as the Ferry. This refers to the now-defunct ferry service running from South to North Kessock, across the Beauly Firth. The ferry operated for over 500 years, prior to the opening of the Kessock Bridge in 1982. Early in the evening of 23 February 1894, the Kessock Ferry was caught in a storm leading to the deaths of three ferrymen and three coastguards attempting to rescue them. The tragedy was immortalised by the poet William McGonagall in The Kessack Ferry-Boat Fatality. The name Kessock derives from the Gaelic Ceasag, the name of an ancient Christian saint once living in the area. South Kessock features in two novels by local author Alex Mabon: The Lads from the Ferry and War of the Ferry.

Balnafettack (Scottish Gaelic: Baile nam Feadag: Farm of the Plovers) is an area in the north west of Inverness located in the Scottish Highlands. It is named after the farm upon which the present residential housing is built. It sits above Scorguie and was the final area on the West-side of Inverness to be developed due to its proximity to the steep crags of Craig Phadraig. The Vitrified fort at the top of Craig Phadraig is accessed from Balnafettack.

Kinmylies ( KIN-mi-leez) is an area in the west end of the city of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The area sits between the side of the hill Craig Phadrig (Gaelic for Patrick's Rock); and the Caledonian Canal. The local football team was Caledonian F.C. until they merged with another team (Inverness Thistle) to form Inverness Caledonian Thistle and moved out of the area. The name Kinmylies originates from the Scots Gaelic Ceann a' Mhìlidh, meaning Head (or place) of the Warriors. The area appears in the 1841 census onwards but in the 1970s became built up initially as housing for key workers, who were encouraged to move to the area to aid its growth. Kinmylies houses Charleston Academy; a secondary School with a local catchment area, and additionally villages surrounding the city; such as Beauly and Drumnadrochit. The area also shares its name with the local primary school, Kinmylies Primary. It is the hometown of actress Karen Gillan. Merkinch (Scottish Gaelic: Marc-Innis, meaning "Island of the Horse") is an area of the city of Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Inverness, it's situated in the city's north-west flanked by the Caledonian Canal to its west and River Ness to its east. It is a traditionally working-class area. In Merkinch is Grant Street Park, home to Clachnacuddin Football Club, and Merkinch Primary School, one of the oldest schools in the city. In February 2020, Merkinch was ranked as the number 8th most deprived area in Scotland, in a report by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD). Residents immediately leapt to defend their community. Notably, Merkinch was one of the last areas in Inverness to retain the city's own dialect of Scottish Gaelic.
