Ragdale Hall

Twenty Acre Piece is an 8.1-hectare (20-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and registered common land east of Loughborough in Leicestershire.This site has grassland, scrub and wood on poorly drained acidic clay. The woodland is mainly hawthorn, oak and ash, and there are diverse populations of breeding invertebrates and birds.There is access to the site by a neglected and overgrown footpath.

Hoby with Rotherby is a civil parish in Leicestershire, England. In the 2001 census it had a population of 594, reducing to 556 at the time of the 2011 census. It includes the villages of Hoby, Rotherby, Ragdale and Brooksby. The parish is part of Melton local government district, and within the Rutland and Melton constituency. There is a Parish Council for Hoby with Rotherby that manages the area. It meets six times a year and the meetings are open to the public.

Home Farm is an historic farmhouse in Old Dalby, Leicestershire, England. It was built in 1635 and is a Grade II listed building. Dating to the Georgian period, it was substantially enlarged in 1835, when it became home farm to the nearby Old Hall. The building stands directly opposite the church of St John the Baptist, a Grade II* listed building.

The Melton Mowbray Navigation was formed when the River Wreake in Leicestershire, England, was made navigable upstream from its junction with the River Soar and the Leicester Navigation near Syston to Melton Mowbray, opening in 1797. Largely river navigation, there were numerous lock cuts, to accommodate the 12 broad locks built along its length, many of which were built at sites where it was necessary to maintain the water levels for an adjacent mill. With railway competition, and the closure of the Oakham Canal, to which it was connected, decline was rapid, and the canal closed in 1877. Two hundred years after it was opened, the Melton & Oakham Waterways Society was formed, with the aim of returning the navigation to a navigable waterway once more.

Dalby Preceptory, also known as Dalby and Heather Preceptory, was a preceptory of the Knights Hospitaller, in the village of Old Dalby, Leicestershire, England.

Old Dalby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Broughton and Old Dalby, in the Melton district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is located to the north-west of Melton Mowbray. It was originally known as "Wold Dalby" or "Dalby on the Wolds". In 1931 the parish had a population of 315. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished to form "Broughton and Old Dalby".

Brooksby Hall is a late–16th-century manor house on 3.2 square kilometres (800 acres) of land between Leicester and Melton Mowbray. Situated 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) northeast of Leicester, the hall and the neighbouring church of St Michael and All Angels are the last remnants of the medieval village of Brooksby, which was founded during the period of the Danelaw in the 9th century AD. In the 15th and 16th centuries Brooksby was depopulated by enclosures carried out by the estate's owners, which turned its cultivated land into sheep pastures in order to profit from a boom in wool. A 31-acre garden adjoins the hall, leading down to the River Wreake and the railway line from Leicester to Peterborough. The hall, which is Grade II* listed, was occupied for centuries by the Villiers family and later by Admiral David Beatty, the British commander at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. It is now part of the Brooksby Melton College and is also used as a wedding and conference venue.

Brooksby is a deserted village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Hoby with Rotherby, in the Melton district, in Leicestershire, England. It was the ancestral home of the Villiers family. Brooksby and surrounding villages were served by Brooksby railway station. In 1931 the parish had a population of 69.The name 'Brooksby' means 'farm/settlement of Brok' or 'farm/settlement with a brook'.On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished to form Hoby with Rotherby.Brooksby Hall, a 16th-century manor house, and the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Brooksby, are all that remains of a village that was cleared to enable sheep to be grazed. The church was once the living for Henry Gregg who was married to the writer Mary Kirby. Today the hall has conference and banqueting facilities. Brooksby Melton College offers apprenticeships and further education training courses in animal care, countryside, equine, fisheries, and land based service engineering.
