Murray Hill (Loudoun County, Virginia)

Fort Evans is a Civil War-era rectangular earthen fort located in Leesburg, Virginia. It was the first of three forts constructed in 1861 to protect Leesburg from possible invasion after Virginia seceded from the Union.

The Battle of Ball's Bluff was an early battle of the American Civil War fought in Loudoun County, Virginia, on October 21, 1861, in which Union Army forces under Major General George B. McClellan suffered a humiliating defeat. The operation was planned as a minor reconnaissance across the Potomac to establish whether the Confederates were occupying the strategically important position of Leesburg. A false report of an unguarded Confederate camp encouraged Brigadier General Charles Pomeroy Stone to order a raid, which resulted in a clash with enemy forces. A prominent U.S. Senator in uniform, Colonel Edward Baker, tried to reinforce the Union troops, but failed to ensure that there were enough boats for the river crossings, which were then delayed. Baker was killed, and a newly arrived Confederate unit routed the rest of Stone’s expedition. The Union losses, although modest by later standards, alarmed Congress, which set-up the Joint Committee on the Conduct of the War, a body which would provoke years of bitter political infighting.

Harrison Island is private farming island in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is located between the Potomac River on the Maryland side, and Ball's Bluff Battlefield and National Cemetery on the Virginia side, next to Leesburg, Virginia. The island dominates the view from the heights of Ball's Bluff Battlefield. Among the low, flood-prone islands of the lower Potomac River, Harrison Island is notable for having a permanent private residence visible near the center of the island. There are no bridges to the island. Currently the island is closed to the general public.

Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park and National Cemetery is a battlefield area and a United States National Cemetery, located 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Leesburg, Virginia. The cemetery is the third smallest national cemetery in the United States. Fifty-four Union Army dead from the Battle of Ball's Bluff are interred in 25 graves in the half-acre plot; the identity of all of the interred except for one, James Allen of the 15th Massachusetts, are unknown. Monuments to fallen Confederate Sergeant Clinton Hatcher and Union brigade commander Edward Dickinson Baker are located next to the cemetery, though neither is buried there. While the stone wall-enclosed cemetery itself is managed through the Culpeper National Cemetery and owned by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the balance of the 223-acre (0.90 km2) park is managed through the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.

River Creek is a planned community in Loudoun County, Virginia, located 40 miles (64 km) west of Washington, D.C., and 4 miles (6 km) east of Leesburg at the confluence of the Potomac River and Goose Creek. It was the first gated country club community in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. River Creek is a joint venture project of the Tower Companies, Montgomery Development, and ClubCorp USA, Inc. River Creek welcomed its first residents in 1997.

The Village At Leesburg is a regional outdoor center located in Leesburg, Virginia in the United States. The open-air center features a total of 1.2 million square feet of development encompassing 57 acres.

Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZDC) is an Area Control Center operated by the Federal Aviation Administration and located at Lawson Rd SE, Leesburg, Virginia, United States. The primary responsibility of ZDC is the separation of airplane flights and the expedited sequencing of arrivals and departures along STARs (Standard Terminal Arrival Routes) and SIDs (Standard Instrument Departures) for the Washington-Baltimore Metropolitan Area, the New York Metropolitan Area, and Philadelphia among many other areas. Washington Center is the second busiest (after Atlanta) ARTCC in the United States. Between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017, Washington Center handled 2,554,410 aircraft operations. The Washington ARTCC covers 165,000 square miles (430,000 km2) of airspace that includes airports in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Broad Run is a tributary stream of the Potomac River in Montgomery County, Maryland. The headwaters of the stream originate west of the town of Poolesville, and the creek flows southward for 8.9 miles (14.3 km) to the Potomac River. The Broad Run and its watershed are almost entirely within the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve.

Exeter was a late 18th-century Georgian house near Leesburg, Virginia, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places from 1973 to August 1980, when it was destroyed by fire and subsequently de-listed from the National Register. The house and its dependencies were unusually elaborate for northern Virginia.

The National Conference Center (The National) is a corporate training facility in Leesburg, Virginia. It hosts over 14,000 individuals per month and comprises 265,000 square feet (24,600 m2) of meeting space. The center contains 250 conference rooms, an athletic facility, and 917 guest rooms. The building was built in 1974 as the Xerox Conference Center at a cost of $55 million. It was designed to assist in copier and technology training for company employees. It was designed by Vincent G. Kling & Partners, and is currently managed by NCC EE, LLC. In 1994 Xerox permitted outside organizations to use the grounds. The center was sold to Oxford Capital Partners in 2000. Two years later, the center completed a $29 million renovation, in order to ameliorate its training operations. The current design implements "living learning modules", a series of color-coded buildings, tunnels, a ballroom, and walking trails.

Fort Beauregard was a Civil War-era rectangular earthen fort located on a 430 feet (130 m) promontory above Tuscarora Creek just southeast of Leesburg, Virginia. Built in the winter of 1861–1862 following the Battle of Ball's Bluff, it was one of three forts built by Confederates to defend Leesburg against possible invasion. Fort Beauregard commanded the southern eastern approaches to the town, including the Old Carolina Road and the Alexandria and Winchester Turnpike (present day Virginia State Route 7). The fort may have been only partially constructed, and was never occupied by Confederates in force before Leesburg was evacuated in the spring of 1862. The fort was occupied by Union forces for a brief period in the summer of 1862. The fort was subsequently destroyed, and the exact location remains unknown. The likely site currently sits in the privately owned "Beauregard Estates" neighborhood.

Douglass High School was built in 1941 in what was then a rural area just outside Leesburg, Virginia as the first high school for African-American students in Loudoun County. The school was built on land purchased by the black community and donated to the county. It was the only high school for African-American students until the end of segregation in Loudoun County in 1968.
