Lozen Monastery

Lozen (Bulgarian: Лозен) is a village in located in the Stolichna Municipality of Sofia City Province, Bulgaria.

Pancharevo (Bulgarian: Панчарево, pronounced [pant͡ʃɐˈrɛvo], also transcribed as Pančarevo) is a resort village and district located on the outskirts of Sofia close to Vitosha, Lozenska and Plana mountains and occupies the southeastern part of the Capital Municipality.As of 2011 the village has 3,433 inhabitants, but the district has about 28,000 inhabitants. It is the largest region in Sofia with a total area of 3,647 km2 (1,408 sq mi). It includes the largest artificial lake in Bulgaria Lake Pancharevo, also as Iskar Reservoir and Pasarel Reservoir, located one above the other. The districts consists of 10 villages, and Pancharevo is the municipal seat: The district offers excellent conditions for relaxation and tourism for the citizens of the capital. The large dams are used for water sports, fishing, camping and boat trips. There are many historical sights from the Middle Ages which include the ruins of the Urvich fortress which was the site of a desperate and unsuccessful battle against the Turkish invaders in the late 14th century. There are many monasteries and chapels, of which some lie in ruins since the fall of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The village of Pancharevo is located 12 km southeast of the city center of Sofia, along Samokovsko shosse str. It lies at 700 m. above sea level between Vitosha and Lozen mountains, and at the end of the Pancharevo gorge of Iskar River. In Pancharevo Vitoshka Bistritsa River, sloping steeply from the highest parts of the mountain, flows into Lake Pancharevo. Pancharevo has modern suburban houses for all-year living as well as gated residence areas, and has easy access to the Sofia Ring Road, Business Park Sofia, Tsarigradsko shosse, Sofia Airport, Samokov and Borovets.

Balsha is a village in Sofia Oblast (the capital region) in Bulgaria. It has a population of 719 people (2024) and lies at 617 metres of altitude - located right at the beginning and at the westernmost part of the Stara Planina mountain range.

Vrana Palace (Bulgarian: Дворец "Врана", Dvorets "Vrana"; formerly Враня; Vranya) is a former royal palace, on the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It is today the official residence of former royal family of Bulgaria. While the Royal Palace in the centre of Sofia (today the National Art Gallery and National Ethnographic Museum) served representative purposes and the Euxinograd Palace near Varna was a summer residence, Vrana was the palace where the royal family of Bulgaria spent most of their time. Vrana Palace is situated at an elevation of 571 m.It includes the site of Chardakli farm, where there was a bridge which featured in the liberation of Sofia.

Bistritsa or Vitoshka Bistritsa (Bulgarian: Бистрица; Витошка Бистрица; Бистришка река), is a river in western Bulgaria, tributary of Iskar River. It flows from the eastern slopes of Golyam Rezen Peak on Vitosha Mountain, crossing Bistrishko Branishte Nature Reserve, where it forms a small but beautiful waterfall, known as Samokovishteto, then crossing the villages of Bistritsa and Pancharevo to flow into Lake Pancharevo, near Sofia. Additional charm of the area offer several artificial waterfalls in the lower reaches of the river.

Kazichene (Bulgarian: Казичене [kɐˈzit͡ʃɛnɛ]) is a large village in the Pancharevo district to the east of the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. As of 2007, the village officially had 4,977 inhabitants. Because of its close proximity to the Sofia ring road and the nearby railroad, over the past decade the area has developed into an industrial-storage zone with a logistics center and offices of a number of prominent companies such as Werta Logistics, Balkan Steel Engineering, and the Chipita snacks factory.There is a large lake near Kazichene where the Litex water park is located. Built in the mid-1980s, today the park is the only place in Bulgaria offering boatless water skiing and wakeboarding.The village has a single football club, FC Kazichene, playing in the Bulgarian fourth division, known as the A OFG. Several prominent footballers have ended their careers there, including Emil Kremenliev and Ivan Vasilev. The town is also known for being the birthplace of Plamen Krumov, a current Levski Sofia footballer, and Borislav Stoyanov, who plays for SV Schwarzhofen. Kazichene Cove on Low Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is named after Kazichene.

Urvich (also known as Kokalyane Urvich because nearest village - Kokalyane) is a medieval fortress in the territory of today's quarter Pancharevo, heir to the village of Glavishevo. It is located on the right riverside of Iskar River, in the hill of "Sredobardie", in the Lozen mountain, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Sofia downtown on the road to Samokov. In this region there is a river meander, which has been declared a natural landmark. The fortress was probably built in the 13th century during the Second Bulgarian Empire and its Emperor Ivan Shishman, called by the local population "Jasen" recent battles against the Ottomans. He has led and it is named and scenic road in the foothills of Vitosha mountain - from Boyana, through Bistrica, Pancharevo and Kokalyane, locality of Prosechenik, to the mouth of the estuary river Vedena in Iskar - Yassenov King Road whereby "Urvich" establishes a permanent connection with Vitosha fortresses" of Bistrica and Battil - Boyana. This region is the intersection of Vitosha, Plana and Lozen Mountains, where, at the Devil's Bridge, in the opposite site of Urvich had guard towers and mobile access bridge to the fortress. Urvich Wall on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is named after the fortress of Urvich.

Lake Pancharevo (Панчаревско езеро, Pancharevsko ezero or Язовир Панчарево, Pancharevo Reservoir) is an artificial lake in western Bulgaria, at the end of the Pancharevo Gorge of the Iskar River, located at 600 m above sea level between the Vitosha and Lozenska mountains. It is 3 km long and up to 700 m wide, reaching a depth of 30 m, and is situated 12 km southeast of the capital city of Sofia, where the Vitoshka Bistritsa flows into the Iskar. The villages of Pancharevo and Kokalyane and the Pancharevo mineral springs lies on the lake's western shore, while at the southern end of the lake there is a hydroelectric power station. Sports centres and catering establishments have been constructed around the lake, making it a favoured outing location for the residents of Sofia. Further upstream in the gorge there are two additional artificial lakes: the Pasarel Reservoir and the Iskar Reservoir. The lake was created in 1956 in connection with the construction of Hydrohub "Iskar", as a drinking, irrigation and energy source for the Sofia Agglomeration. The (Sredets) National Rowing Base is located on the shore of Lake Pancharevo. Built in 1968, the rowing base is the first modern facility in Bulgaria, specializing in conducting training and competitions in rowing events. In 1977 it hosted the World Cup canoe in the capital, and in 1981, the World Championships for young people in water sports. Over the years, it has been host to several world championships, national and international rowing regattas, and the European Triathlon Championships.

Sofia Iztok Thermal Power Plant (Bulgarian: ТЕЦ София Изток) is a power plant situated at the eastern edge of the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. It has an installed capacity of 186 MW.

Krivina (Bulgarian: Кривина) is a village in located in the Stolichna Municipality of Sofia City Province, Bulgaria.

Iskar (Bulgarian: Искър [ˈiskɐr]) is a district located in the eastern parts of Sofia. As of 2006 it has 69,896 inhabitants and has an area of 25,6 km2. It includes four neighbourhoods: "Druzhba 1", "Druzhba 2", "Dimitar Milenkov" and Abdovitsa as well as the village of Busmantsi. The district also includes the "Gara Iskar" industrial zone which is situated around the railway station of the same name. Vrana Palace is situated in Iskar District. There is a spacious park with rare tree species and a lake. There are 3 churches including one in Busmantsi.

The Anglo-American School in Sofia (AAS) is a private school founded in 1967 in Sofia under the sponsorship of the American and British embassies. In 2005 the school was incorporated by virtue of an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the United States of America.
