Six Bells Halt railway station

Six Bells (Welsh: Chwe Chloch) is an electoral ward and neighbourhood in Abertillery, Blaenau Gwent, Wales. It was originally a village that grew up around the local coal mines. The ward elects two county councillors to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

Six Bells Colliery was a colliery located in Six Bells, Abertillery, Gwent, Wales. On 28 June 1960 it was the site of an underground explosion which killed 45 of the 48 miners working in that part of the mine. It is now the site of the artistically acclaimed Guardian memorial to those events, designed by Sebastian Boyesen; although the memorial primarily commemorates those who died at Six Bells, it is dedicated to all mining communities wherever they may be.

The Guardian is a 20 m (66 ft) tall statue overlooking Parc Arael Griffin, the landscaped former Six Bells Colliery site, in the South Wales mining town of Abertillery, Blaenau Gwent. It was designed and created by artist Sebastien Boyesen.

Abertillery Bluebirds are a Welsh football team based in the town of Abertillery. They currently have a senior side in the Ardal Leagues South East, tier 3 of the Welsh football pyramid. In May 2019 they returned to the Welsh Football League, gaining promotion from the Gwent County League. having last played in the league in the 2013–14 season.

Abertillery (; Welsh: Abertyleri) is a town and a community of the Ebbw Fach valley in the historic county of Monmouthshire, Wales. Following local government reorganisation it became part of the Blaenau Gwent County Borough administrative area. The surrounding landscape borders the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Blaenavon World heritage Site. Formerly a major coal mining centre the Abertillery area was transformed in the 1990s using EU and other funding to return to a greener environment. Situated on the A467 the town is 15 miles (24 km) north of the M4 and 5 miles (8 km) south of the A465 "Heads of the Valleys" trunk road. It is about 25 miles (40 km) by road from Cardiff and 47 miles (76 km) from Bristol. According to the 2011 Census, 4.8% of the ward's 4,416 (212 residents) resident-population can speak, read, and write Welsh. This is below the county's figure of 5.5% of 67,348 (3,705 residents) who can speak, read, and write Welsh.

St Illtyd is a hamlet near Aberbeeg, in southeast Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It is situated on the mountain road between Pontypool and Abertillery in Blaenau Gwent. It rests at about 1200 feet above sea level. The Royal Mail postcode is NP13 2AY. It is located 1.26 miles (2.03 km) south of Abertillery and 10.56 miles (16.99 km) north of Newport. The B4471 runs near to the village. The population of the wider community including nearby Aberbeeg and Llanhilleth is 4,797.

St Illtyd's Church is a deconsecrated church in Llanhilleth, Blaenau Gwent, Wales. A Grade II* listed building, it is the oldest standing building in the county borough.The use of the site for worship dates back to pre-Norman times, with references to the church in a poem written in the 9th or 10th century. The church was probably rebuilt by the Cistercians in the late 12th century. Much of what remains (particularly the saddleback west tower and the barrel roofs) suggests more rebuilding around 1500. Further refurbishment was completed in 1888–91.The church closed for the first time in the 1930s because of subsidence from nearby coalmining. It was repaired and reopened in 1943, before closing again because of open cast mining in 1957. After the open cast operations ended in 1962, the church was found to have deteriorated further and was closed permanently.The church was sold into private hands after closure. It was eventually acquired by Blaenau Gwent Borough Council in 1984 and has been restored to a safe condition. It is open to visitors and is sometimes used as a venue for community events.

Abertillery Learning Community is an all-through school in Abertillery, Wales. The school was formed by merging several schools in 2016. Abertillery Comprehensive School was originally opened in 1986, on a former colliery site. This school was merged with four local primary schools.As of 2020, the school's most recent Estyn inspection was in 2018, with a judgement that the school needs significant improvement.In 2019, the school was undergoing a review of teaching, with some posts likely to be cut; at this point the school had had three headteachers in two years.

Aberbeeg railway station served the village of Aberbeeg in Monmouthshire, Wales. It was the junction where the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company's lines from Newport to Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale diverged.

The small village of Aberbeeg (from Welsh Aber-bîg 'mouth of the river Bîg') lies in both the county borough of Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly County Borough Council in Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It is part of the community of Llanhilleth. The two main tributaries of the Ebbw River, the Ebbw Fawr and Ebbw Fach converge at Aberbeeg.Nearby are the villages of Llanhilleth and Six Bells, where the former colliery allowed the whole community to thrive as part of the South Wales coalfield community. Today, one of the most prominent sights in Aberbeeg area is the grade II* listed St. Illtyd's parish church, which is thought to have been built in the late 5th century, and underwent extensive renovation over the last 200 years. After closing in 1962, the church was privately acquired in 1984. It has now returned to public ownership and is now open to visitors. The friends of St. Illtyd help Blaenau Gwent look after the building. Aberbeeg railway station closed on 30 April 1962. The Ebbw Valley Railway re-opened in February 2008. A bus service between Aberbeeg and Llanhilleth, the nearest railway station on the line, runs every hour.

Brynithel is a village in the Ebbw Valley in Blaenau Gwent. It belongs in the community of Llanhilleth. It is located 1.79 miles (2.88 km) south of Abertillery and 10.09 miles (16.24 km) north of Newport. The B4471 runs near to the village. The River Ebbw flows past the west of the village.
