Hamilton Grammar School is a secondary school serving Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Its predecessors can trace their history back to 1452. With the introduction of comprehensive schools and the abolition of selective schools such as Hamilton Academy in the early-1970s, Hamilton Grammar School was formed as a new school, using the buildings of the former Hamilton Academy and the nearby St. John's Grammar School.The current Hamilton Grammar building was built in 1913 as the Hamilton Academy building. The building underwent an £8,000,000 improvement in 1995, when the original building was retained and fully renovated, with an additional building extension attached to the rear. The new building contains science and technical facilities. In 2004, a communication development unit was added to the school. A new Physical Education centre was built at the rear of the school. Building work started in June 2008 and was completed for August 2009. This replaced the old Physical Education department which was at the back of St John's Primary School. The current head teacher is Graeme Sives who joined the school on 3 May 2016, replacing the retired Head Teacher, Colin Stewart.Notable former pupils include The Reverend Scott J Brown, formerly Chaplain of the Fleet, Royal Navy who was a pupil from 1980 to 1985 and Scottish international footballer Davie Cooper.

Hamilton railway station was one of several railway stations to serve the town of Hamilton, Scotland. It was opened on 1 April 1878 by the Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway. It was operated by the North British Railway, which under the Railways Act 1921 became part of the London and North Eastern Railway. The station was temporarily closed from 1 January 1917, reopening on 2 June 1919.On 1 January 1948, the Transport Act 1947 took effect, and all main line railways in Britain were nationalized and became part of British Railways. British Railways closed the station, and others on the line for good on 15 September 1952. Almost no trace of the station's existence remains, however, there is a bridge on Union Street which the line passed under, located near the site of the old station. Hamilton today is served by three stations on the Argyle Line. Services are provided by ScotRail.

It serves as the main administrative centre of the South Lanarkshire council area. It sits 10 miles (16 km) south-east of Glasgow, 37 miles (60 km) south-west of Edinburgh and 74 miles (120 km) north of Carlisle. It is situated on the south bank of the River Clyde at its confluence with the Avon Water. Hamilton is the county town of the historic county of Lanarkshire and is the location of the headquarters of the modern local authority of South Lanarkshire. The town itself has a population of around 55,000, which makes it the 8th largest settlement in Scotland. It forms a large urban area with nearby towns of Blantyre, Motherwell, Larkhall and Wishaw.

Hamilton West railway station serves the Hamilton West area of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, in Scotland, lying on the Argyle Line. It is situated near the headquarters of South Lanarkshire Council; the Hamilton campus of the University of the West of Scotland; Hamilton Sheriff Court; and the Hamilton Racecourse. It is situated next to New Douglas Park, home to Hamilton Academical Football Club. The station is operated by ScotRail Trains who also provide all passenger services.

The Battle of Hieton was fought on the 1 December 1650 between a force of Scottish Remonstrants under Colonel Gilbert Ker and 1,000 English commanded by Major-general John Lambert. The site of the battle was by the Cadzow Burn, near the present day town centre of Hamilton, Scotland. The Scots attacked, surprising the English, but were beaten back and destroyed as a fighting force. The battle was part of the Anglo-Scottish war of 1650–1652.

Douglas Park was a football stadium in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, the home ground of Hamilton Academical from 1888 to 1994.The stadium holds the record for Hamilton Academical's largest ever attendance, 28,690 people against Hearts in 1937. Douglas Park also played host to Clyde between 1991 and 1994, as that club awaited the building of their new ground in Cumbernauld, Broadwood Stadium. Hamilton ceased playing first team matches at Douglas Park at the end of the 1993–94 season. The club continued to use the stadium for reserve team matches until January 1995, as the sale of the ground was not completed until December 1994. Douglas Park was then redeveloped as a Sainsbury's supermarket. Turnstiles were sold to Falkirk and part of the main stand was sold to Auchinleck Talbot for £30,000. The only part of the old ground that Hamilton Academical retained was the floodlights. A new stadium, called New Douglas Park, was built immediately next to the old site.
